Laurie causing the bus crash trying to kill Michael would be a awesome twist and that Laurie now has to worry even more and that it would be cool to see Laurie and Michael both die at the end . Michael takes his last breath and Laurie wonded bleeding out in front of her daughter and stepdaughter .

Yes. Laurie causing the accident would have worked better. Remove the Dr. Sartain twist, don't kill Hawkins, maybe even have him in the final act with Laurie and the gang. The father I don't care for, but if you kill him, have his family react. I mean their father/husband just died and they don't shed a single tear, nothing. Also, Laurie dying in the end wouldn't be the worst thing. Either pass the torch or kill both her and Michael.

The doctor being a villain really threw me for a loop. The part that bothered me was how this old man, who had just been shot in the shoulder, is somehow able to move Michael into the police car. I guess you didn't stick around to hear Michael's breathing at the end of the credits. THAT alone indicates that he got away again. Speaking of which, Nick Castle not only performed Michael in one scene of the movie, but he also did Michael's breathing, which I thought was really cool. Oh, and if you look at Michael's face in this film, you can see his eye's messed up from being stabbed by a coat hanger. Also, there's more than one Halloween II Easter egg in this film. The first was what you mentioned, but the other was during the scene where we're introduced to Allyson's friends. Dave wonders if it was Laurie's brother who killed the three babysitters 40 years ago, but Allyson says that people made up that theory. It's a pretty damn good callback.

I think Judy Greer was purposely "robotic" in her portrayal of Laurie's daughter. She was somebody who had worked for her entire adult life, to shed her true identity, and she's pretty much a "zombie". Her whole "rose-colored sunglasses" view of a world full of love was obviously a bullshit facade. She lost her sense of self out of the shame for her mom and her issues, that she did everything she could to distance herself from her, and pretty much become a polar opposite of Laurie.
@wolflobo146 жыл бұрын

I didn't like it, but I kinda think I maybe get what they were going for. I feel like Dr. Sartain was supposed to represent a morbid curosity for Michael something that others in the movie and we as an audience wonder...what drives Michael? Sartain represents the human need to "understand." This is in contrast to Dr. Loomis who knew that Michael was purely and simply...evil. Sartain was so desperate for answers, even as Michael was about to kill him, Sartain implored Michael to speak....anything. This thirst for curisoity led to his demise....sometimes there are no answers for why people are the way they are. In this respect, he was the antithesis to Loomis. Where I think they went kinda screwy with it was having him kill the police officer...having himself become a psycho killer just to get into Michael's head, and it feels so random and then so quickly disposed of. I think they could have portrayed it as more of a tragic aspect of a scientist who just desperately wants answers, but can't have them. Even with that in my mind, I still concede, if that's what they were going for, it was poorly executed.

The writing was bad ! And they had tension building and then bam they throw in bad jokes that killed tension and sent u as a viewer back and forth in a bad way! They did alot of good things with camera , shots, lighting ! But like u said it lack true horror/ thriller tension! There was some great kills! And it was very frustrating because they start building some amazing tension and momentum! Then they pull u to a dance that felt soo off that it ruined all that momentum. That was the biggest issue of this movie was why did they need to have or try to have so much lame humor ? I dont get it. Why Danny McBride had to be apart of Halloween? I'm lost at this decision the studio made here ! Over time this movie will fade because it's just not even close to the first one which might be my favorite horror movie of all time. I agree with u on Judy Greer!!! Bad casting and directing with her character! That line was awful people laughed at that line in the theater about penis joke! It was so off ! As someone who adored this movie, ranking it at #2 behind the original and highly anticipating Kills and its sequel, this is surprisingly one of my favorite reviews on the film. I love how you point out the good and the bad, explaining why the movie disappointed you and what you wished they could've done to make it better. While I'm less harsh when it comes to the comedy (the Vicky kill was the only part where it bothered me), you still make a ton of good points there and I agree completely when it comes to the Sartain twist, such a poorly exected moment that, for me at least, has a good pay-off with his death. My favorite part of the review though has to be the last few minutes, listening to your rant on people attacking you for having a different opinion resonates with me that used to be someone who'd do the same thing with games like Terraria years ago. In a very weird way, your channel feels like the _Summer of '84_ of all horror movie review channels, because like you said in that review your videos like this one have "the balls to go there", which you do by straight up admitting that H2018 disappointed you without sugar coating or trying to be 100% positive about it to avoid negative feedback (which you sadly got anyway). We may have different opinions, but that shouldn't affect the way I feel about your content, I may adore H2018 despite its minor flaws and despise RZH2 with a fiery passion, but that won't stop me from supporting your future reviews. I'll leave my thoughts on some of the films you've reviewed since I have my own differing opinions on those, otherwise keep up the good work amigo

