On September 18, 2023, police were dispatched to an escaped pit bull in La Crosse, WI that had residents fearing its aggressive behavior, causing chaos in the neighborhood. Officers located the pit bull on the hood of a van, displaying hostility. While the owner attempted to leash the dog, it unexpectedly charged at one of the officers.

Not only did she admitt that the dog was about to be put down, because of it's aggressive nature, but also that the dog attacked others previously AND that the drugged the dog with an amount diphenhydramin, more than 10 times the reckomended amount for an animal. (asumeing she gave him human benadryl - which genrelly is 30mg and dogs are reckomended 1mg/10kg) She is yapping a lot for doing nothing -that is the point. She can't control her animal, she caused the issue in the first place, and demanded the police to do her job. If that were my dog, he'd not be leaving the house without a muzzle, not even in the garden. So yes "reckomending a lot for doing jack shit" is an appropriate response to such an irresonsible dog ownder. Note: I do not blame teh dog, it may have behavioral issues not addressed, but imageing haveing been given a drug which is known to cause coordination issues within dogs as well as causeing weariness. Both are instances which dogs gnerally react strongly to by trying to fight the symptoms, which combiened with an external threat will cause much more issues than would have that dog been sober.

Animal control is typically a county unit, these are city cops. There may be animal control but it's not within their department. Unless they share dispatchers with the county units (larger counties typically do this, but not all), there's no direct line they have with county units at all, let alone animal control. Animal control is likely a sheriff unit.

This lady is the exception rather than the norm in Wisconsin on dog ownership however she is definitely not playing with a full deck at the time and should have been charged with obstruction of justice at the minimum. 100% got a pit bull in 2021 and by the end of 2022 he had done 3 attacks on my family, 2 resulting in them being hospitalized. We had him since a puppy and he was treated very well yet it seemed every month there was another completely unsolicited attack. The tail end was him putting my father in the hospital requiring a dozen stitches because my sister screamed a foot away from him. There was blood everywhere, it was horrific. She said she is taking the dog in for behavioral euthanasia the next day. If you have never had to do that it's not an easy process. Most vets want owners to try training and a series of medications before they'll put the dog down. Most owners also need to come to terms with killing their pets. She is doing the right thing by scheduling the BE. The cops should stop being pussies and get the dog under control. It's a danger to society. It should be dragged into the nearest shelter and put down after going after the cop. Or just shot to begin with.
