As a 47yr old I do feel that someways I’m now practicing the old ways as the internet did not exist when I started out at 17, these days the books you get is amazing we had nothing and what did exist was hard to come by in rural England . Also the craft has become so aesthetic, we never used crystals and sage bundles, different colour candles etc. Witchcraft has become sadly a consumerism thing to some degree. X

Love the fact that you guys are talking about people seeing things black and white while you are wearing opposing black and white outfits👌 also it reminds me of as above so below, one reflecting the other, within one contains the other, similar to yinyang, teaching us that everything bad has a little good and everything good has a little bad. Love the perspectives have a good weekend✌️♥️

I would love to see you and Olivia talk more about cultural appropriation in witchcraft. I have seen Olivia, who is non-indigenous as far as I'm aware, recommend non-Natives to use sage and smudging in several of her videos. It gets so tiring to see my culture constantly appropriated by the witchcraft/pagan community, and even more so when those people claim to care about BIPOC inclusivity. Since you are both bigger creators, and non-Natives unfortunately don't listen to us Natives when we call them out for appropriating our practices, I think it would be helpful to us for you both to explain to your non-Native audience why appropriating is dangerous and disrespectful. Miigwech(thank you)!
@nunya52302 жыл бұрын
I agree but sage and smudging isn't a native exclusive thing the last time I checked. Cultural apporation comes when they take direct practices, rituals, spells, etc. Not buying a herb and burning it (depending on the herb and the method of burning) but I do agree the witchcraft/pagan community does have a problem with cultural appropriation.
@NovellyBella2 жыл бұрын
@@nunya5230 Burning white/mountain sage and smudging are Native-created practices actually. It doesn't take much research to see that our community is mainly against non-Natives smudging. Keep in mind that smoke cleansing and smudging are two different things. Smudging is a Native practice that commonly uses the four medicines, and it's used for different healing reasons. The specific types of plants we use are indigenous to our lands, and do not exist in other parts of the world, naturally. The overuse of sweetgrass, and white and mountain sage by non-Native pagans is actually creating a scarcity in the plants, so Natives are now actually having trouble getting access to our own medicines (i.e. one's not harvested by mass companies and non-Native businesses that don't know how to properly harvest them safely and respectfully.) We normally encourage non-Natives to research their own cultures and see what methods they used for smoke cleansing, instead of using our closed practices.
@nunya52302 жыл бұрын
@@NovellyBella You did not specify white mountain sage so I was speaking of sage in general. The only other culture I know that uses sage similary to native americans is Indians and I know most of the people that do white mountain sage are not Indian or native american.

I love hearing stories about how people started their paths. I feel like I started much later in the game since I didn't fully explore until I was 22/23 (7-8yrs ago) and moved away (exploring witchcraft at a catholic high school is apparently a no no). Piggybacking off the whole publisher tidbit, I will say Llewellyn seems to publish just about anything spiritual that they can get their hands on. So I agree that folks shouldn't completely discredit them because there are some hidden gems in there

I feel like my start to the craft was really odd. Like REALLY odd. I was really suicidal and the night before I planned to do it I had a dream where a plauge doctor looking thing (he was probably 6'5 ft tall, in a white plauge mask that looked like bone material with a black dark, heavy, robe. He had no eyes and the darkness of the black where his eyes should be was indescribable combine with a deep, deep booming voice) made me sign a contract with him, and if I didn't I would be killed by these creatures that looked absolutely horrifying. I woke up scared shitless and every time I wanted or tried to end it I would get severely punished or tested to gain strength or feel something. In my life I grew to feel again because every night I really deeply in my soul wanted to die or harm myself with the hopes of dying I had to try to find a way to survive a scenario in hand to whatever weapon the creature had combat. My practice started when I got shown Wicca randomly all over my youtube suggestions, and I kept finding astrology all over my socials and protection tips and everything every day for months. I still have tried to find what creature it was that saved me I found nothing, but he hasn't visited in years and it honestly makes me upset. He did put me in really distressing scenarios but he made me have a desire to live again.

I've been aware of the patterns she's talking about since I was very small but didn't apply the thought of "an i a witch?" until my early 30's and didn't accept it, due to thinking all the good things were attributed to a Christian God, until my late 30's. We all have a journey that leads us but I still felt I wasted so much time and energy on the Christian path so I mourned time lost for sure. It was cool to finally learn what Astral travel was and that I was doing it as a child without realizing it. I thought everyone did that laying their bored at night fighting sleep. Lol I love to hear other people path to witchcraft. 🧡🍂🍁🕯🌒🌕🌘

Yeeeeeeeeeees. Everytime I go to green man it feel like there's this pressure to buy a shit ton of stuff and that always bugs me. Thankfully there's new witchy stores opening up in the area and if I have to go there I wear protection and cleanse before and after. The best daily spell I do is sending out energy for my family to CLOSE THE DOOR all the way. I highly recommend it Lol And finally, as a middle eastern/southwest asian person I can 100% agree that there are women out there who choose to wear hair/head/body coverings of any type in the SWANA region (or globally if they emigrated). Of course some don't and they don't always have a choice, but it's irritating to see hijabs and burqas being brought up so often as a defining feature of the area, especially by people who probably don't know anything else about the region/people/cultures and probably don't care unless they're making it about themselves. Like hell, not all of us are even Muslim. There's Christians, Buddhists, Taoists, Pagans and folk magic practitioners here too. You know how irritating it is to have people think you're not middle easter/southwest asian cuz you don't wear a hijab (and you're not tan enough)? But then I watch you get attacked for veiling and all I can think is wtf do people want?? And honestly it's not about either of us, they're making it about themselves. They probably have internalized racism or xenophobia or something and they're "standing up" for people to subconsciously prove to themselves that they can't be racist or whatever cuz see they're fighting for other people's rights. I feel like you already know that tho. Funny enough I've been wanting to try veiling, but 1. It makes me look like a russian grandma??? And 2. My family doesn't do head coverings and if I do it, it'll look suspicious so I've been thinking of charming clothes or jewelry instead. The irony is not lost on me 😅💀
