Copywrite: HBO
The Sopranos
Season 3 - Episode 12: Amour Fou.
In this scene, Parisi [in one of his best scenes] threatens Trillo to never contact Tony ever again or...you get the idea.
"Here's some standard operating procedure. Stay the F*ck away from Tony Soprano..shut the f*ck up, and listen; it's over, capisce? Over and done. You call, or go anywhere near him, or his family, and they'll be scraping your nipples off these fine leather seats. And here's the point to remember: My face is the last one you'll see, not Tony's. Do we understand each other? It won't be cinematic."
PAT LAID IT DOWN!

This is what pushed her over the edge though. You see it after he gets out. She's completely crushed. It's like the toxic relationship with tony was what was keeping her alive, despite all the danger with it. When it was ended so coldly she couldn't take it.

Thats the point, most gangsters wear baggy clothes and are tatted up. People see them and they are scared to even be in the same sidewalk. Now these guys, they look like regular Joes, nothing flashy. Yet they can kill you with the most calm faces, you probably wouldn't see it coming.

Sociopaths are basically incapable of forming normal, healthy human relationships with others. They seek out other damaged people in order to fulfill their shallowest needs, and never go beyond that. Why do you think these guys all have a wife, at least one cheap slut on the side and unlimited hookers for a snack? Tony smelled crazy on Gloria and his dick led the way. I've met a ton of the actors on this show. A large portion of them are from Staten Island which is where I happened to be born and raised. Living in Hells Kitchen now but I met them all before I made the move to Manhattan. Patsy, Eugene, Feech, Uncle Pat, Jason Parisi, Bobby, and more. Not to mention about 30-40 actual notable mobsters including Sammy the Bull, Frank Cali, Frank DeCicco, Castellano, Anthony Graziano, Gregory Scarpa and way more. Didn't meet any of the real mobsters but grew up with and was friends with a few 3rd generation Persicos, Gallos, Langellas, and Cutaias. Staten Island has always been a huge mafia bastion.

“Mine will be the last face you see, not Tony’s” I think that’s when it finally struck Gloria “Oh shit, Tony may be more powerful than I had thought” because up until that point she essentially didn’t take any of Tony’s threats seriously. But then in comes Patsy, looking like your everyday guy, pretending to go for a test drive and he got that close to her that easy. I think it was a real moment of realization that Tony was all he said he was and more.

I didn’t read it as her realising how powerful Tony was (she always knew he was a “big man” as that’s why she was attracted to him) more how disposable and inconsequential she was. All she wanted was attention from Tony even if that was him threatening her. The fact he would send a lackey and not bother himself was a moment of realisation for her on how little she mattered.

What I always found keen about this scene is it also validates that Tony, being a sociopath, has used his therapy as a way of making himself more effective in doing bad shit rather than fixing his internal issues. Like, Patsy very specifically making it known to her that HE and not Tony was going to be the one to do the deed was a point that had to be made to Gloria. He (Tony) would not have picked up on Gloria's suicide-by-cop desire unless he went through years of therapy with Melfi. Gloria wanted Tony to be the destroyer and therapy taught Tony to deprive her of that. Very keen on the writers.

She was totally suicide-by-cop when Tony was choking her; she begged to be killed. He knew from that event - and from her statements like “nobody cares if I’m alive or dead” - that she was suicidal.
@harryp7346
@harryp7346 2 жыл бұрын
This may be the case, but I think Tony wasn't an idiot - with or without the therapy, I think he knew she was a bit crazy and obsessive. And he knew he had to completely sever ties with her, and not rise to her games. Perhaps this is a "suicide-by-cop"-type reference, but I think it's simpler than that. It's just Tony saying you'll never see me again. Furthermore, Tony is obviously into organised crime - one of the aspects of such crime is the fear and intimidation (e.g. the police can't help you because even if you get one person arrested, there will be other people to take revenge). I feel he is just emphasising his position as a truly dangerous mob guy.

The crazier they are, the better fuck they are. Seriously man. The best sex I ever had was with a psycho. Couldn't stay with her long but damn was she a nymph and willing to let me do anything I wanted to her. Never jacked off once while we were going out - all I had to do was call.

This one scene made Patsy. Most the series he was dependable but just sort of there, after this scene (even after the pool incident) you know he was a guy Tony could count on. And for such a plain looking guy, he immediately became a badass.

I'm positive it was Patsy who ordered the hit on Tony in the end. Or at the very least, he (and Paulie) knew it was coming and let it happen. For Patsy it was probably belated revenge for his brother.

None of them were likeable they were all criminal scum. They were violent and tended to pick on weak people as some sort of chess puffing exercise. None of them were real men who served in war. They tended to be fictional characters based on real world scum.

This entire scene is probably the most significant of the whole series. Up to then Pat Parisi was almost an unknown side character and his appearing out of nowhere to threaten Gloria in this subtle way gives a clear picture of what exactly the mafia is. A secret organization that can pop out of nowhere and catch you completely offguard.

@nickys34 ~ Yup. I used to have to fly to NY, Queens area specifically, for business a couple of times a month back in the day. I would encounter those guys from time to time. You knew EXACTLY who they were the minute you laid eyes on them. Different from the rest of the neighborhood guidos. If you had no business with them they were usually fun guys. Especially when they found out your were from somewhere else. They wouldn't let you pay for a thing. But it didn't take long to figure out why they were what they were. Most would have trouble holding down the most menial of jobs because they were stupid. I mean dumb as a box of hammers.

Novel Chaser yes, she knew. There’s one scene when they’re dancing in a hotel room and she calls him “Mr “Waste Management”, which would imply she knew what his BS job title was really concealing. Plus he had a pistol in an ankle holster in that same scene and showed it to her lol.
