I can’t wait to see Halloween Kills tomorrow😊. I’m really disappointed that they decided to approach the film like a Friday the 13th movie (light on story and more emphasis on the brutality of the kills), but hopefully I’ll still enjoy it more than Halloween 2018. It’s funny because me and mom sister we’re excited to see Halloween 2018, but ever since that movie came out, we rarely watched ever sense the movie theaters. When we’re in a mood for a Halloween movie, we always choose the older ones over Halloween 2018.

@heartofalegend3 жыл бұрын
@@libradawg9 I appreciate your point, but you CAN dock a film for failing to write dialogue that properly fits the characters for whom its intended. They can't help the absence of Loomis, but they can and should recognize dialogue that only sounds appropriate for Pleasance. On this front, they failed utterly.
@libradawg93 жыл бұрын
@@heartofalegend I still see it as some sort of slight to the movie for not having a Joey Loomis or whoever to carry things on. There is one way this suddenly cryptic Laurie thing can work - Ends will need its own flashbacks. The biggest plot hole from 2018 was having him inside an institution for some reason. Kills gave that information and more. Bc as far as we know the only time Laurie spoke to Loomis was asking if Michael was the boogeyman. In 2018 there was a terrible plot hole when she asked Sartain if he was *The new Loomis *. If all other sequels were retconned, why was she expecting a Michael guru with the same accent because of that one interaction? In other words, all of our complaints would fix themselves if they grew a pair and wrote SOMEONE resembling Loomis into this. Visiting her in the hospital and often thereafter. Helping her build her house fortress. They should've been best friends for years. Giving us a flashback Loomis would make Kills better and enhance Ends. After all, none of us would complain if we got a good Loomis! Nobody would.

It’s amazing how they can nail certain things such as creating “lost scenes” from the original film to fill in gaps from that part of the story, but can completely fumble other portions of the new part of the story. You would think it would be harder to make scenes that look and fit into the original more than it would to create and continue story for the newer part of the story. Bigger isn’t always better. I appreciate the increase in the gore and kills, but when that comes at the sacrifice of atmosphere and building great tension, especially with the original being famous for that, there is no longer a scary movie left by the end of the film. I enjoyed the movie well enough, but I’m with you Cody, very lackluster and clumsy storytelling/plot that did not advance this story much at all. This new thread of films, as we all probably know and think should’ve ended with a definitive conclusion in Halloween 2018.
@CodyLeachYT3 жыл бұрын
It's amazing isn't it? The craftsmanship that went into that flashback had all the mood and tension of 1978 and then they act like they don't know how to do that for the rest of the movie.

@@CodyLeachYT Right. And if your claim is going to be, “We’re going to do this franchise right by keeping it close to original story” you damn well better do everything you can to carryover the same tone as the OG. I understand implementing new ideas to keep the story fresh, but priority 1. at least for me would be continuing the same feelings of dread/suspense the OG did flawlessly. The 2018 did not do a good job of that either.
@jskypercussion3 жыл бұрын
Ok, I have an idea to recapture that legendary suspense that is missing. I will film it Cody. I will come on out with by big ass lifted truck. I will be dressed as Michael while driving it. Sounds like this is going to be a trilogy where you need to see Halloween Ends to see if they bring this all together. Maybe the tension will return in Halloween Ends and they were using this second film to get Myers body and brutality up since they erased all past movies. I had my issues with 2018 but liked it, this one sounds like it wont be my favorite but I do want to see how the entire trilogy comes together in the end. No pun intended.

If you're a fan of a more grounded, apex predator stalker Michael that plays on the suspension of disbelief in a good way, you'll be disappointed. I came out disliking this movie especially the last act. Weak writing all throughout which is why I think they made the kills so crazy and so much to make up for it but when you see the movie you'll understand by the last act why I was like "okay this is just stupid. I can forgive a lot but so many people did dumb shit and the way Myers is or they make him become, just isn't something that makes sense at all with the director saying "Michael is human he can't do the impossible he's man" etc etc.

They killed Tommy before he could actually do anything to fight against Micheal. And Karen also just got killed for the sake of a cliffhanger, completely ruining the development she got in the previous movie. All that's left is Hawkins, The Sheriff, Allison, and Laurie who pretty much did jack all.

As a Friday fan, I thought this movie was great. I loved Michael Myers, even more than in 2018, I really liked some of the shots and the cinematography overall, the score was kick-ass and the kills were absolutely fantastic. This movie suffers however because of the script. There were some incredibly cheesy lines that totally take you out of the movie and while I like the concept of the story ( the people of Haddonfield wanting to finally kill Michael and being proactive) , it got lost in the execution. The characters were ok overall, some pretty good and some less than desirable. I'd give this movie a 4.25/5, but one's enjoyment of the film is directly related to one's expectations in regards to what they want out of it, so I can completely understand if die hard Halloween fans won't think fondly of it. It is definitely a film meant for horror and gore fans, so I doubt the casual audience will be won over by Halloween Kills.

