I adore Colin Quinn, couldn’t wait to click. His segment with Jerry Seinfeld on Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is one of my favorites. So NY. Thanks for having him on. Accent note: within NYC, there are variations on the borough accents by ethnic group. They may sound similar, but they’re not the same. Being from Brooklyn, I can attest that Yiddish-inflected Brooklynese is different from Italian-inflected Brooklynese, Irish-inflected Brooklynese, Puerto Rican-inflected Brooklynese, etc. Same in the other boroughs. It’s very subtle, but it’s there. PLEASE get Chris Rock on, especially to discuss his NVLD diagnosis and what that’s meant for him. ❤️❤️❤️

I follow these so closely, the way you dig into what needs to be pulled out and released from all of your 'guests' is so fantastic! Fellow 70's born kid (78) and after seeing you in the early work I have always been so much more impressed with your achievements sans Hollywood... Thanks so much for being the beautiful human being that you are and for sharing all of this with us

Stand up comedy has been my go-to through depression too 🙂 It's real. It's raw. Most of the time, you can relate. And...laughter IS the best medicine when you're not sure if you're still capable of doing so.

Fun episode! Jonathan's camera is so HD, and he's just so cute! I love the triple camera view when everyone's laughing. Also, because accents are mentioned, it made me notice Jonathan's accent, and yup, also cute! Mayim's just having a blast meeting each person that comes on the podcast! It's great so see her enjoying each interaction, it's contagious!

I saved the clip that starts at 51:13 months ago. I went back to it after restarting therapy and I just balled 😢. I believe everything happens for a reason and I needed to hear it again at the right time. Mayim you have such insight and yes you are educated but so much more is from experiences you have had - you find a way to be vulnerable and share these tidbits with us those are the places that keep making a difference at least in my life. This was a hysterical episode Colin is sooo funny. How there is such a deep snippet in all of these belly laughs it sneaks up on you.

“One of the most beloved voices in podcast world”! That’s it, Jonathan! So true! And not “only in your podcast” as you’s suggested. Your “VOICE”, as much your physical and your intellectual one (literary license here) IS one of the most valued and beloved, only bc you earned it! Or maybe you’re learning too fast to diminish yourself from an also beloved “late bloomer” lady near you? 😉💜💜 Such indredibly good episode, again! TNX!

You both constantly nail it over and over. You bring people on the other side of life to a human level. As we all are and they are and it’s beautiful. And yes I completely agree with mimicking speak patterns, it happens it’s real. From a non nerd trades guy that loves your show, apprentices and there Journey man or Master partners bled together…. It a trade thing.
@firewheels902 жыл бұрын
Jonathan said at the end we mimic the people around us. I was born in Massachusetts, but moved to Florida when I was three. I don't have the stereotypical accent. When I'm near my family that does have that accent, I play around and "try on" the accent, and my immediate family calls it fake. Jeez, I'm just trying to have a little fun.

a couple of quotes came to mind while listening to today's chat.. "Boredom is like dying, but very, very, very slowly.." (author Alison Armstrong recalling of what her son told her once about how he was feeling) "Comedy? It's something extremely serious. The contrary of comedy is not tragic, but indifferent." (by author Stefano Benni)

Great dialigue. I agree w/ the Purgatory part. Best to surrender to the purgatives here, & grieve mistakes & grow, than avoid it all till you've died. Older people are often in a hard Purgatory. My parents went thru theirs & i volunteered to go with them. It was brutal, but they died as beatific beings, & i grieved the rest of my way thru that atomizing purgatory, & came out of it as transformed as Scrooge. I now have an empathy toward people & trees & animals, mean folks & even "45," & want suffering for nobody. Before Purgatory trip, i was angry at humans & wanted big polluters, political gangsters & Fox news liars to go to hell. Now i know they're IN hell, & need a path out.

This is the first interview I am having a difficult time making it through. From his bad attitude childhood to his cluelessness about the relative struggles of female comedians, I just felt like Colin had so little to offer in the way of mental health. I drank and it unlocked the real me! Not helpful. Comedy got me lots of dates! Well good for you. “Things happen.” That seems to be his message. Not helpful.
@choosecarefully4082 жыл бұрын
"Things happen" is like The Weakest... No one said about Hitler or Stalin "things happen." No one says this when it's _their_ loved ones who get harmed by the things that happen. He's still hiding stuff.
@darklord2202 жыл бұрын
Things do, in fact, happen. He is an older Irish guy raised in that catholic tradition. You're not gonna get modern day mental health advice from someone like this, and you'd be a fool to look for it in him.
@AmandainGeorgia2 жыл бұрын
@@darklord220 I suppose someone should have mentioned that to Mayim before she booked him, then, eh?
@dianegraber93332 жыл бұрын
@@AmandainGeorgia I so agree w you ..he is clearly scattered, seldom finishes a sentence, a thought.. ‘like’ is soooo darn overused - which is annoying! It seems as if M is even struggling to guide him toward topics he might be able to manage in order to fill the podcast. I imagine she was exhausted by the end.. just sayin’ - we’ll never know!

Probably because she has this j cohen on the show from Toronto, . He is a liar and a con man involved with shady stuff. He has leeched on to Mayim who pays him for this podcast and who knows what else. not all from Toronto are liars and leeches.

Try experiment ask cohen to take a short (months or more) break to try new some tweak Like temp sidekick. He can help but not get paid. As his other business are failures, check the reaction. It's hard not to trust but knowing if you are only wanted for financial support is better learned early. You are a great honest compassionate person for real, but he talks a meandering game that almost sounds like something real but if looked at is mostly buzz words and nonsense
