You can say that again. But i can quite safely say that Jingles made another error regarding Seawolf; when he looked at it in the selection screen, he noted it had test depth of 1600 feet. later in the video he made a Churchill by mixing up feet and meters. in fact Trafalgar submarine has deeper diving test depth of 600 meters.

Fighting in shallow waters is a pain in the ass, another lesson Dangerous Waters teaches you is that your sonar performance is also affected, so if possible, I always try to stay off the coasts. Only fix for persistent MPAs is to actually pop your conning tower up and let them have a jolly nice MANPAD up their tailpipe, weather it is a Stinger or Strela. (Depending on your submarine of choice :D )

I wish they'd fix this. It's a problem in the normal campaign as well. The mission giving ai doesn't account for: Your damage state your weapons how far you are from the target This means that you frequently either have no weapons to do the mission, meaning you need to return to port, and by the time your done, MISSION FAILED. This also means you may be across the ocean and by the time you get to where they told you to be, MISSION FAILED. It's some bullshit. Doubt they'll ever fix it though. It's my #1 problem with the game. EDIT: btw, the paracel islands are a large focus in this campaign, and they're in some VERY deep water. easily 2000ft+ You can use the depth there, if you care to.

TheSkiingJeep IRL neither does SUBCOM you're given orders to be completed to the best of your ability. So in a sense it's pretty realistic.

To an extent, yeah. I'd be okay with the missions being a little easier if you're damaged or low on munitions. But IRL war waits for no sub so I'd be a little miffed if it was easymode when you run dry.

You can game the weapon state. If you're on a mission, once you're down to 10% of your full magazine capacity the mission AI will give you a mission to return to port and re-arm. You need to expend everything though so that the total weapons carried including missiles & MOSS is at or lower than 10% of the maximum number. Feels a bit artificial but it means you can face your next important campaign mission with a fixed sub & a full magazine.

@@monarchco I am assuming you're referring to his mission failure at around 3:33. If this was the case (I know it's been a year since you posted that comment) then may I perhaps draw your attention to the fact he sat stationary outside of Guam for 2 HOURS before properly getting underway. Had he arrived 2 hours sooner, he would have been able to intercept them as they neared Kaohsiung, provided he went flank speed the entire way, including into the engagement itself. This is not supposed to be easy. He was briefed that they were leaving Shantou NOW at 1100 hours. He didn't get moving on the map screen until 1300 hours. Of course he couldn't get there in time with those 'slow reactions'. Even though in real time he was only stationary for about 2 seconds, each real-time second is an in-game hour. Or put another way, map screen is on 3600x time acceleration, and he should have gotten moving within about half a second to get underway in half an hour.

13:17 The reason you lost the sub or contact S2 is because you are too deep for your towed array to operate. Whenever you see a "0" in front of the LF TOWED, it means your towed array is not operational. Come up to periscope depth and you'll re-aquire the contact and have better solutions on all the other contacts. Edit: Just noticed the depth is 222 feet, which means it's nearly impossible to get the 200 feet necessary for the towed array to function. Boy these are shallow waters. Best of luck in game!

My dad actually worked at EB in Groton when Seawolf was being built. Some of my earliest memories of childhood are from going down to the EB yards when it was open to the public as the first of these (and the last of the 688s) were being built and launched.

Well, vast majority of submarine operations are conducted in shallow waters. Deep waters are in the open ocean, there is nothing to fight for there. It is great that they finaly introduced "other than hostile" contacts, game desperately need this. I may buy it after all. The shape of contact markings on the map is still bugging me, tho. Id like the real stuff.

There are shallow waters, and there are shallow waters. 220 feet is 67 metres, 150 feet, where Jingles was hit, is 45 metres. Depending on the water conditions an aircraft can VISUALLY spot a submarine at that depth. Coastal waters are also fairly homogenous, no thermoclines to hide under or in, salinity and density is all roughly equal.... the list goes on. Shallow Coastal waters like that are a nightmare for subs.

Only as long as the transport ship needed to carry it to the operating area isn't sunk on route of course. It's max speed on AIP is only 5 knots. It is a coastal defence sub not a oceanic sub after all.

