I came out as bisexual in highschool(2002-2006) and it was not ok, I was bullied, was shunned, looked at as a disgusting person, was afraid to go to school most days, afraid to hold her hand walking down the hallways. Im still afraid to show that side of myself because of people being rude, the looks, etc etc. Thank you colleen for the support and words of encouragement. Much love and support.

I came out in 2016 and the same story with me. My girlfriend at the time wouldn’t hold my hand. I was beaten by classmates. Nobody believed I was being treated terribly. I’m now in the Enby closet and it’s terrifying I don’t know why. My family accepted me before, why wouldn’t they now? I know it’s better than before, but it’s not 100% safe for everyone yet.

My sister fell down the stairs while she was 8 months pregnant and broke her ankle so bad that she had to have surgery. She had a toddler at the time. They all moved in with my parents until she was able to be off crutches because she couldn't carry her baby and walk. It was ROUGH on her for sure

I watched the Netflix adaption of the musical "The Prom" the same day Jojo came out. Between seeing such a powerhouse of a teen celebrity come out and be so accepted, and a musical focused on love and acceptance in the LGBTQ+ community... God, it makes me so emotional. I'm also a millennial, and had a hard time coming out as gay. I also had friends who experienced hardships coming out and just living authentically. To see it get more and more normalized is so special. Like you said, we still have a long way to go, but I'm so proud of people like Jojo and so many others who continue to pave the path more and more.

Instead of thinking about it as “taking time off” purposely schedule that 20 minutes alone into your work day as a task to complete and check off. I know you don’t like to drive, but I found a therapist an hour away from me and that drive gives me time to myself. Just go for a drive alone and listen to music. You got this mama! Ily. ❤️💗

Personally i feel like nobody has to "come out"... it's always a personal choice. My friend chose to just show up with a girl one day and was like "this is my girlfriend" and we were just like "alright nice, hello" and she never said a word about being a lesbian before... she did the same with her family and they were all fine because there was nothing rhey could do anyways. Her dad even said her sexuality is none of his buissness.

Kiri Camel that’s really awesome wow butttt that’s still not quite the same as being heterosexual. Ok i’m not saying that any of what u said isn’t awesome or a huge step in the right direction but being straight is still the normal thing and everyone is expected to be straight until they say other wise. So when ur friend showed up with a girlfriend you still had to adjust to the fact that she’s gay instead of straight. The end goal for all this stuff is equality, which would mean having straight not be the default anymore and kinda just assuming anyone could date anyone without it being different. idk if that made much sense but i hope it did. Coming out for me was a really scary thing and i hope someday that it stops existing :)

@@cadygp6491 You are right! What i meant was i don't think "coming out" has to be an event. It can make it a huge deal being not-straight even if it should not. We could start by "coming out" differently like randomly slipping something about it in an unrelated conversation just like a straight person would aswell. Because you are right we should normalize being not-straight, and talking about something as if it has always been normal usually helps. That's what happened with my friend i guess, she didn't act like it wasn't normal dating a girl so her family did the same.

As a mom, you're always going to feel compelled to put everyone and everything before yourself, so even if the day did have an extra 20 minutes, the reality is you probably wouldn't end up using those 20 minutes for yourself, you'd still allocate them to your work/family. You have to retrain yourself to prioritize yourself and understand you are worth it, and that it doesn't make you a bad mom or a selfish person. Suggestion: ask Erik to take an extra shift w/ Flynn, especially on the weekends when he's not at work. Use that extra shift as time for yourself - veg out on your phone, buy yourself another craft advent calendar just for you and do a craft, whatever. You DO belong in the equation, and it is NOT wrong to ask for help to make sure you're inserted into that equation.

The one thing I would like to add is that having an identity outside of family/work is vital to being healthy. If you don't work on keeping your own identity as an individual it could (in my personal experience) lead to a deep depression.

Flynn is literally a mini Erik! His mannerisms are so much like Erik’s, it’s so interesting how that works. When you can make something so perfect, it must be so hard to stop yourself making another! I can’t have children and live with a very painful condition that is pain 24/7. So I can understand Colleens resistance to go through another pregnancy but I wish someone would tell her that there’s every chance that a second pregnancy could be completely different. I know several people where that was the case. But even if they don’t have another pregnancy, they should definitely adopt or foster because they are really good parents- they’ve done such a good job with Flynn for sure!

I'm a gay guy from The Netherlands and when I came out 3 years ago, almost all the reactions were positive. My parents who were used to gay being looked down upon in their generation, were scared for what reactions I'd get. Especially because I have a lot of typical straight friends and I live in a small town in the rural region of The Netherlands. Of course it also depends on where you live, because there are still countries where it's much worse. Obviously there's a long way to go, there are still people who get bullied or beaten up for being gay. A lot of gay couples still can't hold hands or show any kind of affection in public, but at the end of the day I try to stay positive that we are going in the right direction. At least in my experience a lot has changed for the better and I'm hopeful for the future!
