This video was originally scheduled to release on the 9th of November just before Armistice day, but due to a high work load and breaking my arm I've had to release it later so forgive me for saying Armistice day is next week as it was at the time of recording. I also mention Activision as the developer when clearly they are the publishers, I would correct this if it wasn't for my broken arm but I'm just going to have to leave it. The whole point of the video is to highlight how our history is being hijacked to suit a particular narrative and in my opinion all it does is sow division. I personally agree totally with Morgan Freemans comments at the beginning of the video.

So if I base a fictional story around real historical events and use historical people to inspire some of my characters, then its a disgrace if I don't "take the opportunity" to retell the exact same sequence of events? What if I dont want to take the opportunity? What if I want something else to happen? Is Tom Clancy a "disgrace" for using the cold war as setting for his own stories? Is he spitting on the graves of the real soldiers and the real spies? There's nothing to stop you or anyone from studying the actual history of WW2, I encourage it, good on you mate, but why sh*t on VIDEOGAME for not being a documentary? Go watch a documentary🙄 And btw I also agree with morgan freeman.

It’s a gem for sure, though I relatively recently learned they dramatized at least one thing: Blithe. He was portrayed as a coward, in the Carentan episode; the fella who was blind, but got better after speaking with Winters. The episode ends with him taking point on a patrol, getting shot in the neck, and later lying on a hospital bed. The end credits state that he died in the successive years due to that wound, but he didn’t. He actually re-upped and was dropped into Korea. Winters himself cleared the record in his interviews with the senator. Great series, but they didn’t do right by everyone.

We are reaching the point where before stories in games about, as an example, the Harlem hell fighters (an all black unit in WW1) was actually interesting and different. It has now gotten to the point where just depicting what actually happened is more controversial to a minority of people but heavily desired by most people. Most people that fought and died in WW1/WW2 were Asian or white people. Many units like the code talkers or the red tails were huge stories and really awesome ones at that. WW2 games haven’t depicted WW2 in years. BFV did do a campaign story from a Germans perspective and it was ridiculously interesting to see. COD WAW did a story of a Russian fighting to Berlin. That was interesting. I’d like to see a Japanese or Italian side story too. But let’s be real, this is them making political propaganda. So it’s not even about what people want.

