@ChloroPhobeTarantino/ I agree. He "lives in the moment" when he delivers material. Sure, his material is rehearsed. He says in interviews that every single night is different even with material that works. He says that audiences are different even in the same venue. What works on a Friday or Saturday night might not work on say a Monday night. What works in New York doesn't necessarily work in the Midwest. And, he said that he might be having an "off night" where he's just not quite as sharp. I agree with your point. His VOICE INFLECTION IS CRITICAL TO THE DELIVERY. Have you seen the his stand-up presentation where he talks about marriage? Specifically, where he says, "I now know that often times I am using the wrong tone of voice even IN MY OWN HOUSE. My wife said I am using the wrong tone. I said, "what tone". She said, "THAT TONE". 😂 That whole 5 part series is hilarious. I think it's on "Jerry Seinfeld DOES HIS BEST TIGHT FIVE".

Jim gaffigan, enough said. Almost any famous comedian could do a clean 3 on doughnuts, they just wont. Because that negates their own personal voice as an artist. Judging clean and dirty comedy as good and bad comedy is stupid. It's like saying creed is better than nirvana because they never resorted to profanity. It is not only wrong, but very offensive to those who can handle and enjoy nirvana ('dirty comedy') instead of nickleback ('clean comedy')

@@Rev3rence - You’re right. What I always wonder is how he so wealthy (he said to be worth $950 million) while there are other comedians of his era who are way better than him and have produced way better content and a lot of it and for a long time. Let’s look at it objectively - this guy’s major product, you could say, is “Seinfeld” which again is not half as funny or great as it popularly marketed. I have seen afew stand up presentations here and there on KZbin but you can’t even watch much of it because it is not funny. Let’s look at other comedians - I’ll take the likes of Steve Harvey and others as an example. Steve Harvey has done stand up specials (pretty funny at that), he had his own sitcom (Mr. High Tower) at some point, he did a Talk Show, Family Feud etc. There’s a lot on his CV, he was relevant at his younger age and he is still working and producing content to date but his wealth is no where near this dude level. Look at Larry David - he is doing a great job with Curb Your Enthusiasm and again producing real quality stuff to date. The like of Eddie Murphy and others. Jerry has done nothing compared to other comedians of era. And I know wealth creation is not about talent and all but if we use it as a measure of success based on output this guy doesn’t come close to his contemporaries. My take is corporate media just pushed “Seinfeld” to it’s consumers, marketed it as something good but really it is not. I think it has more to do with the Jewish control of Main Stream Media and him being Jewish more than the quality of the work and hence the reason why he has amassed so much wealth.

@@AndyMutua well Seinfeld is hilarious, one of the all time greats, and even if YOU don’t think it’s funny, that doesn’t really matter , it was the most popular show on Television for the last 6 years of its run. +Steve27775 Interesting fact: of course, two people cannot have the same idea at once, so one person had to think of the basis for seinfeld. Jerry was offered the opportunity for a show, and met his friend Larry at the comedy club one night. They start discussing ideas, nothing sticks out. They visit a korean restaurant and start picking apart the place, as only they can. Larry then essentially says "This is what the show should be, people complaining about things" A few billion dollars later here we are. Source: Howard Stern Seinfeld interview

Jerry had lots of input into the casting and talent. He wrote lots of the stand-up routines on which the show was based. Of course if there are two people ONE will contribute more even if it's 49% to 51%. The point is Jerry contributed a great amount to the success of the show.

I do comedy myself so maybe it’s something I have an ear for. His material is excellent but I’m pretty sure he’s had these same bits for 30 years. And even though the material is still good I think he’s changed and isn’t related to normal people like he used to be.

You kind of have to know Seinfeld's personality to get his jokes, (he bitches about the most mundane things, but if you get it, you'll say to yourself "shit, he's right!) otherwise it's not funny. The most impressive aspect of his comedy is that for the most part, it's clean. I can watch his comedy with elders and not sweat...everybody has their niche, this is his.

I always used to think that he just wasn't funny but then I realised that I just didn't get it. It hit me when I saw parody of him and I started laughing at the guy making fun of Jerry's ridiculous jokes about these mundane and boring topics. However at the end of the day he was basically saying the same kind of things Jerry was saying so in a way I was laughing at his stand up. The whole silliness of it is the point; it's a self parody. If you think he's just plain unfunny then you obviously don't get it. For those that don't get it must seem like he's insane because without the style the raw material would obviously not be funny at all. However we all know that he's a very smart guy given the fact that he made the biggest sitcom ever so if you think he isn't funny you just don't get it. That being said he's not the best comic out there but he gets less credit than he deserves.

It's surreal to see Seinfeld in his early 60s. He and the show Seinfeld *defined* the 30s single New Yorkers. Everyone gets older, but growing up in the 90s really cemented that version of him into my brain forever. It's reassuring that his humor, persona and voice are the same, even if his hair recession (and short hair) makes him look older.

I’ve suffered from horrific depression for most of my life. At times, Jerry Seinfield and Stephen Colbert, separately, have kept me from checking out. I know that they work for profit, for money. But still, I sometimes feel profound gratitude to them for keeping me alive till now. Gratitude for who they are, in their minds, I guess, rather than for their actions of doing it on television, per se. At this point, in order to stay alive, I have no other choice but to monetize my pain somehow, if I possibly can. If I fail at that, I don't know how I'll still be here 90 days from now. Thank you both, for who you are, I guess - as opposed to what you do for a living. The edge is near, and the abyss calls. It knows me by name. It always has. What’s strange is the relative calmness. It’s not depression per se, now. Now, it’s simple logistics. Dollars and cents, if you like.

You have to also consider we live in a time when most people hear something and they arent even really processing the information. They are scanning it and trying to read between the lines to find a hidden meaning or something slightly offensive to scream about. There is actually a large number of comedians who wont waste their time on college campuses anymore because of this.

This comment sort of made me laugh... but strictly speaking, I don't think that's the generally accepted use of the word lugubrious. It's a word used to describe the nature of something, rather than a state of being in itself... if that makes sense. A person looks or sounds lugubrious, but I don't think that you would say they ARE lugubrious. For example, a melancholy person could address their neighbor in a lugubrious manner, or a despondent person could appear lugubrious to others. I would even say that someone could be in a lugubrious mood... but they themselves are not lugubrious. Somewhat hard to explain, but I feel there's a distinction.

Seinfeld is actually my favorite show. I remember discovering on channel 13 after WWE smackdown. I used to think it was just stand up comedy cus of the begging of every episode he would be there in front of the mic and red drapes behind him. After months of turning off the tv as soon as smackdown was over. One day I just decided to leave it and I feel in love. It was stupid but hilarious. So thank you mr. jerry for the laughs

Jerry’s so respected and ‘funny’ today because of the legacy he’s built, and everything that he’s done in the past in the world of comedy.
