I would recommend waiting until you see the autosave icon before sending everyone home. I found that during multiplayer as long as you see that go off all progress is saved until that point.

I started playing 9 days ago. 5 days in and I caught it during a visit to a different island using a nooks miles ticket. Oarfish then a tuna then a Ceolacanth and yesterday a Blue Marlin.

Random info on sea bass shadow VS coelacanth shadow: They are difficult to tell apart, but there are a few subtle differences from what I’ve noticed. The sea bass shadow has a rounder head, and the tail sways faster than a rare fish shadow. A coelacanth shadow is slender and has some extra length on it, and the tail sways much more slowly than a bass shadow. I also don’t know this for sure, but coelacanths have roughly a 1% chance of spawning. There is also a much smaller window when it bites, aka you need to be slightly quicker with your reaction timing than with another (more common) fish.

Truthfully I didn't know the coelacanth was THAT big a deal. I just caught one earlier on a ticket island by random chance and since this my first Animal Crossing, the only things tipping me off that it was even a little special were the sheer size, the fact that I hadn't caught one before, and that I knew what a coelacanth was beforehand. I would love to get another one, because I don't know if I can part with my only one to give it to the museum, as it looks real nice in my house. It's easily my second favorite find after my pet snapping turtle Raphael.

First off I'd like to offer my condolenses for that first lost Coel and say thank you for bringing another awesome video! Unfortunately, the hot garbage that is the hosting happens - During the fishing contest earlier this month we had a full island of 8 and after we all got 300 someone disconnected and reset a chunk of progress. From what I've seen most disconnections have happened from people using the - button. We ended up having a designated saver, they'd leave via the airport to force save then come back, Of course this has a chance to disconnect too but from what I've seen it's less of a chance. After this happened I employeed a friend of mine to do some testing, we spent about six hours [roughly 3 for both tests] - We concluded that he disconnected significantly [over double] when using the - button than he did when he left via the airport. Maybe it's a bug, maybe it's the trash hosting, maybe it's both but it does seem to be an issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

I think another helpful tip to those who are on a mission for this fish: Go to an island with your Nook Ticket. Cause that’s how I caught mine..and I’ve only had this game for 4days now.😅😅 It happened to be raining on the little island and I walked over to this big fish shadow on the left and he probably nibbled maybe 4 times cautiously and Boooommmm it was a Coelacanth. I was absolutely shookith..👀 wasn’t even looking for him honestly. Anyways, good job youtuber for persisting🤩🤩 and most of all holding your tongue from fowl language.😅 I bet it was super frustrating.

What I’m predicting happened is that the island will autosave to a server that syncs all members individual servers, and then on a different span of time the server data is saved locally to each individual persons game file. So it may autosave to the server but if there is a disconnect issue or you disconnect from server before it’s saved locally (which is not displayed anywhere) it will not save the contents from that span of time. It’s possible they did this to (maybe) prevent trolling, or it’s j a huge oversight. This would explain why if one person disconnects there is a crash for everyone, unlike most other online games where it just crashes that one person. There requires a positive connection to each individual server.
