Jordan Peterson said that it's a futile attempt to try and "fix" society to match your own "ideal"/spiritual ambitions. Instead, you need to change yourself, change your inner world, and this will change what you see in your outside world/reality. I agree with him, trying to pick holes in society and groups of people is a waste of time and effort. Instead, one should lead by example, should be the change they want to see in the world. You can't change other people, you can't raise their consciousness or learn their lessons on their behalf. Remember, everything happens at the right time, in the right place. Why this rush? Why this idea that the world is "not conscious enough" and that we need to do something about it? Who are we to make that judgement? Life just is. Society just is. The level of consciousness development is at the level it should be. Trying to tinker with it is an egoic attempt in itself, because we think we are superior and we know better.
@lynch80676 жыл бұрын
The Last of You I couldn't agree more. This is pretty much described in the Tao Te Ching. All the concepts of right and wrong, good and evil are only social constructs and matters of perspective driven by ego in order to seek for securities and certainties. If you try to act superior by telling others you have a higher consciousness there will always be a counter force, people will act to be more superior than you because it's subjective and people perceive it differently so it's not gonna work if you degrading people and inflicting insecurity. Instead Lao Tzu adviced us to see things in different pov as much as possible, be compassion and flexible like water, change your view, don't clinge to certain ideal. In that way nothing bad or good is going to upset you.

Say you look at it from a compassionate point of view - something needs to be done about it. Take Monsanto as an example. During the past several years they've only created more fuss, more casualties. Sufficiently ''royal'' position in the ''market'' (more of a poker table) allows them to continue their cycle of bullsh*t. Now, if we manage to take responsibility of our actions, individually it seems a very heavy, if not impossible task to take on the problem so to say and be the ''leader''. It's a risky game to say the least. However, by thinking in terms of the collective we naturally increase the possibility of making change and progress, don't we? It is the capability of looking at things from a third person view in a way. Obviously, a pole has two ends. You may contemplate and ramble on facebook for hours and hours, though talk is only talk. People need to move their asses and be willing to sacrifice a little bit of their precious time to 'gather' and MAKE change happen. Whatever tool you may use, use it wisely. After talking to a monk a few days ago, I've realised how easy it is put a backpack on your shoulders nowadays, all this luggage that one believes helps him to move forward. Instead of accepting reality, we go against it. We try to be the example, yet the world is falling apart, or so it seems. Seeing through fear, through these ego-driven systems is what we need. And each one of us, more or less, has the capability to do so. Don't get me wrong though, I partially agree with you. Embracing ourselves is healthy. Nevertheless, having a collective sense of being helps you to 'tune in' so to say. I mean, Sisyphus wasn't a saint either. The load of the rock came afterwards however... Share the love and bit by bit things will unravel. BE the love. :)
@billygraaf45476 жыл бұрын
+The last of you, well that thinking is good and of course the base of even going further, but I do believe that IF we do not DO anything and take NO action towards ANY direction, the more negative forces as narcissits and evil people (yes I know that we ALL are also evil, me too, forget that right now) WILL take over,(because the negatve forces are VERY good at taking actions) and that IS how it is now, because it is too easy to just say that "it is what it is" that is not what we mean by saying that. We do not mean "give up" and surrender...the contrary. Live, breath but be aware that every breath you take and step you choose to take (or NOT take) have consequences, It is so easy. You meet someone treating someone else poorly, raise your voice and even if you dont want to say STOP, at least ask why, reason with this person...take minimum action. I LOVE Jordan by the way :-) Such an incredible person. Tnx.

