My Piper was just precious, loving and snuggly chum. For 17 years she was always their waiting for us to come home. Very loyal to the whole family. Lost her 2 weeks ago. Yes she had eye problems and went deaf the last year of her life. Miss her so much, she was a teddy bear. Not destructive, not a chewer, just a chilled soul.

Just lost my 12 year old Lhasa Aspo today to enlarged heart leading to congestive heart failure. Yes, this video explains them well, but they are very smart and very lovable with the family. He was a adopted rescued dog from Petsmart and walked a many mile with me while exercising for my diabetes. We walked 4 miles a day when weather permitted. However; when he was diagnosed the walks with him were set for much shorter or not at all. But he loved his walks. Very sad day, I will miss him very much with the time I have left myself. 😢

I had a Lhasa Apso and at around 6 he started to develop yeast infection in his ears and skin, later it progressed into bacterial infections, eye ulcer, mucous in the eye. I spent so much money trying to cure him for years. I eventually had to put him down as the issues got worse and his quality of life wasn't there. He even developed black coloured skin between his legs and chest. Other than that he was truly an amazing dog with an amazing temperament. He was around 13-15 years old. He never had separation anxiety and never barked. He was a very smart dog as well. He like everyone and all dogs.

I have a rescue Lhasa and he is the best thing ever, so funny, clever and so bonded to us, no separation anxiety, but pretty much spot on. Only issue is he looks very cute, but will bite strangers if they try to touch him or us if we do something that frightens him.

I have a 15 year old male, 2nd Lhasa. My first male was more aloof then my current dog ever has been. I wouldn’t agree that they bark excessively, neither of mine have and my current dog has become very “quiet” since he’s gotten older. What else? Yes, stubborn, independent is true. “Spirited” is a great word for it. To train, using positive reinforcement certainly is the best method. Very in tune to tone of voice and owner’s attitude and current emotional state. Current one has had his nervous, wary moments at times but he’s generally very warm towards strangers unless he doesn’t feel a good vibe towards them. Often times, my dog will prefer any company we may have present and focus on them and forget I’m around. Lol

I have a 9 month old Lhasa. She is the cutest little dog I have ever seen. Her long body and neck are adorable because she is short and fluffy. She has a biting problem only with the family and tends to want to bite our hands when she gets over excited and playful. She is incredibly smart and it’s interesting to see her use her paws to do things. We learned from our first dog not to give her food while we are eating so she does not beg for food while we eat or even when we are preparing her food, and she is very patient. She loves playing outside and doesn’t stop running in the backyard until she’s too tired. She does get very upset when we leave the house and clearly has separation anxiety. She mainly displays a dominant and tough attitude, but turns into a timid little baby when we have to leave the house. She is so adorable it is hard to leave her alone. Our first dog was lazy, very sweet, and easy going, so adjusting to our Lhasa was an adjustment. Things have gotten progressively better over the past 6 months that we have had her. I wouldn’t recommend for first time dog owners, but our Lhasa is such a beautiful girl and there is never a dull moment with her. She gets lots of love and attention

Love my funny stubborn Lhasa, he is 11 now and i have never had a more loyal dog in my life, but he is definitely my companion, he follows me everywhere but my husband can go where he pleases alone lol, he has had Dermatitis all his life which is easier to control and treat when you keep his coat short. He has never had separation anxiety and i think he quite likes it when we all go out all he does then is sleeps with his legs in the air lol. He is amazing with our autistic grandson, it will break my heart when the inevitable time comes, he is the funniest little dog ever and just so cute, oh and someone forgot to tell him he is only short he thinks he is 10 foot tall

I have a 3 month old Apso. He literally follows me everywhere, when he sleeps and I get up he wakes up and follows me. Is that okay? He stays in front of the bathroom and guards the door when I bath, he barks when he doesn’t see me and looks for me until he finds me. He loves attention. Do I need to train him to stop?

I love my Lhasa Apso! I enjoyed the video and found it to be mostly correct. My Lhasa doesn't mind being left alone and very rarely barks. If I had to say which was the biggest con it would be the stubbornness of the breed. Mine is so stubborn. Apart from that he is the best!
@paddypaddy72763 жыл бұрын
A few things I disagree with: Perfect dog for me as a first time owner. No separation anxiety at all and does fine several hours alone. Not a guard dog - she barks at noise but loves all people once introduced including all strangers. Great with kids. Only does well with smaller dogs. Doesn’t get bored or destroy things. Only gets upset if shut up in a room alone. If left to roam freely does perfectly fine alone. Mine is 10 years old and am just beginning to notice cloudiness of the eyes. Otherwise has been very healthy her whole life. I agree doesn’t require much exercise and requires a lot of grooming. Not the most intelligent breed but incredibly sweet temperament. Shrill bark but only when startled, someone is at the door or excited about getting a treat, otherwise silent. No shedding but coat grows quickly and ears can get matted if not combed often. Loves just sitting on your lap and going on walks. Best dog ever!!!

