This DOES NOT belong in the list. Norwood was NEVER a good kicker on grass and a 47-yarder for Norwood on grass is like a 60-yarder for a kicker today. I was on the phone with my best friend at the time, who was a Giants fan, and i congratulated him on his championship as I KNEW Norwood would miss. Those are the breaks and I knew 47 yards was almost an impossible kick for Norwood to make. Sad, but it doesn’t belong here.

@georgeprchal39242 ай бұрын
They were up a touchdown, how bout they play defense?
@shemeansdolby49242 ай бұрын
That season was the birth of the 'Dirty Birds'. Vikings were 15-1, Anderson hadn't missed a kick all year, they would have been up by 10 points and put the game away. Falcons were 14-2, and needed just a touchdown to tie. Terrance Mathis caught a TD as time expired, Then in overtime our Andersen did not miss his kick and Falcons went to Superbowl 33!
@TrentonO30002 ай бұрын
Two things I want to note: 1) They would have played an equally stacked Broncos team in the SB who were defending champs. The Vikings went 15-1 but only played 3 teams with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Broncos started the season 13-0 and rested starters after their first loss and finished 14-2. Terrell Davis ran for 2k yards and 21 TDs behind the best o-line in the league. They would have been a nightmare matchup for the Vikings and I think they probably would have controlled the game and beat them. 2) Everyone craps on Gary Anderson and forgets how bad Dennis Green screwed up. Besides being out-coached by Dan Reeves for most of the game, right before the missed kick he decided to throw on 3rd down instead of running. The pass was thrown away which stopped the clock before the 2-minute warning. Obviously everyone expected Anderson to make the kick, but this essentially gave the Falcons an extra timeout for their final drive, where the Vikings kept playing soft zone coverage that allowed the Falcons receivers to catch multiple passes near the sideline and get out of bounds so they didn't have to burn their final timeout too early (they ended up having to use it when Chandler injured his knee on a scramble). Horrible coaching. Even then, Robert Griffith had a chance at an interception two different times during that drive and dropped them both.
@mjmorriplymouth2 ай бұрын
@@georgeprchal3924Yeah, that is often overlooked. Would have made the lead 10 but 7 should have been good enough. I would also like to point out that a few years later the Vikings management phoned him up while he was fly fishing in the middle of a stream begging him to come out of retirement and kick for them again.

Shaun Suisham's 2009 miss of a 23-yard field goal should have been here. That kick would have given the Redskins a 10 point lead with a minute left over the Saints. Instead, Drew Brees connected on a long pass to send the game into overtime where the Saints would win it. Suisham was cut two days later. The win for the Saints preserved their #1 seed and kept the NFC Championship game in New Orleans where the Saints beat the Vikings, if that game would have been in Minnesota who knows but probably a Viking win, instead the Saints went on to win the Super Bowl and maybe all possible by this one missed kick.

As a neutral, the Blair Walsh miss is the best. It was a short kick, but absolutely deserved by Minnesota. If you want to win, get the ball in the end zone. It was super bitter cold. The kicker can't possibly be expected to stay warm, he mostly stands and waits. Ball must have been like a rock. Snap can fail, kick can be blocked. Coaches do it, because it is the least "blameable" decision. If the offense fumble or throws an INT trying to get a TD, 2nd guessing galore. Just put it all on the kicker and you have an easy scapegoat if he misses. Delicous justice for the Vikings in this situation.

I think most people have experienced this, like something you've done a million times but if you try to think about it suddenly you cant do it, because you're so used to doing it automatically. It happened to me once when I was trying to throw a frisbee, which I normally could with pinpoint accuracy and was suddenly trying to think about what I was doing it and making horrifically off-target throws.

Sorrry, but no team got dominated in the field goal (short ones) by what Miami did to FSU in the 1990s. Bobby Bowden was so sure he was already running on the field when he realized he had lost. His facial expression was priceless. What a great sport he was. I would have put him at the top of my list if I had been a little younger.

Scott Norwood is the GOAT of missed field goals. The Bills may have been a 90s dynasty if he has made it.

May as well preface this video by saying that the "double doink" and "wide right" are the unquestionable worst FG's in NFL history.

How can you not have Neil O'Donahue's missed 19 yard FG against the Giants in overtime on MNF in 1983? Or Mike Vanderjagt's miss in the divisional round game against the Steelers in 2005?
