Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 Making these videos takes so much time and energy, but comments like yours make it all worth it! This is not my full-time occupation, I edit the videos at night after my actual 9 to 5 job. I could have taken the easy route, and quickly make hundreds of unedited videos, 90% of them in Lisbon because that's what gets views and ad revenue, but that would be pointless. This channel is a work of love, thank you for appreciating all the hard work I put into the videos. There's a reason why I have about 150 videos in total, while other "walking tour" channels in Portugal have upwards of 350-400 videos in the same period of time. 🙂

It seems to me, we both visited Coimbra in the similar time. I left that beautiful city a week ago. Mesmerizing town and the people. I really enjoyed my few periods of time in different parts of Portugal, but Coimbra is definitely my favourite.

@@POVTours sure i did! I visited Largo de Portagem and Rua Ferreira Borges, Igreja de Santa Cruz, Paço das Escolas, university botanic garden, Aqueduto de São Sebastião, beautiful park near Mondego river and many more. Coimbra is the place where time stops in the corners in most beatiful way.

I agree with you Miguel, an extra market in Praca do Comércio would have been fine. It's the centre of the town and where people gather, if the want to they can make a day of it and visit both but with the market away from the town it will effect trade in the shops and restaurants. As some one who has been to Christmas markets in Munich and Prague I can assure you they all do business.

Exactly, Christmas markets always look and feel more appropriate in the town centres, but here they chose to do it by the river, in the middle of a park... Boa noite Miguel, bonita decoração de Natal, gostei das imitações dos cristais de gelo. Quando em Portugal fui duas ve- zes a Coimbra pela festa da queima das fitas. Aqui a cidade onde moro está começando a ser enfeitada mas não se com- para com os enfeites daí, mas trata-se de cidade pequena com poucos recursos. Tenho saudades dos Natais passados em Portugal, mesmo sendo na aldeia era motivo para alegria pela data. Abçs e até o próximo encontro.

Thanks for this little seasonal taste of Coimbra. I will be visiting there in May. I have a silly observation/question. I may have imagined it but there seems to be a large number of optical/eyeglass stores? Maybe you walked past the same store a couple of times and I didn't notice. Maybe it's late and my eyes have played tricks on me. :) I hope to visit Portugal in the winter in a few years. Great video as always.🎄

Thank you for sharing Coimbra’s Christmas lights with us, Miguel. Coimbra is definitely a city for the young. Its Christmas lights-illuminated streets are full of them, no doubt because they don’t go home for Christmas until next month. That said, I suspect that on weekends a lot of them spend the day and evening enjoying nearby Porto and then return to Coimbra after midnight. I know I would - I mean, if I was young. Speaking of which, the outside sitting tables of the street restaurants are no doubt empty because the evening in Coimbra too is “young”. Joking aside, I was left curious regarding why the 7 colleges housed at the same building on Rua da Sofia each had its own church. Do you know why that was the case, or if the ecclesiastical distinction among the colleges resulted in any interesting stories involving rivalries playing out within the walls of the building?

Coimbra is a university city, it has one of the highest percentages of young people in Portugal. 😊 Yes, the night was still young, no one has dinner before 8pm in Portugal. 😁 To be completely honest, a couple of days before I filmed this video I had no idea about the 7 colleges and the churches. It was an acquaintance from Coimbra who told me about it. I need to research more about this topic, but I'm already planning a potential video about the history of the university.

@@POVTours I'm glad you're planning on doing a video on the university. I'm sure its history is very interesting. I suspect that it has produced some notable Portuguese leaders, scholars, artists. and entrepreneurs. As for the 7 colleges, each with its own church, it might be that each college had its special saint. But colleges are also fun, so there have to be some stories that have come down via word of mouth. Someone in Coimbra likely knows them. And some of them are no doubt fun stories. Olá Miguel! 🎅 O que estão a construir é o "Metrobus", um sistema de transporte público de passageiros em modo rodoviário, totalmente elétrico e em canal dedicado. O sistema Metrobus vai permitir a reabilitação do antigo Ramal da Lousã, uma linha de comboios que foi desativada há alguns anos. 😊
