We have been watching your travels and I am learning to hike but I am much older than you are but I at least try. I will never be able to do what you are doing but I am so very thankful to follow your travels. Been watching your entire hike. I am a gastric bypass patient and was so glad you shared about the chomp sticks. I am going to try those for my short hikes. I need lots and lots of protein anyway. I will give it a whirl. Thank you for sharing your travels. Stay safe to you and all your group.

Wow, amazing! 😊 Just read Pegleg's post about your 120 mile hike and the hallucinations you guys experienced. They are called hypnagogic hallucinations and can occur between the wake to sleep cycle. She also wondered how she could walk while being asleep. She wasn't completely asleep but operating on "thalamic memory," which is like habit memory. Kind of like driving home from work without thinking about it.

I was camping with a group of guys, and we found a whole camping setup that was abandoned. We were about to clean it up when one of the guys, who was law enforcement, asked us how we knew it was abandoned and not the remnants of someone who is now missing. We got the park ranger to come check it out. I never heard what the result was. It was likely just abandoned.
@rockytopwrangler2069Ай бұрын
.. Maybe just out on a day hike ,,,, I do that when fishing the high country ,, set up camp ,, hike to alpine lakes and hike back to camp ..... Would suck if someone took it down and away ... If concerned , leave a note on it and contact ranger or sheriff ,, but leave it as is ... with mention of who you reported it to ...

Ptarmigan pass is fairly heavily hunted by back country bow hunters (hunters who hunt using backpacks and stay in the back country for numerous days). I am sure that was a hunters camp and although I do not condone leaving trash around, I have no doubt the hunter will clean up the trash when they leave. Great video BTW.

Kelley, Above 8,000 feet it is not the beginning of autumn. It is the beginning of winter. Be aware…14,000ers are not very safe from here on out. The voice of experience.
@nickfadely6794Ай бұрын
Wow...really? That's not at all true. A high percentage of my many 14er climbs have been after Labor Day. They're MUCH safer then. And as far as I can tell, they are not planning to do any 14ers as they skipped Grays and Torreys, the only 14ers on the CDT. I just got back from backpacking in the San Juans and it WAS cold there, for sure.
@minimod7663Ай бұрын

@michaelbailot5479Ай бұрын
Hi Nick. Seems like Kelly has more sense than you. Also seems like you’ve never been caught unaware by a September/October blizzard at high altitudes in the Rockies. Not true at all? Wait until the day you wake up buried beneath three feet of snow and no sense of where the trail is anymore. Having lived most of my life in the Sangre de Cristos and hiked many a ridge-line trail, your advice is dangerous. I should have said, beware of winter storms that can occur as low as 8,000 feet. Not knocking your obvious experience. Experience really counts, and as I said…..the voice of experience counts. Just because you never experienced this doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or isn’t something to be aware of. EST of luck on your hikes, and no bad feelings for your insult.

I'm confused. So you hitch a ride UPHILL from Silverthorne to Copper Mountain then hike those miles DOWNHILL with a light daypack from Copper back to Silverthorne? What then? Do you walk back to Copper with your daypacks, this time uphill (as the trail would have taken you)? Otherwise, I don't get the point other than to lighten your load on an uphill portion of the trail from Silverthorne to Copper. If not, then you basically converted an uphill portion of the CDT to downhill.
@MikeR-ig5bwАй бұрын
They completed those miles, thus in the morning they get a ride back to Copper to continue hiking on towards Tennessee Pass.
@minimod7663Ай бұрын
it's not that complicated, try and keep up. slack packing does mean this is no longer a thru hike though sense they didnt carry all their own gear but most people won't or don't care about that anymore, it's part of the commercialization of all these trails, it's cool she got so excited because got to sleep in a hotel again, just wait till her next pct videos when a drone is delivering her uber eats in the desert
