My take on this. I was called by my mother and told the coroner had come for my little brother. He passed at age thirty. The police asked me if I had any medical conditions before they let me see him. He had a seizure which triggered a cardiac arrest due to a undiagnosed heart problem. The look of agony on his face along with the purple skin was heartbreaking his tongue was protruding.When I visited him at the funeral home in their cold storage he was cleaned up and looked so peaceful. I thought he had never looked less stressed even with the autopsy stitches in his head leaking blood. My in laws came with us and thought he looked terrifying. So, Seeing your loved one in this state is all in the eye of the beholder. To me he was beautiful.

This question was extremely important to me. I was denied seeing my daughter and I asked more than once and I even said even one toe I was denied and I obviously was you know, I was in some type of shock . Tragically loosing my daughter. My first born. But I didn't know that there was any recourse for me . No other family members were with me at that time. I'm her mom . I'm her mother . I felt I had that right ! I know it would have been terribly shocking and not, not her as we knew her. And maybe I'm just kind of morbid gruesome individual or something . I don't see it that way. I wanted to see her so terribly badly. Yes it took weeks to identify her by dental records. She was burned beyond recognition apparently . Yet I still, say I'm her mom, I wanted to see her, It is my RIGHT. And yes, I did say, "whatever little bit of her, Her baby toe ! I knew there wasn't much left of her.So they dead. I knew it would be bad, I knew her remains would smell. But I believe it was my right. And I was denied. And I wouldn't change my position if I could do it again. I would insist harder. The funeral home I worked in recommended my brother not see my niece after her death. She was killed in a car crash on her 1st day of high school. The autopsy showed she died of smoke inhalation with being burnt beyond recognition. The only thing not burnt was her right foot. Jerry did not even put her in her casket until after the funeral (due to the smell of burnt flesh etc ) until we were ready to go to the cemetery. They did open the casket at the end to put in a CD playing her favorite music on repeat after everyone had left. I am thankful my brother did not see Sarah in that condition. I do not believe he would still be here if he did. Thanks for the coffee talk.

Excellent, Kari! So sorry about your niece! I became interested in this years ago when my Aunt did make up and hair for a funeral home in Detroit, Michigan. I never followed up with it for some reason. When my mother died, she was made up with pink lipstick. My mother never ever wore pink lipstick ... her favorite was Revlon's "Cherries in the Snow." That is red! We redid her lipstick ourselves. The funeral home didn't give us any flack (Verheyden's in Grosse Pointe, Mi). My brother died in 2015. I wasn't there. He was 65 - died after a failed insertion of a LVAD. Anyhow my sister said after he had been declared dead, he sat up in bed with his arms straight out. In all my years of experience I have never seen this. What do you know about it? I worked in ICU CCU as a R.N. for years so I am comfortable with topics that you address. We live in Alaska. I tell my husband to bury me in the back yard because no one would know LOL. OK, that's my macabre humor for today. I'm an old lady who has been around the earth 80+ years. Dear Carmen, I am a retired RN also. I have also had a similar experience as your Sister did with your Brother(I am sorry for your loss). This actually happened with the first death that I witnessed, my Grandmother. My Grandmother was pronounced dead and she sat up with eyes open. I believe this is because my Aunt began screaming and crying, begging her not to leave. I do believe her spirit came back into the body. She stayed with us until we were all calm. I never tell this story to anyone but, sharing with you. I have worked many hospice cases and can say without a doubt that the spirit is much stronger than the body. At the time of death the spirit needs to generate a lot of energy to leave. I wish that I had known this when I had my Family and I had that experience. It was truly painful and frightening as well. I know that being with those at the time of death, these experiences have strengthened my faith as a Christian. There is life after death. Maybe not life as we know it. I hope that I may have given you some possible answers to comfort you.

@@sandrabrown2132 I am sure that experience was startling and sad at the same time. It's easy for a loved one to have trauma and perhaps counseling after. Of course, we know that the final air escapes the lungs when the body totally relaxes. That frightens loved ones when witnessed. But, you said that she raised her head. Perhaps she saw someone in the room that noone else could see to escort her soul and spirit to another place? There are a lot of hospice nurse videos(some physicians also), about their experiences with the dying. I couldn't do that out of respect for my family's who I've cared for throughout the years. I am so sorry for your loss Sandra. You gave a final give to the One who gave you life; respecting her, honoring her and showing her love by your presence at the end of hers here on earth. She was on her way to a beautiful journey that is still a mystery to us. May God give you His Comfort as only He can.

