alas I haven't seen a single episode, since I am from Spain and afaik no episode has been broadcast here, but I get a little here and there listening to this show, which I started to know more after the last dance (although I had seen the occasional show where Colin talked about Jordan and why he sells so many shoes and stuff like that), and also watching youtube videos from espn, for the most part

The last two episodes gave more insights into his super athletic mindset. He never entertained failure, or negative potentials. MJ focused on his goals and went at it. . A powerful lesson for humanity - let alone other athletes.

But the Bulls did Jordan a favor he wouldn't be considered the GOAT if he lost in the finals, or missed the playoffs without Pippen and Phil. So they ended it. It wasn't like the Bulls were still in their primes. They were old! They had a nice run but it was OVER

@@yungslic5363 I don't think he considers that a favor given that he returned to the Wizards years later despite a perfect Finals exit. He wouldn't have come back to the Bulls w/o Pippen & Phil. And who knows if Krause could've improved the roster under that core? Plus, it was a shortened season. Hence, it's not hard to imagine why the defending champs were still itching to compete.

chris Bronson naw I would entertain any bodies argument for Kareem, Kobe, Russel, Magic, Wilt, Oscar, except for lebron. I just can’t listen to an argument for a guy who has a losing record in the finals, or lost the finals with a super team multiple times. Yea his career numbers will be better than anyone’s when all said and done except for his finals record and lack of defensive attributes. In my opinion all of the other guys showed absolute dominance through their entire careers in every category of personal and team accolades. Lebron is an all time great don’t get me wrong on that. He is the second best small forward behind Larry bird in my opinion, but there can never be another MJ. You are right though it is an objective thing, but when over 65% of his peers say he is the best they have ever seen that’s all I need to hear. Because my opinion is that of a fan not of a pro ball player or coach. Those are the opinions that matter most.

Pippen’s old teammate-turned Bulls GM John Paxson hooked him up with a two-year, $10.3 million contract with Chicago in 2003 when he was 37 and 38, his best years long behind him and a shell of his former self. The 5 mil a year was an overpay for the level of production he was offering in the twilight of his career, he only played in 23 games in the last year before he retired, but it was nowhere near 20 mil. OP needs to get his head checked.

I like Colin's take, and I agree overall that leaving likely helped Jordan's legacy. However you also need to note that 99 Spurs couldn't guard Michael, and neither 99 Robinson or 99 Duncan are prime versions of either. They took the Knicks in 5, big deal - Spurs didn't make the Finals again for 4 years following this season. Scottie and Phil Jackson weren't staying regardless, but if they did, reigning champ Bulls would've had a great chance at the title in a shortened 1999 season.

Here’s some positives about Pip that ‘The Last Dance’ ignored: 1. MJ won 0 playoff series until Pip’s rookie year. 2. Pippen was 3rd in MVP voting in 94 3. Pip was the 94 All-Star MVP 4. Pip played 42 minutes in the ‘Migraine Game’ 5. Hue Hollins horrible foul call on Pip vs Hubert Davis in the 94 Playoffs 6. Pip’s game winning/back breaking dunk to eliminate the Bullets in 97 Why did ‘The Last Dance’ leave all this out while putting the microscope on all of Pippen's worst moments?

I've said this about those Bulls for years. They won in 1998 but also aged during that postseason right before our eyes. Jordan supposed everyone would agree to one more year, but that's an awfully big if from Pippen. He'd been underpaid for years, had a bad back and was 33. He had his 6 rings and that was his last realistic chance for a big payday. Rodman was pretty much done after that. He tried a few brief stints with LAL and Dallas, but his productive days were over.

I don't believe there was any realistic way Pippen comes back for 1999, but even if he did, the Bulls were as likely to run out of gas as win again.

I’ve honestly never thought of the “leader athlete” like that before, but Colin is spot on. Lots of elite talented players don’t have the mental makeup to be a leader, but that’s OKAY. That’s why Pippen is as good of a “Robin” as the sport has seen. MJ will always be Batman.

