Wow, Cole and Jay, that was a really nice fishing adventure. I thank you for taking me along via your shared video. I have caught 2 flat head catfish in one night on a trot-line that both weighed 25 pounds + - a few ounces and was amazed at the size of the fish. The flat head catfish in your video is bigger than the one's I caught. Congrats! Thanks for sharing you video!

Then one fellow 8' 11", just 1" shy of 9'. Look at Andre the Giant. Where gators, fish, before being settled by foreigners????? I think it was a 12' johnboat I was in in the mid 80's, where there was a dead alligator gar floating and he was just a little bit shorter than the boat. So I'd guess it'd put him 9-10', where I've heard these are more rare now. One fellow told me of bullfrogs in Arkansas around Fort Smith in the 40's, maybe ,50's, where they sounded about the size of small chickens. It's our nature, a feeling of accomplishment to catch monster size fish, crustaceans and such. Then actively pursue them. Where as crops, you have a huge tasty watermelon, tomatoes whatever, you preserve the seeds from to reproduce others the same. Now they play with genetics to create desired traits, which I'm uncertain of. Where there's books written around the turn of the 20th century that told of huge catches. Kind of like here on the east coast, they said at one time, there were a couple hundred shrimp boats. Now I think it's said a couple dozen. Then these were crying about recreational or sustenance shrimpers out shrimping them messing up their market. But consider, when there were a couple hundred, think of all the fish that had ready access to such a population of shrimp. Surely there had to be larger fish and heavier populations. But, I also question biblical prophecies that describe these days which could have been referencing further on or things that already occurred. They just come to mind. I recall in the 70's a couple guys caught an 86 # cat on the Mississippi just below New Orleans. Where a good catch of a big cat. Yet, it doesn't seem uncommon. Theres a guy with what seemed almost a plantation on hwy. 9 best I recall going on Hwy. 9 into Saline, La., where he has fence posts along side the road with the jaws of cats I understood to be flatheads on top of most all of them. I think it was said he fished Toledo Bend. Which Toledo Bend has large cats but so do many lakes in Northwestern, La. Some go out and catched floral containers, styrofoam about 5' long and as wide but a little wider than any other styrofoam containers of crappie in the 80's, where I simply guess having natural structure established contributes to abundant fish in the region. Other states could take notes. Eastern Alabama had reputation for catching huge cats in 40's and 50's. Plenty of them too. A fellow said they'd soak trotlines in used motor oil. Which I've seen used motor oil said used before, but with some things added like anise and devil's dung which is asafetida, a root that makes a resin. Said to catch large amounts of fish. Which for sustenance fishing and hunting, it'd be good to go out and catch all you want. But with a market, it can drive some to gluttony, which others go on a frenzy, thinking only about now. Where they devastated so much everything has to be regulated. Worse, most of nature gives back. Man, he only takes and wastes. Imagine if coastal restaurants segregated good and food scraps from non food items, collected and processed into a fish food that's dispersed in areas that it's conducive to increasing size and quantity of fish, shrimp and such. Returning to the oceans and other areas. Only thing, if marine life benefitted, thered be those that'd insist on raping the oceans and rivers. , Pardon me I got on a domino effect. Which it'd probably be good if commercial fisheries are reduced by attrition where those that are can stay, but not allow any new ones. Where sustenance fishing can have larger catches. Allow the oceans to out produce what fisheries take. Where our young people get informed, where something better is left for grandchildren and those after. I'm kind of a Johnny's Appleseed. As all these pipelines where they're cut through woods, forests and swamps. Where they are cut wide to lay pipelines, as ground has to be dug up, plenty of heavy equipment, many vehicles are used. Which now, or was, planes flew these pipelines looking for signs of leaks reflected by bubbling water or discoloration in foliage. It'd be good if Congress mandated that say fruit trees were required to line the inside of each side of the pipeline, as wild cherry as well as other heirloom varieties, along with apple trees and peach trees. Some would cry, oh it'd affect my business, where people would go to pipelines to pick rather than but from me. Nonsense, some on lower income would, which such a person doesn't lower prices to accommodate lower income, they like anyone else would, desire premium prices. The truth is, so many are convience oriented, they'd still buy commercial produce that's designed for their best qualities. As myself, I like naturally good and tasty watermelons that go 40-60 #'s. I had one