9:15 Did a little digging; Safety First Milk Association was a brand from a company called Home Counties Dairies, which was owned at the time by Cow & Gate. You're likely holding a 1950s 1/2 pint bottle, and they made 1/3 pint bottles for schools, as well as 1 pint bottles, likely for the average customer. As far as why it's there, it could either be some sort of tradition that building crew had, or what I most likely suspect, which is that they just buried a few waste items in the foundation because they didn't bother to discard them properly.
@kurero14314 ай бұрын
still, pretty poetic for colin of all people to have a bottle with the words "safety first" under his house. must be some sort of horcrux or ward that keeps the house from getting in some sort of danger. kinda worried if it meant digging it out means removing that layer of protection, but at least he got his safety tie always on him. it's pretty nice find nevertheless. if colin wasn't colin, it's a nice story to tell your family, but this is colin. he has an entire dexter's lab underneath his hovel

Colin, When you do the tunnel to your bunker. You should do a side small bunker. And use it for a kitchen to do your tea and snacks. And with that, you should have an escape hatch there. But not any ordinary one like the others. It should attach to an old well. And use a spiral staircase to go up-and-down from the surface to the bunker. With a door at the bottom. From the surface, it'll look just like an old-fashioned well with a bucket. Just cut the side of the well to access the staircase. Love the videos.

You’ve successfully undermined your buildings foundation. Your foundations elements work on a 1:1 triangular zone of influence beneath the footings. Hi from Vancouver BC 🇨🇦 Love this project. I've been following you for years. I'm also glad you're having your E30 325i restored. Awesome. I had an 1988 E30 325is, but sadly in 2017 a moron in a truck ran a red light causing an accident. Fortunately no one was hurt, but long story short tragically my BMW E30 was written off by the insurance company dispite being repairable. To be honest something seemed off/shady about the situation. Really wish I fought harder to keep/save my BMW. Unfortunately I suffer from severe depression and didn't have the emotional energy to handle a long fight. I had known my BMW since it was new. My best friends parents owned it when we were kids and I bought it years later. I worked hard on that car over 2 years by myself restoring it. It was almost finished when the accident happened. It hurt as working on it had been helping reduce my depression. So suddenly having it taken from me was traumatizing and still is. However so happy yours will be restored. Keep up the amazing work on the tunnel/garage project. Don't get hit in the head again. Take care Colin. You seem like a really nice person. 👍

Colin, for concern of safety for yourself, your family and your property is why I am saying this after years of watching your channel. I applaud your engineering efforts for making your home a more unique design AND as a Civil and Structural Engineer specialising in ground works / temp works I would be seriously remiss / negligent in asking you to PLEASE wear a safety helmet and or some protective gear like steel cap toes. These are not hard to obtain. By law even visitors to a Construction site are required to wear this basic PPE. I would also caution you never to cut walls direction under a foundation vertically without not considering the 45 degree zone of influence and load distribution. The issue of direct cutting can cause differential settlement which is a serious undermining condition.

Even this is a bigger assignment than governments, generally, have proven capable of. Let governments do these things and do them well. Leave all else to men in free and creative effort. ~ Leonard Read Government is instituted to protect property of every sort; as well that which lies in the various rights of individuals, as that which the term particularly expresses. I am a civil/environmental engineer, the natural ground where he is building is clearly extremely strong, and the tunnel will not hurt the structural integrity as he has built it. I'm not worried about what he's building and how solid everything will be once he's done. In the long term, things will likely be fine. I'm worried about the digging process. Having a large hole made and leaving it like that for weeks at a time where there's nothing holding the dirt / rocks back during that time, allows the ground to swell into the hole during that time which is very bad for a foundation of a house or garage.
@anonymousperson6188 Жыл бұрын
Hi Collin. That's an amazing job you're doing so far. A suggestion though; look into turning your driveway into a "permeable paving" one... It could help you make a "cover story" for all the digging you're doing... If you need any rocks, you can look into the pile of rubble you have and start converting it into gravel to help cover the cost of gravel from elsewhere... "Permeable" surfaces allow liquids to soak through into the ground and flow away from the property. This helps prevent flooding...(if the material starts causing flooding, that means you need to pressure wash the surface...) You could reshape the bricklay you have removed into the proper shape that "permeable" bricklay needs before you replace the bricklay on your driveway...🙏

Cow and Gate joined with United Dairies in the late 1950s to form Unigate. The letter R on the heel indicates that this bottle was made by Rockware Glass.