Maybe I am seeing something different or based on my view. To me, this does not make Scotty Pippen look bad and it is surprising how most people elevate the “not great” moments and clearly overshadow all the strength the documentary showed of Scotty Pippen. 1) Jordan says “You cannot mention Michael Jordan without saying Scotty Pippen”, “There would not have been 6 championships without Scotty Pippen”, “…this is why I consider Scotty Pippen the best person I have ever played with.” and more. 2) In the 7th game in Utah, Scotty could barely run/walk due to back pains and still put himself back in the game, if only to be a decoy. A disable Scotty Pippen was better than a fully healthy ANYONE ELSE on the team to be o the floor. I saw his strength and determination to do whatever he could to get the win despite the pain. 3) Outside of the late surgery, Scotty Pippen played to his fullest capability when on the floor despite being grossly disrespected with his salary. He still competed to win even though it was not fair. How many years again? Thank you. 4) Everyone that spoke about Scotty, and there were many, clearly acknowledged he was one of the top players (minimum 5-10) in the league through the years. 5) As Michael, although to a smaller degree, you saw how Scotty came in a strong player and transitioned to a dominate player while at the Bulls…even with the poor pay! And there were more positive highlights… So there were a few questionable moments. Again, just moments, throughout a 10+ year career. This does not, for me, portray Scotty in a bad light. It only shows that he has human moments as we all do. As many things in this time, we look for the drama when sometimes they are just facts. Scotty Pippen was RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME and no one can question his metal based on this documentary. No one should question any of the team’s mentality based on what they delivered on the court. Only person that was continually portrayed in a negative light was Jerry Krause…and at the end Jerry Reinsdorf.

They would of made the finals for sure, I mean the Knicks with 36 year old Ewing made it to the finals and he didn't even end up playing in the actual finals series. Colin was in fire in this segment. He hit the home run in minute 6 when he explained the leadership in Michaels life. In a world where we overlook the impact of male role models we see through MJ how much that translated to not only his skill but his resolve and stability as a man. This is why Jordan was not only better suited to lead the bulls than Scotty but it’s also the reason why MJ is a more accomplished player than Lebron. MJ had a nuclear family with a strong father he respected and a second farther in dean smith. Lebron had a single mother who made a lot of bad decisions in life and he went directly into the nba as a confused boy. This is why MJ was stoic and laser focused and Lebron was and still is emotional and unpredictable.

I think the Bulls would've made the 1999 finals. The Knicks repped the east in the finals during a shortened lock out season, led by Allan Houston and Sprewell... Perfect storm for an aging team, 50 regular season games, weaker Eastern Conference. The big questions are obviously assuming Pippen comes back healthy, and happy, and Phil is coaching (debatable if Phil wouldve made a difference if the whole team comes back). But once the Bulls are there, not sure anyone is betting against them.. I agree though with Colin, 6/6 adds to the mystique for the team and Jordan.

MJ’s “The Last Dance” paints a picture of a man built on facts with a touch of class and spice to capture our attention. I enjoyed each episode and even though I have never met Mr. Jordan I know that I would like him and its not because he is a great NBA athlete but because Mr. Jordan appears to treat others off the court with respect. From the man tasked with protecting MJ to the wide eyed little boys and girls of every color with huge smiles on their face asking for and receiving MJ’s autograph. As a 78-year old white man who witnessed first hand racism back in the late 40’s through to the 50’s I think it fair to say that because of sports “in general” racism in future generations will be rare. The ONLY dark side of the documentary is when Mr. Pippin sat himself down and refused to play because he did not get to take the last shot. I do not understand and cannot figure out why. All the players in the film said multiple times their coach insisted players play as a team and MJ (the BEST ever to play the game) bought into Mr. Jackson’s ideology and yet Mr. Pippin chose this specific time and place to refuse to play ……. And get this …. Mr. Pippin said if he had to do it over again he would do the same thing …… But, this is the same man who signed a contract even though the owner suggested he not sign …… Perhaps Mr. Pippin is the real Mr. Rodman.

Colin covered Pippen in Portland who choked away the 4th quarter to the Lakers in game 7 and lost a chance to go the finals. What stood out to me in that series was that Kobe Bryant dominated Pippen who was not capable of guarding him and Kobe hadn't won anything at that point. Pippen often times played point guard because he was a better passer than the other point guards on the team but he lacked leadership ability. Rasheed Wallace was a tremendous talent but due to not having the needed leader, his talent wilted away. When he went to Detroit with good leaders, he won a championship. That Detroit team had less talent than the 2000 Portland team against an inexperienced Laker team. If PIppen would have been a better leader, Portland beats the Lakers to go to the finals to beat Indiana.

How much of those obstacles did MJ bring on himself? A whole lot. So I can’t really say he faced overwhelming adversity when he caused a lot of it. Pippen was not being offered an 80 million dollar contract! Houston did not have the cap space for anywhere near that. He left the Bulls in a sign and trade - a thank you gift from the team to him which allowed him to come into Houston with a huge contract. If the Bulls don't offer it, he would have had to sign in Houston under their cap.

during the 98 season, mj has not been consistent, he has not been as explosive as he has been but mj showed why he is the best during the final minutes of the finals. what the documentary failed to do is it should have given pippen and tony kukoc more credit. kukoc was the key why they won against the pacers and pippen has always shown his heart and desire to win and a lot of times he has been making crucial plays on both offense and defense especially when mj has been off
