I get a lot of great questions on my Cold Plunging experiences, and my goal is to help answer all of those questions. In this video I am going to attempt to answer the questions on the differences between cold plunging laying down, in a trough or tub, vs cold plunging upright, or squatting into a cold plunge or ice barrel. Both have incredible benefits and cold water therapy is excellent no matter how you perform it. Enjoy! Hey brother, found you months ago searching for DIY cold plunge on my ice barrel. Great content from a brother in Christ. Love it! Question: if you had to do it all over again would you still do DIY or buy the penguin complete set-up for the Ice Barrel? Finally ready to pull the trigger and for almost the same cost I can have one that is designed for it. Just wanted some real advice from a guy who's been there. Thanks.

@@jonwhistance7732 Thats still a gamble, every one who has reached out to me about the smaller chiller and tried it has been disappointed and returned it. Better to go with the 1/2 or higher for sure, just to be safe.

Love your stuff! Built your ice barrel setup I’m loving it. Little over a dozen in and I’m down to low 40s in 3-4 min sessions. What’s your take on toe caps and neoprene socks? The first couple I did “raw” with actual ice were brutal on the hands and feet. Taking a page from my cryo experiences I figured I’d get the toe caps. Way better. I’m now using the toe caps and some neoprene booties and it almost feels like cheating. The suffering part isn’t really there although it’s still very challenging. What’s your take?

Nice!! Glad to hear! My friend, its not cheating, its all in your own experience. I like a freezing cold sub 40 degree 2-3 minute plunge and i equally like a 10 minute chill set in 55 degree water. No matter how you do it, if you feel good when you get out, its working!

I havent been able to recommend the 1/4 hp chillers, its just not strong enough to fight the external temps in the south.

No not unless it's very very well insulated. I have a 1/2 horse active aqua and I'm in Alabama and with the temps in the 80s mine starts to warm back up around 51 and I keep mine set at 43. In the mornings it's at 43 but slowly starts to creep up as the day goes on. hope that helps

Those work too. Just different. No water circulation. I like the aquarium style where water is constantly flowing through a filter and chiller to keep it cleaner. But people use them!

How big of a chiller do you think I will need to cool 100 gallon trough to 45degrees?

I currently have a half horsepower chiller and it does a great job in my ice barrel. However, I have a 1 hp chiller in the Polar Monkeys and then obviously doesn’t skip a beat no matter how hot it is outside.

Both are solid, i like being active in the plunge during my morning plunge but like the laydown at night. Helps me to relax