It was a rainy weekend here so I was searching some movie reviews on KZbin. I stumbled onto Cody Leach’s channel and wow! Love these dead-on reviews and look forward to catching up on your insights into some of my favourite horror movies (huge Chucky fan here too.) Halloween was my most anticipated film in 2018 and I was freaking heartbroken. Wiping out all sequels and starting over seemed completely logical before I saw H2018. Don’t get me wrong, I love several of the sequels but based on how much ground, however nonsensical, they have already covered it seemed like the best move to start over. I expected H2018 to be brilliant. I’m not even sure if it was an expectation but more a belief based on who was involved in bringing this latest version to life. Cody’s review outlining all the negatives is perfect. Dr. Sartain was a cheap substitute for Dr. Loomis and making him evil and sympathetic to Mr. Myers was nothing but a rip-off of other franchises giving us a “it’s been done to death” character. The teenagers in this story were as bland as they come and the lame Halloween dance drama was again ripped-off FROM EVERY SINGLE TEEN COMEDY EVER MADE! Again, what was the point of this? Oh right, to quickly dispose of the granddaughter’s cell phone... The kills in this movie have all been done before so nothing new here. Jamie Lee Curtis’ character of Ms. Strode was again played to perfection. Again I feel her Halloween H20 self was simply further enhanced but instead of hiding, Lori chases down the boogeyman (which I did like better.). I loved some of the references to previous sequels (Halloween III masks were perfection.) I think the only reference to Halloween Resurrection might have been when getting gas, Jefferson Hall’s character spots the “Resurrection Church” van and gives the peace sign to the passenger. The only reference is the actual word, “Resurrection.” I’d be a little less generous here and give Halloween 2018 a 2.5 / 5. It might seem harsh but they had such a large palette here but instead chose to copy and paste! Cody’s channel is freaking awesome and I’m looking forward to watching more reviews! I haven’t seen Child’s Play 2019 and can’t wait until September 10th so I can finally see what I hope is an epic reboot!

I think the doctor character would've been more interesting if he was part of a cult that worshipped Michael Myers as a god. It really would've explained his obsession, and all the other shit. Glad I got a chance to see this on Thursday. It really freed up my day to binge Daredevil Season 3.

Oh, and good job being on point with the troll commentary. Some fans need to grow up and understand that we all don't think the same. We're not like that new NPC meme. Here's a secret: I actually enjoyed Curse of Chucky. Yeah, I see all the flaws in it, like a good movie viewer should, but I don't think it really outweighs the good that movie had. It was a nice return to form to the Chucky franchise, and at times, I felt it was genuinely creepy. Hell, I liked it more than Bride and Seed, and before I re watched the entire series earlier this year, I would've rated Curse at #2 in my personal ranking (For the record, it's now #4, behind the original Child's Play trilogy). But my point is, people can point out glaring mistakes in a movie and still enjoy it.

I kind of wonder if the doctor was originally a bigger part of the 3rd act. If they did reshoots due to test audiences negative responses, maybe that’s why his story is wrapped up so fast in the final version.