No the Singapore navy did not get their Archer class (improved - Vastergotland class - equivalent to the Gotland) until 2010. And I’ve played this DLC. Lots of shallow water ops where anything travelling above 20knots cavitates. Best is still sneaky long range torpedo attacks.

This video made me remember an old classmate's father who was a submariner in the USN during the 80s. He never did say what boat he was on or where he was stationed...got kinda funny about it. People do not really get how BIG Blue Whales are, I have been fortunate to dive alongside them, and they are VAST. Grow up to 30 metres long and weight up to 180 long tons. Jive Turkey was getting rocked on this campaign too for the first couple tries, and he's one of the best Cold Waters players around. Just MPAs and shallow water everywhere. Fat lot of good your shiny new Seawolf does when it can't go fast and deep.

It was definitely the Magnetic Anomaly Detector. Loses effectiveness after either 300 or 400 feet, I forget which. You were well within that depth.

At the VERY START of the campaign, you are told you are the only vessel in range to intercept. This informs you that you better get there quickly. Unfortunately, the 2 or 3 second pause you took before you began to move your sub towards Taiwan was long enough you were no longer capable of intercepting that amphibious landing group. You received those orders to transit and intercept at 1100. You left the port at 1100. You did not actually start closing the distance to Taiwan until 1300. This is why you were too late.

My dad was in the US Navy, about 1968-1972, and was on the other side of the underway replenishment. His job was to listen to the calls to make speed 12 knots, 14 knots, 13 knots, 12 knots, and completely ignore them because we've got the food, let them change _their_ speed if they want any of it.

From Taiwan, Yokosuka is about as far as Guam, and I don't think there are resident USN subs in Japan anyways (I might be wrong on this point, but I got an itch that nuclear weapons and Japan doesn't sound right in one sentence).

In 2000, you, Jingles, would be correct on calling the Seawolf the most advanced submarine in the world, that's not the case anymore. The new top submarine for the US is the Virginia class (of which 15 have been completed and launched with an eventual class of 48).

Akshuly Jingles..... the towed array only deploys in cold waters if you have 200feet under the keel (I think this is the same for enemy subs too). You can tell when the towed array isn't streamed because it comes up as 0 LF towed (assuming that they're not in the 30 degree cone infront of you too!). It's okay I've got my coat.

We’ve actually had many many reports in the last few days of players failing 3 and 4 missions when they have to go back to Guam to resupply or repair. This would occasionally happen in the N.Atlantic map if you were at Holy Loch and received a mission target in the Barents Sea (a 1500 NMi distance) you just couldn’t get there in time. But this new map, the distance from Guam to the combat areas (S. China Sea, E. China Sea or Yellow Sea) is even a little further away (1600 NMi or more) so we’ve seen multiple reports of missions failed due to players not getting there in time. KFG didn’t seem to want to correct the issue with the N. Atlantic campaigns although it was occurring infrequently. I think they’ll need to do something about this however as a few have reported loosing multiple locations (Taiwan, The Philippines and some island bases) due to returning to Guam just once!

I can imagine Jingles recreating what happened to the USS San Francisco if he isn't paying attention to where he is going in an LA class SSN. The San Fran ran into an underwater mountain at flank speed, with miraculously only one casualty. She was the remade into the San Franalulu by cutting the bow off the USS Honolulu and pasting it to the San Fran. She is a training ship now, sitting in a river churning water and going nowhere.

If I remember correctly, the towed array is automatically retracted when cruising at less than 200 feet from the sea floor... So I guess unless you are at periscope depth, the tower array would be useless with the kind of environment (which barely has more than 250 feet of depth)

In this shallow water it wouldn't be unfeasable for the MPA to just SEE you...a big long dark shape in the water against the light background...yeah, on a good day you can probably see 150-200 feet into the water from above...

hey i was a sonar operator in the canadian navy !! served on both frigates and your not so fantastic upholder class submarines ;0) it would be great if they offered you some ultra low frequency waterfall to check shaft and blade !! would definitely help classifying the contacts !!
