I did this on a shanghai shadow. It worked well and looked great, for a couple of days then the rust came. Cold Steel coated it for a reason, leave the coating where it is.

Get a disposable dental syringe with a curved tip for the mustard application next time you visit your dentist.

try paint thinner and low grit sand paper/Emery cloth next time you have trouble stripping a knife

I have a sand blaster, Maybe remove the 80 grit, add plastic beads, and blast it. You think that would be easier than solvent? Just thinking it might create micro holes for rust?

I am not really sure, I have never used a blaster... I do know some bead blasts tend to rust...