They'd probably never make a movie or game based off the black or Indian SS divisions because the Germans always need to be portrayed as white even if they were 99.99% white. Allies on the other hand being that same percentage, but they have to change around the races and sexes for everything to make non-whites and women seem like the were the saviors of these wars. It's sickening
@tonyjones1560
@tonyjones1560 2 жыл бұрын
IJS, my great-grandfather was a Harlem Hellfighter during WWI. My grandfather was a POW camp guard during WWII. Joachim Piper's SS men committed another massacre besides Malmedy, the Wereth 11, all these soldiers were black; they surrendered when the SS told them they'd level Wereth and slaughter the townspeople otherwise. There was a unit of black GIs at D-Day that raised barrage balloons over the beach (at Omaha, I think) that kept a badly decimated Luftwaffe from strafing the landing US troops. Merrill's Marauders (the forerunners of the US Army Rangers, they wear the MM unit patch as their regimental crest today) recognized that black supply troops kept them alive in the field and would take them to "whites only" spots, buy the beer and dare anyone to complain. No one did...it was a GREAT way to get shot. I've read that there was at least one black Wehrmacht soldier killed at Stalingrad and several others during the final defense of Berlin from the Red Army. The bravery of black soldiers in the "great wars" has been, mildly, under-publicized. That said...I agree with this video. There's no reason to "make shyt up." The truth is far more interesting...
@VintageWarfare
@VintageWarfare 2 жыл бұрын
@@tonyjones1560 that’s kind of the point. I’m not taking away from contributions made by black men in WW2. In fact they had wild success stories. But let’s be honest from a historical perspective. That was 0.5% or who fought and died. Many astounding feats were achieved by many people. They have been published in every video game for the last god knows, 3 battlefields? 2 WW2 themed CODs? That’s 5 games over the span of half a decade that focused on those stories. There are stories other than those that aren’t talked about, namely, the Japanese, Finnish, Italians, I could go on. The problem is there is a very clear revisionist focus here. Battlefield 1 was the only game to actually cover an all black unit accurately and with class that really gave respect to the Harlem hell fighters. BFV did one on a free French black unit that was pretty good. But other than that, it’s just made up bullshit. Hell even BFV completely revised a story in which all the commandos involved died, and replaced them with a Norwegian girl and her mother. People need to relax when it comes to thinking speaking from an obvious historical standpoint is racist or sexist. It’s not at all.
@tonyjones1560
@tonyjones1560 2 жыл бұрын
@@VintageWarfare I agree that twisting history to fit an agenda is 1000% a bad thing. I personally think it's frightening on several levels. Staying on topic, though, in the USA the valor of black soldiers in under fire has been too often been downplayed or covered up, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. They might have been a small percentage of the frontline combat troops but even these men often didn't get their due. Many years ago, an internal US government study of Medal of Honor recipients concluded that many worthy black military men didn't get The Medal because they were black. One particular former officer received the medal for his actions in Italy decades earlier; he was nearly 90 and dying of cancer. My Hellfighter "Grand Al" was buried with his "doughboy" helmet and his Croix de Guerre when he passed away in the early 1970s. The Hellfighters were "seconded" to the French because American commanders thought they were too skittish, stupid and unruly to function effectively in combat. All that said... it's a bad thing for anyone to be allowed to think that a video game is historically accurate. Being, myself, the last of 5 generations of veterans and one of two to have carried a rifle on a front line IMO, the least we owe these men and women is the truth... regardless of the context (video game, movie... even history textbook).

Isn't the way equality is used now, universalism and pacifism too, to undermine male and female relationships by setting the sexes against each other because the West needs to be more progressive i.e regressive. This is because they see unequal outcomes and want that corrected with diversity qoutas, green new deal and feminist sexual revolution "attitude" to transplant beliefs of bodily autonomy, promiscuity, pleasure and convenience onto all people to undermine the family unit. It happens all the time, and got Battlefield into trouble a few years ago for the same reason. They take true events/wars, and then just throw a young girl into it and craft their own narrative, or whatever the hell they feel like doing this Monday. I personally don't agree with the 'simply' racial/sex swap for real-life characters at all. The character needs to be the 100% same as whatever he was when he was alive. I don't tend to like whitewashing or blackwashing of film, but more so if it's based on real-life. It also doesn't make any sense if like 99% of heroes in WWII were white men, then you just turn them into black men and women, etc., given how statistically wrong that is -- very simple maths. That's history, that's the West, that's war. Nothing anybody can do about that. If you want a story set around lots of women being forced into war, then they should make a lovely little game about the slave-state/Communist police state of North Korea, they have lots of female robots in their factories and frontline. If you want freedom and truth -- in the West -- then you should stick to reality: white men were at the frontline, and pretty much nobody else (unless you were in the East, then the Indians of British India were fighters in WWII, among other cases). Naturally, Europe is 90% white, and 90% of everybody in war is male, so you do the maths on that one. We also have enough leaked missions and public missions and reports from WWII and almost every other war that you can easily create an accurate game based on real events/war without having to ruin it at the level of narrative/story/history.

The Brazilians had white and black soldiers fighting alongside and treating each other as equals, much to the American troops surprise, which helped instigate the same feelings on American soldiers. To this day the brazilian troops are still remembered in Italy in annual ceremonies due to how kind brazilian troops were to the local population, who faced starvation and were sometimes sneakingly assisted by the troops who sometimes sacrificed their own rations. In fact, even the Germans themselves buried 3 FEB soldiers in graves marked as "Three Brazilian Heroes" after they died in a last stand that lasted as long as their ammunition did. The amount of wonderful stories that happened during WWII and are just waiting to be told is insane, yet these corporations will only disgrace the memory of those who died fighting barbarity.