@@taylorpack7705 it’s a call back to what the cop said in the beginning, and Loomis’s speech about how he would just stare out the window or at walls and do basically nothing. He’s likely looking at his reflection and at the people below since cops and EMTs are still down there. As for if he’s a ghost now no of course not there’s just a time skip and Michael did what Michael does he snuck into the house through the back door after killing all of them and then snuck up on Karen. As for the thing she sees in the window it’s just her imagination playing with her seeing child Michael in his clown costume likely moments after killing Judith in her mind but we know he didn’t actually do that he went right down stairs.

I'm not surprised by your take on this, and I haven't even seen it yet. I think at this point if they are going to make any more sequels past Halloween Ends, they should pick up after Curse. Granted it was 26 years ago but they sure left it an open ending with his body gone and just showing the mask and syringe. A lot of people crap on Curse and granted it has issues, it still has a lot more atmosphere and dread than these new movies. Resurrection was just full blown terrible and I pretend it doesn’t exist and that timeline ends at H20 for me with that perfect head chopping ending. For me the franchise started to go downhill once we found out Laurie and Michael are brother and sister and then REALLY went downhill once we lost Donald Pleasence. I think the major thing for me is that 2018 was tonally and narratively all over the place while Kills was a little more cohesive and coherent. Dave McRae seems to agree with this sentiment.

Exactly how I felt, Cody. The 1978 recreations, the tying of loose ends from the 2018 film and the reunion of the 1978 kids all grown up was nice. It was all undone by having them contribute to eventually nothing by the end of the movie. Zero pay off. I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt for being "the middle movie" but as a standalone, meh. Thanks for the review Cody. Look forward to more content from you.

How TF was Michael able to get back into the house without being seen? 3. It was too damn looong! I was counting down the time for it to end. 4. A large majority of characters were so damn stupid. Like they had me rooting for Michael, bruh! 5. Michael and his kills are the strongest part of this movie! And that's it!

Not going to lie, I thought this was an abomination of a movie, extremely disappointed. Halloween 2018 for me was a mixed bag, it did certain things well & had potential, but got a lot wrong and I knew rebounding from that movie would be tough. However, I still expected more, the only positive is James Jude Courtney, he plays a great Myers, that's all I can say good about this movie.

@@ChrisB-br6kc I don't blindly rate a movie because I loved the original movie and liked some of the original sequels. This movie had no suspense, no atmosphere, it didn't feel like a Halloween movie at all. It feels like Michael Myers is no longer the shape, but basically Jason Voorhees wearing a Michael Myers mask. Not to mention, I don't like the direction of Halloween 2018 and Kills, just felt they missed a great opportunity.

I’m going in with limited expectations. I consider myself a Halloween fanatic, I think Michael is the greatest slasher to ever grace the big screen. However, I thought H18 fell flat on a lot of instances. It wasn’t a good Halloween movie, it was a decent, modern day “slasher” film at best. Feeling that way, and knowing the direction they’ve taken, I don’t think Kills will live up to its hype. We’ll see officially on Friday, and I could very well be blown away by the movie. But I’ve definitely limited my expectations, so I won’t be as let down as I was with H18.

I saw the movie tonight. I agree with everything you touched on. There were returning characters from the original Halloween that really got on my nerves during this film. Then there were characters from H18 that really surprised me. For me, there was a little more tension in this movie than H18. I loved the carnage this film brought. I’m glad I saw it in theaters, but like you, I would have been just as well off seeing this at home. This almost felt like a glorified fan film with some of the delivery and pacing of the film. The score was great, but didn’t wow me as much as the H18 score. Great review, Cody, as always.

Great review, very fair and balanced! Thank you! I'm a huge Halloween fan, sorry to hear you got some crap from your previous review. Please don't think all Halloween fans are the same, if it has a big following, you're gonna get some idiots and you're gonna get some decent folk. The larger the fanbase, the more likely you're gonna get some oddness. I know you know this, but wanted to say we're not all that negative or poisonous :) It's almost like when you support a football team supported by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and then a handful of idiots decide to do something stupid, the whole club gets a bad name because of it. I'd give the movie a 6.5/7 on initial viewing, thought it was OK. There's something missing in these new movies, a Loomis, someone to really connect Halloween the night to Myers, that kinda thing without it going Halloween 6 level. A subtle hint that Myers and Halloween night are one without going overboard. i think they tried that here, but everyone and its dog chanting evil dies tonight is just not gonna cut it. They seem to spend too much time talking about Michael Myers, even showing him in the flashback was unnessacary, to try and get a picture of what Myers is. All you needed in the original (and H2(81) was Loomis great speeches. I really respect your views, think you do excellent videos and I'm sorry you didn't like this film but I appreciate your honesty and love hearing your thoughts. See you for Halloween Ends :)
