Scatting is all about developing your rap flow and being able to rap over any typa beat
@ComradeReptiloid4 жыл бұрын
The main question of any great MC - are you willing to sacrifice sound for advanced bars? And many rappers can't do that at all for some reason. I hope you will release some videos explaining basics of what makes a rap lyrics good. I feel like majority of casual listeners not only missing out on flow complexity, but most of above average bars go over their heads too. And I don't mean some crazy references, just regular wordplay schemes and double/triple entendres based on surface concepts.

@ComradeReptiloid4 жыл бұрын
@@lolkitchen2208 IDK, rhymes is one of the biggest parts of the flow, don't know why you single them out. Thats a pretty big mistake actually. Too many inexperienced or "lyrical miracle" type rappers go for nonsensical word salad to create rhymes density and their flow sounds stale, boring and boombapish in a worst way possible because of that. That overstretched multis style was cool during early/mid-00's freestyle battles and Grind Time, but it's out of place in "non-offthetopofthehead" type of rap. Rhymes really don't matter if they are not creating sound you are going for. You can make cadence scheme sound good and varied without having complex rhymes. The thing that matters is your rhymes placement in relation to beat, bar, sentence, are they accented or not, etc. IMHO message doesn't matter too. I know a lot of rappers that can have 2 dope message-driven tracks followed by 3 chick or club tracks on the same mixtape. Diversity is the key here. And if we are talking about message than we have to acknowledge that most of the "woke" tracks are corny and simple or downright trash, because music constrain what you can say and how you can say it. For me lyrical means how much wordplay techniques or literary devices you can cram in your bars without sounding bad or monotone. I agree with flow being first. For me its like 60% flow, 40% lyrics for replayabilty value mostly. I can breakdown a track bar-for-bar and then move on, but I won't add it in my playlist. And I won't add a track that dope sonically but has trash lyrics.

Great question! I'll be doing much more videos about songwriting in the future and I'll will certainly be talking a lot about the balance we must keep in order for our songs to be as dope as possible. In short, it depends... It depends upon the purpose of the song. As rappers we write different types of songs which highlight different skills that we possess. Being technical doesn't by default equate to a song being good or not. Tho you may have 40 spices in the cabinet sometimes the chicken just needs some salt and pepper. lol! Sometimes you want to show off the speed of the sports car around town, sometimes you just wanna get in an big body caddy and go for a chill and simple joy ride. Thanks for watching and commenting! Thanks OG I'm glad you enjoyed this one! Yes I've looked into it and I may do a video about it in the future. But I've essentially spoken about the concept of it before tho I haven't referred to it by name in my efforts to keep things as simple and concise as possible. At the end of the day, a large portion of what we as entertainers do is create creative patterns in varying ways. Poetic Meter is one of them which also ties into cadence due to the length of the notes you're creating a pattern with. A good video of mine to reference too in regards to this is The 4 Bar Theory: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqbIpKKBn5mcitU I hope this helps! Thanks for rockin with me OG! My pleasure Kendrick. Keep up the hard work bro, you got this man! The more you write, the more you will find your own voice and personality as an entertainer. Everything we write doesn't be 100% true to our real lives. We can distort things, exaggerate things, and completely make things up. Everything doesn't have to be so serious or even about us. We can rap about whatever we want. Eminem is a great example of someone who has taking these type of liberties with his writing. Keep it up! You got this bro! ✌😎 - Cole Mize

I checked out "White Trash" a few things to improve, very long intro, try adding something that supports the song, enunciation on some words could be more clear, vocal recording could be better quality (better mic) or less eq on vocals. And lots of rhymes but they are all over place, make them more structured musically in time with each other. When coming up with cadences, how do you know which notes to use in each bar? I've watched your 30 day course on cadences. I know about the different notes like 8th, 16thn 32nd and triplets notes etc. Also, when studying other rappers and taking inspiration and tweaking a specific flow in DAW on loop, how do I know how to get their flow. Do I just try and guess where each note is and try to come up with a flow similar theirs also taking into account the BPM?
@ColeMizeStudios4 жыл бұрын
Good question. When copying someones cadence/flow simply put, you must do it by ear and that's why I put so much emphasis on the importance of ear training. Be sure to check out my recent 2 videos I did on scatting where I demonstrate using cadences from other rap songs and much more! Part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXXXqKqraZWahKc Part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2exfnipbN9qhqs And when you're coming up with your own cadences you can put which ever musical notes wherever you wish within a bar. Simply do what you feel sounds best and try not to overthink it unless you're having to solve a problem. I hope this helps you out! Thanks for watching and commenting! ✌️😎 - Cole Mize
