Great video. As my father, a farmer, and R&D engineer for a worldwide company said once "it's not my college degree that makes me an engineer, it was seeing a whole bunch of broken parts as a mechanic, and on the farm and while building my own tractors from a scrap pile!"

Many years ago I saw a Cole while visiting a friend in Indy who was showing me the sights of the town. It was in a closed shop or museum somewhere downtown but I got a good view through the window. All he knew is that they were made in Indy, neither of us knew how rare they are or anything else about them. I had almost forgotten about that, glad this video reminded me. WYR I'll take the '24 Sedan.

In about 1973 I ran across a V8 touring car in an old barn. It was a King and appeared to have an alloy overhead valve engine with exposed rocker arms. I remember the badge on the radiator said “King Motor Car Company Detroit Michigan. The automobile of no regrets.” I think they were made from about 1918 to 1922. A video on that company and engine would be appreciated.

24 Cole sedan Thanks Jay for another great video about a not so well known auto maker. If you were to ask most people who made the first V8 engine they would tell you it was Ford. Not realizing that V8's had been around for many years before Henry put it his first one into the 32 Ford. All things considered I'm kind of surprised that there's 77 still around. The Buffum flat 8 was a one only race car that apparently never race, the 1905 V8 was possibly a one only produce car, no record of more and no patent that I can find on it either, from a photo it looks to be a L shape combustion chamber. Although this is a first American automobile to have a V8 it was not produce in any quantity.

Hi Jay! Thanks for the FINE presentation on COLE! Their V-8 was an interesting motor! I can't help but wonder why a lot of the early autos had updraft carbs. Even the Miller racing cars of the early to mid 1920's had multiple updraft carbs with LONG tuned intake stacks! The Cole I would pick for WYR would be that racy little coupe! Sweet!

I am actually the owner of that coupe that car was actually a very special car designed to test the new suspension as well as test the new balloon tires which is basically the modern tire we use today jj Cole was very close friends with Harvey Firestone so they worked out a deal to make a car to test the new tire technology. the car was shown at the new York auto show and we actually have a letter from Thomas Edison talking about the car in which he wrote to Henry ford asking them to use balloon tires as well. I have the original title from 23 even though it was built in 22 it was not given to the son of the company until he graduated from Harvard as a gift to him. I know it looks blue in photos but the car is actually painted in the original color of the car which was called tuxedo grey with black pin striping and hand buffed Spanish black leather. Although an interesting side note we have a news paper from 22-23 from San Francisco and this very well known doctor at the time had purchased this same model and this particular model was always made to the customers order and he chose a green alligator skin interior for the car now I would have loved to see how that looked in person. I’m hoping we can set something up so he can film some of our other cole cars next time he is in Michigan I truly appreciate him posting these videos and spreading awareness of those awesome company. Thank you to you as well for watching to learn also no worries for not liking the color I just wanted to let you know it was the original color of the car when it was gifted to the son of the companies founder. I’m very passionate about this company I can talk about the cars all day long 😂

Leyland BMC made a OHV cast block with non detachable head for commercial applications. Also may have featured OHC. These were excellent long life motors and I saw one in 1990’s dismantled in a (NZ)machine shop for valve grind and new pistons. Valve seats and valves were serviced from bottom of bore while crank and pistons out. Despite the motor having done over 25 years use in a road grader then, the owner spent good money rebuilding it to new because of its outstanding trouble free operation compared to conventional detachable cylinder head motors in similar machines. It was fascinating to view this unusual motor, in retrospect, should have taken photo!