Hey Leo, Thanks for making us aware of these collective ego mechanics. I actually read a passage in Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" today where he spoke about the collective ego. Got a beautiful insight from reading and reflecting on it; when people are emitting egoic behavior, it's possible to experience compassion (and not annoyance) with the simple reminder: "That's okay; it's the collective ego taking place in them, but I also know there's a sane being in there (somewhere)." Just wanted to mention it. As always: I love your insights; you've truly assisted in awakening me to the desire for doing consciousness work toward an enlightened Being and world! Will remain a faithful/committed investigator by your side! Frode

This is just what I needed to see after studying lots of Eckhart Tolle talks. This is next level in terms of spreading the joy of living in a higher consciousness by finding a way to effectively spread the word to others. As we move more into the realm of compassion we tend to develop a genuine concern for the well being of others. I started to brush the surface of this idea of "collective ego" but I couldn't arrive at it to this depth on my own. So thank you so much! Looking forward to more of this for sure!

I've been living and working in China for about a year now and it's quite easy to criticise how the country operates under the communist regime. In many ways it's advanced economically since the 50s and 60s, but this progression itself has faced some backlash with, for example, the president now claiming life-long dictatorship over the country and banning the internet outside of China (I can only watch this content using a VPN). I think just lashing out and directly criticising this would only deepen the problem though and so it's better just to notice how it operates and understand how similar resistance to change is occurring within myself. Then I can live as an example to others rather than preach. As dire as it seems right now, you've got to have faith that change happens gradually, and not expect anything to change overnight.
@dearmeecha13106 жыл бұрын
I love how you explain stuff. It makes so much sense. When you said that someone could stab you in the eye with a fork I laughed out loud. 😂 Thanks for your hard work.
@tusharraje19456 жыл бұрын
Hey leo, at 9:20 you mention the more ordered the system is the more fragile it is, I want to know your thoughts on following observation. For example let's take the system to be a nation - Communist China. It is a highly ordered system but yet seems to be remarkably stable vis-a-vis other democratic developing countries. So if you say that the more ordered system seems to be more fragile, then how is China seems to be more stable and more prosperous compared to say democratic countries like Indonesia or India? Or is it that in the long term Democratic countries will turn out to be more stable and prosperous?
@ActualizedOrg6 жыл бұрын
+tushar raje What I mean is, the preservation of subtle gradations of order becomes more and more necessary for complex systems. For example, adding a few drops of cyanide into your bloodstream will kill you within a few minutes because your body must maintain a delicate steady-state constantly for you to stay alive. China requires extreme degrees of control and manipulation to keep itself alive and stable. If those control mechanisms are ever disabled, it will collapse like a house of cards. Which is why the Chinese government is so repressive and bad about civil rights and free speech. The more a collective ego represses free speech, the more fragile it is. Highly ordered systems can be very stable. That's called creating a monopoly. Every ego tries to maximize its own security, although often this attempt backfires, leading to its downfall. China's repression of free speech and civil rights may soon backfire.
@tusharraje19456 жыл бұрын
Actualized.org So can it be said that every ego by default will maximize its own security as that is what ego does and we cannot escape the implications of it unless we destroy the ego completely? So my question is can we control ego's self preservation instincts from going out of hand and harming us or we need to destroy it completely to escape from its implications?
@studentofspacetime6 жыл бұрын
A question about spiral dynamics. How much can you trust that model? I cannot see any independent information about it, since it’s trademarked. Social science (with its ego :) ) doesn’t seem to say anything about it. Plus, the several founders of the model are not even on speaking terms, which is ironic, given that they have mapped out all these post-tribal levels of consciousness.
@ActualizedOrg6 жыл бұрын
It's shockingly accurate for understanding group behavior, at least up until you start to become enlightened. You don't need independent information about it. You just need to learn it and start seeing it happening all around you. And, of course, always keep in mind that it is merely a model, a handy generalization. Not Truth.
@thelastofyou98006 жыл бұрын
Leo, you should read "12 Rules for Life" - by Jordan Peterson. Especially Rule 6 - Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world - it will answer your current episode. The world will go to the next spiritual level when everybody (individually) will "clean their rooms". It might take a while, it might never happen (as Ekhart Tolle said) but there's nothing anybody can do about it by themselves. I tried bringing my family to a higher level and I failed. The world at large is even farther target than that.