that spun the scale around a few times. Putting it around 70. But, in my situation as is, the smaller Melons are more convenient. Yet line the pipelines with cherry, peaches and apples, there's already plenty of nuts. Where this could really benefit game and fowl, where we'd be doing what we should. As well as turn the soil, then sow heirloom variety clover, vetch, buckwheat, alfalfa and other heirloom crops that reproduce on a regular basis. Think about it, I've seen pipelines where a fellow goes out and bushhogs, why not sow reseeding and self reproducing ground cover that grows relatively low, is also more colorful which should point out leaking lines. Where as the honeybees, bumblebees that have been devastated by mites, beetles, viruses, the environment can be conducive to a healthy habitat for these, which their presence nurtures reproduction of other plants and things of nature. At the same time, as clover, soybean and others, they produce nitrogen, including soybeans, which will leach into the soil and benefit surrounding life. Alfalfa has deep roots where it can break up compacted soils as pipelines bring nutrients washed down deep back to the surface for use by other plants. Think about it, pipelines are dug, topsoil gets pushed at the bottom backfilling after the line is laid and you can probably bet the only reason it is backfilled is because there's a law mandating it, or to avoid a law being created to mandate it. Which if a law were mandated to do what I mention, fruit trees planted on the insides of both sides, where all that wide open area is not necessary. If repairs are needed, they can remove the trees necessary. Fill it in with companion trees that benefit them as well. A certain amount of area is needed for small jobs as well as monitoring. Then all these ground covers, they'd benefit the soil, as well as remove the necessity or desire to cut, which a company would understand less maintenance and saving money. As fruit trees, it'd reduce area needing mowing. Shallow roots too, where it wouldn't affect the piping, where company types will create all types of drama and make believe excuses of why not, then use other emotional financial plays that can readily be torn apart with knowledge. In courts, knowledge and truth do not always prevail. It's who is most influential. Here again, where these pipelines have fruit trees lining the sides, it adds to the filtering of the air where they have huge engines that run 24/7, burning the gas they pump as fuel, where trees and rich ground cover adds to the filtering of the air as well as pollutants that are washed into the soil by rain and such. Then think about all the game birds as quail, dove and such like that will have more abundant food which could sustain greater populations. Which if the economy ever totally toppled for some unforeseen reason, a glitch thought could not happen, etc., but does, if food is short, having fruit, more game and fowl and fisheries would help sustain some. Again, the companies would benefit, as they wouldn't need personnel or machinery to cut things. Which if you're not of faith, fine, others of faith would readily recognize this as very biblical which it's not just the Bible teaching, it's doing what's good for the earth and nature. From a worldly view, understanding being environmentally friendly is of great benefit, might help remove carcinogens in the air, reduce cancer victims. But this could threaten money made from treatment industries as well as pharmaceutical profits which can be in millions of dollars every year, who have lobbyists up with Congress, which could be a deterrent to Congress cooperating. Cancer and illness is big money. Think of all those in the industry that make good wages that gets spread around local and state even nation wide other industries. That's big money. Whew, pardon the sermon. A domino effect😂😂😂😂.

Incredible day on the water !! What an exciting trip. Hey, Cole... A little suggestion. Have a set-up ready for whichever type of fishing that you are planning. I have a set for each trip; bank fishing, boat fishing, river fishing, lake fishing, fly fishing. For fly, I use a vest with all the accessories. I guess that you've got the idea. Each set-up (tackle box) is prepped for the target fish of the trip but also for any other species that might want to come home with me. If I'm going for crappie and there's a good chance for bass, I'm set. I have around eight tackle boxes, one set for each location that I plan to fish. Right now we are living in MO so I'm set for lake, river, and fly fishing. But when we lived in San Diego, I had a set-up for surf, bay , and deep sea fishing as well. It only took one time forgetting one item for me to get angry, only at myself. And that one time was costly as I had forgotten my reel. I have since made a checklist for all outings that we will be taking. It's worked so far and it has been thirty five years. Many blessings.

That’s a great idea! We try to have boxes set up for all of the species we chase after, but not exactly for specific locations. Organizing all of our Tackle is a tri weekly job lol
