Here is the latest on the 1973 Mustang Coupe "Large Marge" in the Autoedit garage!
In this episode we find out that the g-Link Canted-4-Bar Suspension System from Total Control Products for the 1964-1970 Mustang will work on the 71-73 models (without staggered shocks) using a small adapter.
I'll show you the complete installation including highlights of the individual parts and the welding of the upper suspension mounts onto the stock 9" Ford rear end housing using a "jig" provided from Chris Alston's Chassiworks that made it flat out easy...all the way to the final install of the axle housing under the vehicle.
Next up is to find a good posi-traction rear center section, axles and brakes...then it'll be time to set this thing on the ground and dial in the stance!
Thanks for watching,
Jason

Finally a coil over 4-link suspension for these cars. I have a 73 Mach 1. This really simplifies things for me by not having to fabricate the entire rear of the car. Can't wait to see the final outcome of your car project.

Yes, it really does seem like one of the best options for our Mustangs. I'll do a future video to show more detail on the setup and dial in aspect and of course what it's like to hammer on it!

I think you are going to love the feel of your new set up, I've driven a few similar rigs and I was surprised, beyond the usual handling manners you would suspect, it firms up braking as well I assume by linking the axle to the frame and the frame to the body more stiffly. It makes the car much more predicable especially near the limit.

So cool I found your channel, I've learned a lot and have new confidence in my build coming up. I've seen all of these components for sale on CJ Pony and have watched a few instal vids but some of them looked danting. Very informative video! I have a 72' coupe I bought way back, when I was a senior in High School. Am making plans to get it back on the road as a "Best of both Worlds" resto-mod. One question, you weld the suspension cradle to the subframe, is there still enough room to weld Subframe connectors in? IMO every Mustang built before 2005 benefits from subframe connectors.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I went with the global west subframe connectors.

Hi Jason, I recently inherited a 73 stang from my grandfather as my first car. After watching you're initial review I was a tad but concerned this might not be the car for me, but after watching you install the suspension step by step I figured I might as well make it the best it can be. The car only has a 250 cu. Engine so besides replacing the engine (too far out of my budget) are there any modifications to help a bit with performance? The engine is fully bored and stroked but to be honest I have no clue what that means. Anyways thank you for the inspiration to go out and work on my car and keep putting up the good vids!
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 9 жыл бұрын
I think it will be a great first car for you. Be patient and first just go through the car and make sure the suspension and mechanicals are in good shape and learn what that means. Mine was just completely worn out when I got it and needed quite a bit of work and I'm lucky enough to have the space to do it. Stay in touch!

so with a 4 link you adjust the axle centering with adjustable upper links? I have an S197 mustang which uses a 3 link and we have stupid panhard bars Would be neat if they made a kit like that for us

Hi Jason, just wondering if you knew if total control products has any rear suspension kits for a 1968 Ford Torino. I have looked into fatman fabrications which looks similar but I like the functionality that this system gives. I saw that they have the front suspension which I am interested in but I wanted to get all the suspension from one location if possible.
@AutoEdits

I'm with you on the wanting all one type of components on your ride...and I'm stoked to have the TCP front and rear so far. The Torino is a full frame car and after looking on their website, couldn't find anything for the rear on that one but please don't hesitate to call them at (888) 388-0298...I do for all my questions and they are awesome about offering help...one of the reasons I'm a fan for life! Thanks for watching! Let me know how it goes.

on my 68 the part of the subframe where the rear leaf spring mout goes was badly rusted. Later we discovered that the top point of the subframe was cracked due to an acciedent. on both sides. Someone had repaired the sheetmetal without bothering to adress the structural damage.