I have never been able to fully comprehend the transcendence of self-preservation. But I suppose that is because the mind represents duality in and of itself. I'd like to note that enormous complexity is not a necessity for ego development. As you've said, Leo, families develop an ego. Hell, even couples develop an ego very quickly. "Us". Sometimes such an ego will be developed by one person and the other will not even know he's a part of anything. When this is revealed, the first person would go through a painful process of collective ego death, or maybe he'll even refuse to believe the non-existence of union.

Ramona If I try to think about it, I may be having an underlying belief that the work I'm putting in isn't doing enough or I'm doing it wrong, since a lack of results was also a story I've identified with for a while. That's a really interesting idea though, so it's suggesting being present when these distractions come up and not give in to them, or still continue the bad habits but be aware of yourself doing it?

This episode was very difficult to watch and absorb, so I split it over several days. The full impact hasn't sunk in yet but I just want to share one thing about a topic you touch on towards the end, the conservatism-liberalism conflict, because it's something I struggled with as I'm sure many others do as well. Being too conservative means you have no heart. No zest for life to explore new experiences which grow you. And being too liberal means you have no brain. No capacity for judging the consequences of your actions. I need to be very liberal with my actions, and build on my ability to do things for the good of others, and conservative with my reactions, and control my ego from going rampant and lashing out against things "out there" which I don't like, or from chasing after and being overly attached to things/ideas that I do like.

I’ve been really working on daily mindfulness of when my ego does things that are subtle but obvious after becoming aware that they’re happening. It’s crazy that so much of my daily inner work lines up with what you were recommending at the end of this video. I’m thankful you have been such a helpful resource on my journey for living this extraordinary life I have. 😇 namaste 🕉

13:52 Egoic (I am this and I am not that) mechanisms on the Windows operating system: * The registry -- it has a definition of the current Windows version and a list of all installed programs * Windows activation and which version of Windows has been authorized during install or use. This is also checked externally by Microsoft during Windows updates. * Checkdisk for allowed vs disallowed states of the file system * System File Checker and its indexes backup files caches * Windows Defender, a built in antivirus Basically anything that identifies its 'allowable' state and makes modification harder

I wonder how an individual whose moving towards a nondual, minimizing ego work with others still stuck in other egoistical or collectivist spaces? After watching your series on Spiral Dynamics and Systems Thinking, and I’ve been questioning dualism... which I’ve been doing for a long time. However, I feel I keep getting pulled down into lower mindsets of groups or individuals within those groups. While you explain this very well, I find there is little here on solutions. The more I see things from a systems perspective and in a non-dualistic space, I find myself getting frustrated and falling back into judgement. I seem to be in a continuous existential crisis here.

Hi, sorry the unrelated question, I bought your book list looking for the book recommended in "the importance of real yoga" and can't see the book being referred to. I know you don't want to say the name of the book, but can someone give me some pointers? What category is it in? Thanks

Leo, thank you so, so, so much for this video. How helpful, how true. Also, I'd also like to congratulate you because you seem to be cursing much less now. Since i am actually trying to catch up with every single video you've ever created, I notice that your older videos are a bit annoying to watch due to all the cursing mainly because the only times I can watch it is when I have my six-year-old following me everywhere in the house, and the cursing is really uncomfortable.

I've tried to reduce the cursing to a minimum.

Hi Leo, do you think there is a non-dual purpose for egos to exist? It seems they are involved in the rebalancing act that is nonduality.
@ActualizedOrg6 жыл бұрын
If something exists, that's because it can't not exist. Ego serves a very important purpose. None of humanity would be possible without it.

I sense that if a wave (finitude) in the ocean exists its because the ocean (infinity) has already accepted it. This is why we must accept all aspects of existence as vital. Would you agree?

