In this episode of unreal engine thunder and lighting system, I am going to explore the dynamics of the lightning. Specifically, how to increase the light total light intensity temporarily to mimic a realistic lightning effect. Here we will do that by dynamically changing exposure in post process settings. The reason not to add an actual light here is, because increasing the intensity of any existing light or adding a light temporarily is not always an option as in some levels we may use baked/static lights. Also, here will look into how to dynamically change the location of the lightning as well.

I'm looking to just have the lightning flash effect. I'm slightly confused on what nodes you used here. Is it just from post process?

you can create a lesson on creating a location map or an open world, not a minimap and not a landscape, but as in all games there is a location map with labels and where the character is located

Thanks for the tutorial it was really helpful, I was wondering though how to spawn the lightning strikes in a specific area instead of using the player location?

glad to help. you can change set the location of the lighting actor to the area you need just before the lighting strikes. will need to do some modifications to the code, but it should be simple