I hope they DON'T. I liked this movie, but I'm tired of sequels. They need to just be done. This had a good ending...there was no "Aha! Michael's not really dead" moment at the end, and Laurie Strode is triumphant. THE END. But...I know they wont. There will inevitably be another. While I know it may not financially make the most sense, from an artistic perspective, I wish they would just stop on a good note, a good movie instead of a bad one.

As a die hard fan of the franchise, I think alot more could have been done to Michael in this film if you know what I mean. He's a force, he's evil and unstoppable. The only damage and punishment that he came across was being clipped and shot in the shoulder a few times, hand blown off, stabbed repeatedly in the arm and run over by a car. A normal human being could survive all those wounds. I understand this is a direct sequel to Halloween and ignores every other sequel. But you know what in for you when you watch Michael do his thing. He has supernatural strength, stealth and endurance. Why not balance that out and justify how evil and unstoppable he truly is. I know the script calls for it and hes protected due to the fact that he is a product. Any thoughts??

Spot on Cody, I love your idea about the bus crash that would've been way better & added more drama to Lauries character that it's she who's responsible for Michaels escape, damm I want see that scene now, I think they should have cast Danielle Harris as Lauries daughter, it been cool to have seen two iconic scream queens finally team up I think producers missed a trick there. I completely agree about the ending, it's abrupt & we don't know Michael fate because it's obvious the producers want a sequel that what irked me the most & don't get me started on that Sartain twist that was fucking stupid & nearly as bad as that Predator Killer suit ending in The Predator. Love your reviews & content, you have natural charm & likeability, I'm a bipolar sufferer & social phobic due to years of manic depression & PTSD & I always look forward to watching your reviews, anytime your in UK first rounds on me. Everything you said, I can relate with. This film could have gone so many different ways. In many cases, I feel like I could’ve written a better script. I loved the references to the old film and the music was on point. But when the poor writing and characters clash, it just makes the movie a little more unpleasant to watch. A good movie overall, but not the best Halloween I’ve seen

My opinion about this is exactly how you describe it. I watched this 2 times in a row on opening night. I still left with a similar feeling. I tried to defend it. I've given it the benefit of the doubt. But I insist that this is exactly how I feel. I don't know what you think of Vicki's scene or Alysons "chase" sequence, but those left me so disappointed on top of the evil thirsty doctor and the inappropriate humor. And i really liked these charactors and was excited for their "big moments". Not having a silhouette or a shadow of the shape following allyson was a "wtf were they thinking" moment. Vicki's entire scene with her boyfriend asking him to go check out that noise upstairs to all of a sudden being totally fine checking it out once the kid says himself "the boogeyman is in this house" just leaves me scratching my head. Her attack felt so ..... floppy. The grunts she makes, to the kid going "oh shit" to Dave going "fuck this" to the extremely bright lights on in the hallway takes completely away from the potential tension this scene could have had. The frustration made me want to shake the film makers and ask "WTF WERE YOU THINKING?" The complete final act with JLC was pure gold. But the ending had me feeling the same way. Underwhelmed in a "that's it?" Kind of way. I will add, (it wasn't until a friend pointed this out) that the final frame of Allyson holding the knife was a call back to the first movie. It ended it on a note that says "well at least Laurie taught her granddaughter better to keep the knife in hand just in case!". As in the originai, Laurie kept throwing the knife down only to be attacked again and again. Never let your guard down so to speak. So I see that in a very poetic tone now. Sorry to hear of all the hate you received for keeping it real. Truth hurts. I think some people don't want to admit something they invested so much time in anticipating disappointed them. So they project it on anyone who dare speak on it. I know it was hard for me to go back to work and face people who asked "so, what did you think?" after hearing me talk non stop for over a year about how awesome this movie is gonna be only to have to admit "I was disappointed". 😂 I love your reviews.

