Just got back from a camping trip in the cascades that included going up and down fire roads and forest service roads up to an old Fire Lookout station in my 2015 Xterra. Roads were dusty as hell. Two days after getting back home I get the P0448 code. I'm gonna try this technique first. Makes a lot of sense considering what I put the xterra through.

This is a vent valve, purge valve is located above/front your engine block

If you don't fix this, your car will not pass an emissions test.

@@marty9368 wrong! the smog tech will put in there scanner to see if any codes were erased. They SES light my be off on the dash but not on the scanner. Trust me!

I fix in my truck I I change it the purge valve and canister and vent valve check engine didn’t go away I ruan 2000 miles already

My canister gets all wet every time if rains and the check engine light comes on. Once it dries out (usually about 200 miles with no rain) the light goes off. Its pretty annoying though. Any one else have this problem? 2017 Frontier.

I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with the same code p0448 had mechanic change control vent valve but still coming up spoke with Nissan parts dealer they said I might have to change the entire engine harness really not sure what to do next should this work?

I was told the canister on my 2013 Nissan Altima is located under the Gas tank and they wanted to charge me $634 including 4 labor hours. Any alternative suggestions?

lots of washers can out when I uninstalled the TANK line. Where that little white clip was on the canister. Do you remember how to reinstall the washers? There was a plastic blue one, a black rubber one, a plastic washer, and a green rubber one.

Thomas Pham, I had the same thing happen to me when i did mine. Im not exactly sure if i put them in right and i don't remember where i put them, sorry. I hope you already fixed yours and didn't have any problems.

Yes, I found out the sequence again. Green rubber washer ( a plastic washer (mine was clear) Black rubber washer Plastic blue washer White Clip Canister I got the info from one of my friends who is a master mechanic. My CEL light hasn't been on for about 20k.

I also didn't clean the unit out. I tried it, but it still felt denser than a new unit. I replaced the entire system, including the vent control valve.

Hey i have a 2009 Maxima when I pump gas it won’t continue pumping just keeps stopping and gas spills out

Nissan has a service bulletin for that problem, reference# NTB17-030a. It may apply to your vehicle

so i got the p0448 code for this issue with the check engine light. if i continue to drive the vehicle will it cause any more harm to the rest of the vehicle till i can get it fixed?? thanks

Don't worry, it's just for anti-pollution, it means that some of the vapors formed in the gas tank might be released a bit in the atmosphere and your canister is not working optimal. My lawnmower pollutes more than that.

I do need to do this but my 2011 Xterra has 33” mud boggers on it so it’ll be a tougher job to get mine out because I have to pull off the rear driver quarter panel to access it which means jacking it up and removing the tire etc. i couldnt really find much on if it was dangerous to the vehicles overall air flow operation but I appreciate your info!

To clear the codes, I would always disconnect the battery for 5 minutes.

you can do the same with a reader but if the problem isn't fixed, the code will come back

I got p0442 after replacing my solenoid on my r51.

P0442 is for a small evap leak, a leak in that system. I would double check that the o-ring didn't get pinched.

Is it a complicated repair? Where does it rate from 1 to 10?

That’s not a fix, just a maintenance repair. To fix it you have to prevent dirt from entering in the first place.
