You can't know how much I needed this. I have sabotaged so many relationships because of this. And I have been SO VERY CLOSE to ending a relationship that is so precious to me because of mind reading that is influenced by my depression. Even in the darkness, this is crystal clear and logical. Thank you. Now, on to the next step!

i noticed that i always get anxiety when i think about certain situations and especially when I’m thinking about the other person perception of the whole matter . This mind reading is something i feel that i struggle with since a young age and contributes to my social anxiety at times .

I appreciate this video. The key to changing this cognitive distortion, "stay in your own head" is what I've been searching for, for myself. I had mistakenly assumed that I was personalizing but this explanation and technique is more appropriate to my needs.

I understand the "mind reading" is a cognitive distortion in depression and such - where's the line between this and intuition e.g. in toxic relations. Some people are unfortunately very toxic and a lot of it is endorsed by society to a certain degree. The "single friend" who considered his date talking about another man as proof she liked him: I wouldn't be surprised if he actually heard this as serious advice. Frankly, I don't know which more delusional/toxic: - assuming your date is into you if/because they tell you about "your competition" and "want jealousy as proof of affection"; or - going on a romantic date with someone to talk about your romantic interest in someone else. It's one thing to turn a romantic date into a friend zone hangout, but ... There is a not-so-fine line there. And this is a pretty clean cut example, most subtle signs are subtle. I do have a genuinely hard time to find the sweet spot between giving the benefit of doubt and trusting my intuition.

You make an excellent point. Non verbal communication and reading between the lines of what someone is saying can be exceptionally important. However, if a person is struggling with depression or anxiety, it's common for the mind reading to be overly negative, thereby fuelling the depression and anxiety. So there's no clear cut line for when mind reading is good and when it turns bad. The reality is, we are generally not very good at knowing what people think, yet we assume we know what people think all the time. This often gets people into a lot of trouble. So I'm not saying for people to ignore their intuition, but just be careful with it.

OK I had a good laugh and I hope your very attractive still single friend is living his best life. This distortion seems to have some commonalities with filtering and catastrophizing. I'd stop mind reading but I'm really good at it, and my wife knows I'm really good at it. I can tell by her body language and the way she just nods her head sometimes. 🙂

You told exactly what I figured out on my own... But please tell what are the cause behind it...
@DrRamiNader
@DrRamiNader Жыл бұрын
The cause can be multifactorial and is different for different people. I'm less focused on what caused it and more focused on what's maintaining it, because that's what a person has control over.

@@Alphacentauri819 that was 9 months ago im not even sure what this is about i will have to look at it again but based on my answer then I must be saying mind reading isn't a bad things especially due to mirror neurons and the collective unconscious we are all tied to each other in some way what you think is your mind is most a serious of indoctrinated responses anyhow