I still have to go see this a second time but my biggest issues were definitely the same as yours! The entire storyline with the boyfriend was so bad, he was nothing but a poor plot device to show the strained relationship between Laurie and Karen at the dinner and, as you said, to get Allyson walking out without a cell phone. (I had the same 'really?? they couldn't have done that better?' reaction as you.) Honestly, the movie felt almost like three separate films at time and it really made it impossible to immerse myself in the first half or so. The doctor drove me NUTS because I actually was into the twist, I was thinking oh maybe they ARE going to do something different with it after all... and then it went absolutely nowhere. It had no point! Once Michael showed up at the house, I was ALL IN and that saved the movie for me because it was amazing and all the callbacks were incredibly done. I WAS on the edge of my seat and it's definitely one of the most intense sequences I've ever watched. But... when the credits rolled, I was left with the feeling of that's it? It just felt so anti-climatic and not like an ending at all; I went on a ghost tour last night wearing my Halloween shirt and the guide told me she'd seen it that day and said the same exact thing! Overall, I'd give this movie a 6.5/10 just because of the first half. Outside of the babysitter and Julian, I could have done without the teenager storylines and I wish we could have seen more of Michael stalking the way he did in the original film. I wish it had focused more on Laurie because she was amazing in this and I honestly wish Laurie had died so that we could free ourselves from that same old formula! Oh, and completely agreed on the kills too! I loved how they were a perfect mix of brutality and holding back, a perfect update to the 1978 kills! Thanks for always being so honest and upfront about everything, I love watching your reviews and I'm the same as you: I'm so happy that people like Lee who waited for so long got so much enjoyment out of it. For me, I've waited for a long time and I just wish it could have been better. I hope the inevitable sequel will be because of the honesty of people like you!

Sad that you didnt love the movie but thats your opinion and i respect it. I personaly LOVED it and its a tie for me beetween this one and the original because how mirrored they are. In the OG michael is a stalker, in this one, he is done waiting, the just wants to unleash hell like it was perfectly demonstrated in this one take clip killing everbody without hesistating. But thats what i love about most halloween fan. There are so many cool and different opinions and you can discuss forever and there would be still no right order how to order them( exept putting ressurection above the OG then i think everbody will disagree with this order🤣) great review and keep up with the cool content. PS: Hope there will be a NOES movie which will be like a reboot of the series with a legit story and good actors

phantomy 89, I would absolutely love a new NOES movie and hopefully they can get Robert Englund on board to reprise Freddy. If they were to retcon everything after the first film like Halloween did, it sucks in a way because we lose Dream Warriors in the continuity but it also means we get actors like Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon back which would be amazing.

I know I'm years late to this, but I've been binge watching your Hallowen playlist, and other playlists (you make damn good content) and though I disagree with you on some points, for the most part you're pretty much right on the money. I LOVE this movie, almost reluctantly because I have a lot of the same gripes with it, but it just felt like such a love letter to the entire franchise. I've always hated the family tie in the series and feel that it never should have been a thing and I think the whole Michael/Laurie thing works VASTLY better if it's just a simple obsession because she's the toy that he never got to finish playing with. I genuinely believe in that first movie, everything he did that night was with the express purpose of tormenting Laurie because she just so happened to have caught his eye. That's what The Shape is all about in my eyes. Like you said in one of your reviews, he's evil because evil is evil. And while that's almost cartoonishly simple, I get a well of nuance and interesting ideas from that concept of Myers alone. But yeah, I even have some gripes with this movie that you didn't bring up, I feel like it's ALMOST the sequel this franchise has really been waiting 4 decades to finally get delivered. At the same time, though, I 100% understand why this movie could turn someone off. Have them hate it even. As far as all of the toxicity that you experienced, I have a theory about that. I think there's some strange sociological phenomenon where franchises that start off very strong, but have a very inconsistent quality and lore, for some reason breed the MOST toxic and divisive fanbases imaginable. That's the mad scientist formula to create insane rabid toxic geeks. As a lifelong fan of Halloween (it's to me what ANOES and Child's Play are to you), I've seen it amongst this fanbase for a long time as well as with others in a similar state like the Fallout series. Basically what I'm saying is, the most evil thing that the Shape has ever done was breed Halloween fans lol