I've read a few great comments on the "Everything Wrong With CoD Vanguard" video by Dartigan, let me paste the comments here, they describe a scene when German soldiers capture the main characters: SpringHeeledJack of the Gurdians: The history in this game is beyond insulting, but the premise of this game alone makes no sense as a nazi policy at the time of the time was to kill all allied special forces found within occupied territory, they would be all executed during the scene the SS Officer captured them and found none of them had a name they could ransom or use for a propaganda victory. Reply: GentlemenZay: Yeah that was something that got me from the moment they got captured. Berlin is literally burning down around them and the Red Army is barely being slowed down the by mostly children and elderly conscripts that make up the bulk of the surviving German military at this point but for some reason main bad guy and his underlings feel it’s important to hang around and interrogate some random Special Forces team instead of just shooting them and fleeing the city. Reply: Alin Bobaru Or use them as bargaining chips to get better terms when they surrender to the Americans which would be way better than surrendering to the Red Army. Reply: Helmut Kogelberger Especially as the smart ass leader of the outfit could not resist boasting with his rudimentary knowledge of the German language and trying to humiliate the SS officer in front of his subordinates. This would have speeded up their demise. Note from a retired career officer: When you are captured by the enemy try to be humble and cooperative. You might live to see the end of the war.

I’m all for freedom of speech and creative liberty, but there is a right and a wrong way to handle stories that construct the cultural values our societies have today.

First two minutes in and; 'here-here!'. Growing up I had several friends from Pakistan, a friend from the Philipines, a couple of friend from Nigeria, friends from poland, Ireland and then the rest were english lads. We never once even considered each others skin colour, we mostly cared that each of us was cool and kind and liked pokemon. Or when I got older, Gears of War!!! This modern thing where people are being taught to see skin first is frustrating because I think we were close to martin luther kings dream of being judged by the content of our character, for me and my friends - we were there. But these modern people want to thrust us back to the dark ages. So annoying! and frustrating.

The actual past didn't happen if you can convince a bunch of people including the "loudest" current generation to accept their netflix and videogame fictional narratives (whic are precisely calculated) as truth and historical fact.

Mao tried to remove 3,000 years of history back in the 1950s. He said that it was to ensure that the Chinese people did not remember the past; otherwise, they might be tempted to revolt. You cannot fight for what you do not remember. Likewise, the Nazis either completely re-wrote German history or massively corrupted real Germanic/European history, coupled with bringing back pre-Roman Germanic insanity (such as 'collective guilt' for entire families for the crime of one family member, akin to what horrible crime bosses do in Latin America, or what the Japanese was known for in WWII, to some degree). Orwell also wrote something clear on that in 1984: 'Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.' We already see that right now in the far-West. Everybody does what the Party says, Laws are created based on the Party and its core followers, and the most extreme voices, and there is no clear mention of the past or future outside of the context of 'the Party is always right', just as there is no individuality or freedom, only your allyship to the Party and fellow supporters, lest you risk your status and likelihood. Morality is from the Law, and the Law is from the Party. Pure collectivism. Nothing else exists for these people, no God, no religion, no family, no social clubs, no personal values, just the Party and man-made system. This is clearly the case with things like 'cancel culture' and the whole 'woke' movement. It already exists as we speak in the extreme in China, North Korea, Venezuela, and Russia to some degree, along with Sweden, France, Scotland, and elsewhere to lesser degrees. Not to mention the other Communist-like stats right now, such as Laos, Cuba, and Vietnam, and some African and Latin American states. Of course, many Middle Eastern states are a bit like this, but in the context of Islam. It's worth noting that a number of countries have major Communist arms of their governments or just very popular elements (such as Nepal, Sweden, and Japan), along with a number of Communist organisations, such as BLM (self-declared), Antifa, Internationalism, World Revolution, Internationalist Communist Party (Italy), and Communist Workers Organisation. (Not to mention the fact that many studies have proven extreme liberal-bias across all of the news outlets and social media since 2011 or so. If you look at film, you can see clear narrative bias, anyway, and it's been that way for years. Now, it's finally hitting video games, board games, and otherwise. In 5 years, everything will be biased, corrupt, woke, post-modernist, feminist, socialist, and so on. Absolute nothing will be left untouched. They already got their hands on sports such as F1 and NFL, and now even entire religions and major charities have been corrupted by CRT, etc., such as the Catholic Church and the Salvation Army, as both recently reported that 'they are racist. White people are racist. Christianity is racist'.)