I have a lhasa apso and i would literally die if anything were to happen to her. She is quite lazy and needy when it comes to attention, always loving being either next to someone or on their lap asking for continuous pets. She is also very stubborn and bossy, and will make her needs clear - when she wants to eat or pee, she ll bark at one of us until she gets what she wants. She is a total princess and is very spoiled, but that's cause none of us can resist how cute she is. She can be very bossy and subborn, yes, but she also clearly loves us so so much and hates being appart from us. The whole princess façade drops when one of us gets home, and she shows such genine and pure happiness to see us again, it really makes it clear how we mean the entire world to her. She means the entire world to us, too. Anyways, anyone considering getting a lhasa - they shed no fur whatsoever even though they are so fluffy and cute; they dont bark most of the time, only when they are socializing with you. Otherwise they are very quiet; they adore attention and pets and cuddling, and are also pretty patient and will make it clear when they arent enjoying something you are doing to them. If needed, they ll growl, but only very rarely actually bite, and if so, they will instantly calm down and appologize to you with licking; they have a lot of personality, and even though they know they arent the alpha of the household, they ll definitely act like they are royalty most of the time. It's very hard to deny the temptation to spoil them, considering how fluffy and cuddly and soft and smol they are. Again, me and my family love my lhasa with all our hearts and we will be devastated when the day comes when she has to leave us :(

@@allstargaming8135 ours doesn't. She only barks when she is either asking for something or when she hears other dogs bark. But then, we only need to tell her to stop, and she stops. Our lhasa spends most of her time asleep or laying around anyway. She doesn't do much beyond that.

As already pointed out, Lhasas can definitely NOT have separation anxiety. Had mine since a puppy and he is about 3.5yrs old now, and able to be left in his crate for hours on end just sleeping. Had to leave him alone since a pup due to work so he probably got used to it? As a first time pet owner I think any pet is gonna have it's issues. For a dog, these are about as much work as I'd expect and not as much as other due to the less exercise needed. So really if this is your first dog nothing wrong with going Lhasa. Maybe try out fostering a pet first. But nothing compares to how you feel about your puppum after raising them from a baby.

I had a dog like this. I find it strange that anyone judges an animal based on it's breed. Sure, it helps for if they shed or not, but aside from that.. dogs are like people. Each dog is so unique and different. You don't say which friends to have based on their breed. I had a dog like this and he NEVER barked. No, he wasn't beaten or suffered trauma. Dude just didn't bark much. Don't just look at breeds. Get to know the dog you're having first. Hyper type or nappy type. Shedding or not. How much food will they require. Are you around people that will judge it based on it's breed. That sort of thing. Don't put a dog through the negativity of what people say based on breed. It's bad for their mental health. Understand that dogs can be assholes too. Just know breed has not much to deal with things.

These dogs are very aloof in the recap like an independent, so they are not prone to separation anxiety, and they aren’t overly affectionate either. They are wary of strangers. My Lhasa apso is 16 years old. She has been great an alarming me of danger in the house, but she’s not want to come and greet me at the door when I get home it’s more about okay you’re home awesome give me food, she have a moments, very brief moments of affection but it’s a rarity. Yes, they are very stubborn and I need a strong owner because I can be very headstrong. They’re not great around children but I think they can be a first time dog for people. My shih tzu on the other hand though, they are half Lhasa apso cross Pekinese, she is very affectionate. She greets me at the door. She is not on a good inside guard dog, but she is also a very good companion. She sleeps beside me and she wants to be with me each and every day she greets me at the door want to come home. Very excited. She really points out the difference between a Lhasa apso and shih tzu but again they can be a bit stubborn and they’re not good for children. I’m very aware of strangers they’re just a little less aloof. I’m sorry I don’t know where you got your information from one of those pictures was a silky terrier not a Lhasa apso. But I will do some more research and actually talk to owners of Lhasa apso, so really find the true nature of one.

I disagree,my lhasas have all craved affection and attention. Two were great with kids,1 wasnt because a kid kicked her,she wasnt nasty to kids just never trusted them upon 1st meeting. They are good alarm dogs. I love this breed and i will continue to adopt this breed. What people are mistaking is traits for personality. Just like us,everyone is different.