Thankfully, situation so different in U.K. 🇬🇧. As a retired FD our brief is to discuss everything about the arrangements for the funeral. If the deceased is badly decomposed, we strongly advise no view to family. If they insist, we will endeavour to accommodate. Family can choose own clothing or funeral gowns for their loved on. Apart from certain specific rules if cremation, family can place toy or cards etc in coffin. For burial, almost anything within reason can be placed. Normally, viewing by family during working hours - via phone call prior. Special view if long distant relative or working pattern means late view. Whatever type of coffin the family may choose - be it basic or solid oak. If the deceased is to be cremated, THAT COFFIN will still be used. The family have chosen & are paying for it so it will be used - no SWOPPING prior to cremation. All U.K. 🇬🇧 funeral homes be they independent, family run or big business are closely monitored & any problems are investigated immediately. I cannot remember any sort of scandal that comes near those of abandoned funeral homes I read so often on U TUBE! There would be such an outcry that our government would insist on becoming involved!! Apologies for any ramble, but reading & watching videos of such horrible events saddens & infuriated me. My question is HOW HAS IT EVER BEEN ALLOWED TO HAPPEN??

I have a question- my uncle passed away in his apartment and wasn’t found for a month. We were told that he had basically “liquified”. My father had to go to the apartment to collect some personal belongings and he said he saw, what he thought, was pieces of flesh still on the floor of the room my uncle was found in. The funeral home advised that he couldn’t be viewed and that his remains needed to be put/sealed in a bag and then placed into the casket and the casket couldn’t be open at any point. My questions are - was that most likely flesh that my dad saw? If he was found after a month, would he actually be liquid? Would there be tissue? As far as the funeral home - what kind of bag would his remains have been placed in? Like a garbage bag or more of a ziplock bag? What would the remains have looked like and would they have had to treat a smell? Ty!!!
@KaritheMortician2 жыл бұрын
A body bag. It is hard to say what he saw. I would need a lot more info.
@vanessahinds83202 жыл бұрын
It also depends on the weather and temperature of the apartment when he passed, before his remains were found.

So glad I found your channel. This type of information is way to difficult to come by... When you pay for a disinterment do you have a right to identify/confirm the remains of your loved one?
@KaritheMortician2 жыл бұрын
If they have to open the casket then possibly you can view but probably sign a lot of legal stuff for mental anguish and such

The Emitt Till story is so sad . The woman needs to be served . One of my friends brother died in a car crash , she and her mother saw him . I believe it was awful for them . A classmate got killed in Vietnam, stepped on a land mine . Only identified by a finger with his class ring on it . His stepfather and pastor had too see him for I don't know why . His mother told me year's later that for year's she expected him to come home.

My mom's boyfriend was crushed in the line of duty (Firefighter) and I was told he would have a closed casket. Imagine my horror, when as the crowd of people at the service pushed me up to the front, his casket was OPEN! He was in his dress uniform and his cap was pulled way down over his eyes. I lost all composure at that point. I wish I hadn't see him like that. They did their best, but as a kid, I was so upset.

It was such a sad sad story. What is even sadder is that animals treat each other with more respect than humans do. Jumping off the topic I always told my kids when you poop vanilla and every one else is pooping chocolate then you are special otherwise you are just as good as everyone else. I am clearly not Kari, but my dad died with that same medical situation and yes you can embalm. He looked great and very peaceful. In fact, I hope to go the same way. The doctor told us he was here one moment and gone the next. There was likely no pain at all.

Could restorative care be done to Emmett Till where he could be viewable? If that tragedy would have happened in these days

They did view him but yes now much more could have been done to restore him but I think the point of his viewing was to allow the world to see what those men had done to him

You are definitely a up front lady. I have so many stories of funerals and hospice, not only from my own family but I was also a care giver for my pastor after his health got bad. I have worked with all of our funeral homes in our immediate area and several out of state. Jeez, I have so many stories I could share, not only did I have to work with the families but I worked with the funeral homes on the arrangements for the families. My hat is off to you. If Josh is ever in Georgia again, tell him to check out mahaley Lancaster. Heard county. She was a fortune teller. June Carter played her in the movie. Murder in coweta County, along with, Andy Griffin and Johnny Cash. There is a book by Dot Moore on her, oracle of the ages. The blue ridge witch is short in comparison. This lady was interesting. I remember my grandparents talking about her. Check it out.✌️❤️🙏🏼