Something I've never understood. Why do a WW2 game if you're not going to respect the event and keep it accurate? Unless you clearly state that it's an alternative history then why rewrite things? Battlefield 5 did the same with Norwegian commandos being replaced with a little girl on raid to destroy a hydroelectric power plant . That would have been a great opportunity to shine a light on the free Norwegian forces war effort but instead it's rewritten. I've got no problem with a diverse group of characters & stories as long as they actually existed, it's not like WW2 is lacking in diversity anyway, 2 million Indians served, over a million African soldiers, Soviet female fighter aces & snipers. So many people were involved in WW2 that there's millions of stories both told & untold. So much incredible drama there to chose from for video games, films, books etc, it doesn't need to be rewritten if it's already epic. The Paratroopers being too scared to continue is an absolute farce as well, all British Airborne units were volunteers, 6th Airborne had been training in the UK for years eagerly waiting for action. They were beyond motivated men, seen as the cream of the crop, they wouldn't suddenly become cowards upon dropping in. If you don't want to respect the event and the people involved, don't make your game based around it.

My grandfather served under Col Franco in Spain during the civil war, on land, on sea and under it. He was on-board a heavy cruiser when they were ordered to shell civilian targets, on an undocumented submarine that his description perfectly matches a u-boat. He was almost executed for refusing to execute prisoners of war that were basically pulled out of their houses and put up against the wall for speaking against the dictatorship. He watched his friend get executed for falling asleep guarding an impenetrable munitions bunker that was surrounded by troops and protected by pillboxes and AA batteries. On occasion he did have to follow orders that he didn't agree with, otherwise he not only forfeited his life but his families lives too. There are so many absolutely horrific stories from his time in the military that would make you feel physically sick. People often forget that those on the other side had a story too. Failing your objective or disobedience under a dictator often meant your family would be put up against the wall too.. It makes it all the more amazing when he decided to hollow out underneath the cattle shed, and begin smuggling people into France. The well dressed storm troopers wouldn't go near animal feces in their shiny boots. He made it far enough up the ranks to actually serve directly under Franco and have access to the lists of people who were to be executed for whatever reason the regime came up with that day. One of them was his own brother, who he personally took to the French border, and then cut ties never to see him again. Soldiers are usually proud of their service. My grandfather emigrated to the UK before Francos regime fell, only returning home to Spain later to burn his uniform, destroy his medals and commendations, bury his side arm and sell his home. Even though we have family over there, he will never return to Spain. Fighting for freedom is a lot easier than fighting for something you don't agree with, but you and your loved ones will die if you don't.

Great intro. I know you are a fan of the French, so I'll refer to a conversation I had with a Parisian professor. He was bemoaning the fact that term racial had re-entered the French discourse as it was seen as a backward view of the world and something that had long been resolved in France. Some might be shocked at this because of "the racial divide" in Paris. Well to that, another Parisian friend of mine, who is a POC, commented that Paris' issues are not racial, they are based on ideology (religion) and economic imbalance. Constantly having to address this backward American discourse is extremely tiresome and not reflective of the rest of the world. America has its problems, as does every country, I just wish they would stop constantly trying to export them. Morgan Freeman is on point with his views.
