This is exactly why Cobus is awesome. His best interest is in the sound of his music and the ability for those who look up to him to be able to get good sound quality for their music without breaking the bank. He's a great role model as a person, a drummer, and he's a great inspiration to anyone. As long as Cobus is drumming I will never stop playing the drums.

Nothing against Cobus here. I just thought I would share my thoughts: When an endorser gets something for free, is it really free? Did the craftsmen put in a free day's work? Did the utility companies give away free water and electricity that day at the factory? Of course not. Nothing in life is free. When an endorser gets his shit given to him, it's the customer that pays for it in the cost of the product. Same thing with advertising. The customer ultimately pays for all that glossy shit in the magazines. Take a lesson from the late guitar builder Ed Roman: Build the best shit you can, don't advertise, don't have endorsers. Build your reputation through word of mouth and pass the savings on to your customers. If a good product exists, people will eventually find out about it.

not exactly... some big endorsers gets the products for free... but another endorsers get some discounts in the products... and well... the master endorsers can make they own lines in the products, like signature cymbals, sticks and even drumsets(sorry for my bad english, im chilean, greetings!)

Endorsers are there for the company to generate more revenue through his/her image. Therefore they get more money from people buying the product due to the endorser than they spend giving the endorser free products

It's all opinionated, I play TRX Cymbals and have for two years now. I prefer the TRX sound over Sabian. I don't really agree with his reason for switching being him feeling bad for people not being able to purchase and support TRX Cymbals. TRX has released a new, lower end line of cymbal: CRX Cymbals. Granted, this video came out before TRX launched that line of cymbal. But it's just a little bit odd that he would sacrifice sound; for the occasional disappointment of a fan. Just my thoughts on the subject.

The TRX hi hats, china and bell were amazing! The crashes lacked a bit of volume and presence although still sounded great. The ride was a little too pingy and could have had a bit more wash for Cobus' style. I think my perfect set up would be a mix of the brands

Meinl has a wide variety of cymbals. Their Byzance dry series and sand series are soooo dark and dry, while their Mb20s are more like Zildjian Z3s, and their Soundcasters are like A Customs or Sabian AAX. But I am a Sabian user, so I can't complain they dont have any variety in sound. SABAIN FOR LIFE!

That's nice that he changed, but I preferred the faster and brighter sound of the TRX cymbals. And I think as cobus starts to play more rock songs, I can bet he'll start to switch to faster and brighter crashes. But I do love the ride; sabian did a great job there.

I have been using TRX for about 2 and a half years now and I prefer them over any other companies cymbals hands down. They aren't a huge company which makes for me, using their cymbals special. But when it comes down to it, its all player preference.

I recently switched from Zildjian to Sabian. I had thought about TRX but they weren't in my price range and I was not accepted for an endorsement. Honestly for the money Sabain is the best out there, with them you get what you pay for no bs. I bought an amazing set of AA's and i haven't regretted a thing. They completely blow the A Zildjian's out of the water in quality and projection. Hell even the A custom's don't measure up to the Sabian's in my opinion. Paiste makes great cymbals but just like TRX are too expensive for the good stuff. Cobus made a great choice with Sabian.

IMO, Paiste and Meinl are the two good cymbal companies. Those TRX ones did sound quite nice though. With that said, I totally understand the switch, and if you're getting endorsed by any of the big 4 cymbal makers, you're doing something right, and they all do have stuff to offer. Congrats!

Sabian, in my experience, has always had a very solid, full, and fat sound. I really like it. My first cymbals were Sabian B8. 7 cymbals ran me 329 dollars on Amazon.com. Sabian really is an awesome brand, and one with quality in the forefront of its mission. I am looking into Stagg cymbals at the moment though... A sound that I love at a relatively low price. Cheaper than Meinl and TRX, for sure. Cobus, I think that this is awesome!

I have to agree, im currently using Meinl HCS cymbals and they dont sound as good as Sabian, Sabian can give you a nice crashy sound without the bass drum but Meinl will give will give you a......ermm~ less crashy sound if you were to compare by hitting both cymbals lightly, Meinl crashes sometimes sounds like gongs when you hit it lightly.

Cobus, could you make a drum setup video of your kit, and maybe a recommended brand for us to buy? Right now it's 9 days away from my birthday, and I have NO CLUE on what I should get. I kept thinking about new cymbals, after having my 7 year old Carlos brand (they aren't famous, but they sound great :) bashed for the last years. But I also need one more tom, and its supposed to be the smallest of the four. Should i get new cymbals, or a new tom and save up for cymbals? HELP!

sabian is zildjians brother, and alot of the sabians sound similar to zildjian. aa/aax = a/a custom, hh/hhx = k/k custom, apx =z/z custom/z3 etc..

Sabians are the best. They have the best brass in their cymbals, they have a wider variety of sounds, and they look SUPER nice as long as you take care of them. My Zildjians faded in sound and shine as I kept them and I polished them religiously. And Meinls are just way too loud and high pitched and punchy, can't stand them. With the exception of my vintage Zildjian ride (from the 70's when they were great), I use all AAX Darks. Nice choice bro!

It's the same concept as the cymbals. If someone is interested in Sabian and can't afford it, then he can recommend the xs20, or the b8. DW and PDP are the same company, pdp is just a name they use for their kits that are manufactured in a mass production, when the higher DW kits are made to order. So if someone likes his kit, he can recommend a PDP kit to get them started with a DW. By the way, he does own a PDP Concept kit.

To me, it sounds like you're throwing TRX under the bus a bit. They are NOT more expensive. It's not fair to them because some viewers of this video might now have a bad taste in their mouth about TRX. If you check out an average TRX crash and compare it to a similar crash made by Sabian or Zildjian, you will find a very comparable price. Yeah, if you want to go buy crap cymbals, of course you can get some Sabian B8s, but that doesn't mean GOOD Sabian cymbals are cheaper than GOOD TRX cymbals.