Thank you for revealing the Truth gradually. Knowing it all at once would be so depressing. I can barely handle it right now, however I've been following your steps for over 2 years now. Seeing myself now, as part of nature, struggling for life, looks nothing but overlapping EGO systems' self preserving efforts. My Ego is a unique mix of 1000s of ego systems. Freedom has no sense to me anymore. The most noble goal would be serving and preserving humanity? Or all life? Or all universe? What is the largest scale of ego in existence trying to preserve itself? If existence necessarily has to involve ego, than shouldn't we go for serving the survival of the greatest ego possible? Like Elon Musk does with making plabetary colonies in order to preserve humankind somehow?
@ActualizedOrg6 жыл бұрын
No, that is just more delusion. With enlightenment, you escape the entire ego dynamic forever. With your enlightenment, all egos everywhere are destroyed, because they were illusions to be begin with. It's one hell of a thing.

The lining of the bag of egoic tricks: the illusion of vertical supremacy. In psychology terms (used a little more accurately black and white with respect to pedanticism (a not so unimportant matter with these issues)): The self-perception of grandiosity If the sheer human population is not sufficiently grandiose to have taught us our lessons about the true nature of the perception of grandiosity with respect to actual grandiosity, perhaps this time we will be wise with the microscopic miniscule thread of awesomeness that is the actual conscious collective awareness of the true nature of reality as it CAN be seen from an individual perspective. It is my hope that the sheer ability to network so quickly over broader collectives has created by very virtue of the emergence of it from the collectives "out" of which "it" emerges (which includes literally every one), a greater capacity for humanity to understand the rarity of such conscious ability at least in humanity (if not perhaps any other anything on the earth. when put to the slightest effort on the most balanced, and pure levels of perception attainable, in my perception), to understand with practical conscious clarity any way to consciously perceive even a categorical way that we could take this opportunity to evolve. Sort of like a revolution, but with the ability to help others through having actually come to be able to help ourselves. This will shift the median frequency of authentic conscious self-perception up from the truest of dark ages, which would happen automatically and (contrary to chivalrous folklore) not be anything that required external battle or the conquest of anything external. Only internal misperception (primarily, misperception of what these lower and midbrain cognitive functions are telling us individually about our selves to our selves. (separate on purpose) Individually and collectively) especially of emotional states and emotions we perceive to be "negative". That negativity that just can't seem to be nailed down, is only a guide within the self to where one can see with greater authenticity, the error in one's perception of one's perception only. Baby steps while in the nuts and bolts of reality perception. Once returning to "the surface" (autopilot everyday functional mode), just keep your mind's eye open for perhaps any greater clarity in what you experience. Speaking of which, I'm thinking about the possibility of collective consciousnesses as only egos, as you state. I think you may be partly mistaken. Our perceptions of them can only ever be egoic representations, but the patterns they follow will resemble the patterns of the authentic consciousnesses that they likely authentically represent, and are out of our capacity to see them with our eyeball cameras on our faces without having come to truly understand the nature of what patterns even CAN represent to us for us. Try holding that knowledge in these little ol' monkey brains, and the nature of the necessity for abstraction becomes apparent. And if the proverbial pineal gland needed a little stunting because we weren't ready for what it allegedly possibly could have perceived, then that's a damned shame. And probably had to do with some unresolved trauma for the being(s) who would make such a decision if that even "happened". However, adaptations in logic-understanding capacity seem to perhaps supersede another more horizontal-type addition to our consciousness sensors. I say seems, because if it does then it is immediately rendered horizontal (and more in alignment with authentic understanding with far less risk of catastrophic failure due to infantile misutilization through forgetting that superiority is the first step in the creation of suffering both external and internal) It can happen on an individual level without going insane as far as I feel I have come, and how far you seem to be progressing. Namaste With karmic eyes on the edge of their seats for the next episode of: "How in the hell did these monkeys get here!" lol Ok. Onward. Much love, Leo.
