I watched it from my balcony. How did animals react? The birds stopped chirping as the light started to go dim and the hound dog down the street barked for about 20 seconds. My cat beside me continued to bathe herself. It took several minutes for the light to dim and then, suddenly, the light seemed to totally disappear over about 3 seconds until everything was dark. The streetlights came on. My cat continued to bathe. The hound dog wagged his tail furiously as he sat and watched his people cheer and punch the air as the sun became completely covered. The darkness lasted for about 3 minutes and then, suddenly, the light was partly back. The birds began wake up and sing, just a few of them at first, then all of them as it got brighter. They started flying in flocks from one tree to another. It was like a second dawn. My cat continued to bathe herself. The hound dog continued to happily watch his people. Then it was full daylight again. All in all, the hound dog saw his people weren't scared so he relaxed immediately. The cat was completely unimpressed. I have no idea what the birds were thinking.

I was at the top of Mount Royal, the mountain the city of Montreal surrounds, right near the famous cross that tops the mountain. Totality was the most unreal, awe inspiring thing I have ever seen. It was so far beyond anything I could have expected, even knowing about it all before hand. The weather was perfect, even the thin wisps of clouds over the sun made it better by there being a full rainbow halo around the sun the whole time. There was a 360° sunset surrounding the entire island. The corona was so much bigger than I expected, and planets began to shine around the sun. People cheered and people cried. Cheered even more when the sun came back. I understand more than ever now why ancient peoples were terrified!! Even knowing exactly what was happening the eerie sense as the sky grew darker and darker, and not at ALL like it does at sunset, the colour of the light was just so different, was pervasive. Absolutely incredible, and I am so grateful to have had this experience. Oddly there weren't even all that many people where I was, I expected it to be absolutely packed!! But somehow it was mostly the stoners, witches, and photographers who knew to come to this spot. Truly unreal and glorious.

My dogs definitely have a night time routine! He had billions in assets, but because of rising interest rates, the carousel broke down and he wasn’t liquid enough to cover the increased costs of servicing his debt. In the case of Trump, he probably is liquid enough to survive, because most of his business is built on branding and selling his name associated with properties he might not outright own. Trump isn’t broke, but he probably doesn’t have billions in cash. He just doesn’t want to spend his own money and is happy to separate fools from their money.

I'm in the PNW, where the maximum occlusion of this eclipse was going to be about 20% at about 11:25 AM, and we had normal weather (overcast and light rain). I was out running errands and didn't notice, but my car did! About 11:15, the car turned on its headlights; and at about 11:35, it turned them off again.

I heard on the radio the flights would bank toward the eclipse on one side then the other in the course of 4min of totality (guessing two minutes on each side). It was a precision maneuver the pilots actually trained for in a simulator. They actually flew into the path of the eclipse and let the Moon's shadow catch up with them. Pretty interesting stuff.

I was on the 2017 eclipse flight on Southwest, and the pilot got special permission to bank deeper than normal so passengers could get a good view. It was magical! People with window seats were very gracious and shared so everyone could see the shadow. It gave me faith in humanity. ♥️

I watched PBS News Hour coverage of the eclipse. They showed NASA moving across the country and showing each city that had the best view. No talking heads rambling on and on and no crowds standing around with their mouths hanging open catching flies. It was great.

After a 6 hour drive. I saw the Sun hug the mood and let out a solar flare. The view through the telescope was incredible. Tried my hand at recording the event with mediocre success. Not as good as my own eyes but lets me show what I saw. The sun even had a spot. The moment was breathtaking. Even with the eerie silence as all the grasshoppers and birds hushed in unison.

I’m disappointed that so few people I talked to actually went out to see the eclipse. I made it a whole event - I went out with a friend during lunch and we just chilled/observed. It was only half totality, but it was a great time :)

My daughter and I tried to make it an event, but complete cloud cover obscured the eclipse. But we still grilled fajitas, veggies, made tortillas and salsa, rice and beans, drank a Modelo Negra. Here in Pennsylvania, we were set to see an almost total eclipse, being not far from the totality area. Yet the clouds were so thick, you couldn’t even tell where the sun was! I was sorely disappointed. Been looking forward to this for months! Very heartbroken tonight. ☹️

Sadly, I had to watch it on TV too (I'm in Scotland). I followed the footage as it crossed the US. It was very jarring though....I thought people would stand in silent awe at it, and be mesmerised, but It was just noisy whooping and shouting, plus a news person interviewing people DURING the event! Really annoying!
