I was given this recipe 50 years ago. No Pepsi isn't as strong as Coke. I wouldn't suggest subbing Pepsi. Coke is stronger and more chocolate taste. It is a delicious cake. Coco cola is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks Oh BTW, Mississippi Mud Cake is a sheet cake and has marshmallows in it or icing, again Delicious too. Tupperware has a plastic shifter at least they use to. Call them or look on line. Good Luck

That's good to know, Linda, about the Pepsi. I mean, I know Pepsi. My family is originally from near New Bern where Pepsi was invented, but I didn't know it wouldn't work fine in this cake. I'm glad you've tried so I don't have to!

Yes! I do have a similar cooked icing recipe for pouring over a yellow sheet cake. The recipe I have for that also incorporates crushed pecans. YUM! 😋

The cake looks great. The buttermilk tip is wonderful, never knew that. Kind of like sourdough bread starter. Gonna try this when I get low on buttermilk. Also gonna try putting vanilla in a brandy or fireball bottle.

Yes, it's exactly like a sourdough bread starter. It all has to do with the live cultures being propagated from one batch to the next. Also, I'll be interested in hearing how your vanilla comes out. Give it a few months before it's ready and then come back and let me know how it is!

You did an EXCELLENT job, but NEVER...NEVER...NEVER use metal scraping against metal while cooking. Use a wooden spoon or a rubber spatula. Metal against metal while cooking can scrape off tiny parts of shavings into your food...something you don’t want. Over time, this can lead to Colon Cancer studies have shown. That’s why it’s SAFER to use wood or plastic when cooking with pans, pots or skillets. You did a good job on the cake, though. 😁👍

Thank you for the advice, Jerry! I appreciate your concern. I cook with cast iron most of the time so there's no issue using metal utensils. I'll keep that in mind about baking pans, though. 🙏 Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!

That's my kind of cake, no layers! At first when you said sift the sugar, I was thinking why bother its gonna dissolve, I would've dumped it in pot! If you want coke with real sugar buy glass bottle coke, it's what coke calls Mexican, it's real sugar, can is or was high fructose...I would use can because of $. I've been collecting old kitchen items for yrs. Go to 2nd hand stores, tag sales, flea markets for a sifter. I collect items that are useful to me when, I lose power...hand crank mixer, whisks etc. I wanted get rid of metal loaf pans get glass, I cleaned my cabinet out, I have 6 didnt realize it, but at 2.00 apiece cant buy metal one for that price....

That's a great idea about looking for a sifter at flea markets or 2nd hand stores! Also, we definitely like Mexican Cokes. They do still have the sugar in them. 😋 Seem like I saw that you can buy them by the case at our local Sam's Club. Like you, though, I stick to the cans because they're cheaper.

They are both delicious to me! I should say that Pepsi is my favorite since it was invented not too far from me, but I just love Coke and Pepsi! 😁

Haha I'm sorry about that. I have a few spatulas in different sizes, but sometimes I don't have another one handy, especially if I've been doing a lot of cooking already and they are in the sink or other dishes!

@OldTimeKnowledge Жыл бұрын
You might be able to try a milk substitute, but buttermilk does provide a very specific taste.
