The problem is that there is no way to compete against them if the SEC intentionally prevents a fair playing field by appointing the “impartial” playoff committee and sabotaging other conference opportunities for TV contracts. The NFL would never allow the top 12 teams a leg up on their competitors by channeling extra cash their way.

I am an Ohioan. For all of the people saying Texas + Oklahoma remember ESPN created the Longhorns Network and Texas block the creation of a linear Big 12 Network. In addition, the SEC has 4 former Big 12 teams (Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas A & M).

I will never understand how the ACC has consistently flown under the radar when it comes criticism relating to overall conference strength. They are stronger this year than in years past, such as with the addition of SMU, but back when Clemson was dominant the conference was literally a cakewalk and still kind of can be. Always surprised me how the PAC-12 would get labeled as the weakest of the power 5 prior to this year and now the BIG12 is catching the same slack. Like both of those conference have always been more stacked across the board and stronger as an overall conference from my point of view.

ESPN owns the ACC, too. But that's starting to change. ESPN is so deep on this Big 10/SEC thing. ESPN has openly said the ACC is a lesser conference than those 2. ESPN wants in on this semi- merger they don't care in any way about the ACC. I tend to believe ESPN already has plans for a break-off. The ACC is not included.

Guys, in all honesty only CU right now could hang with any of the upper to mid tier teams in the BIG and SEC. I'm a Buff alum, but we need to get back to reality. The Big 12 is not at all on par with the top tier teams in the BIG and SEC. The Big 12 is on the same level as the bottom tier teams in the SEC and BIG. That's just a factual statement. ASU would get slaughtered by Tennessee or Ole Miss. Basketball is definitely a different story. However, right now, the Big 12 is a subpar football conference. Whenever there is a problem, we have to recognize the problem rather than live in denial. We have to work harder to improve the quality of football in the Big 12.

A low tier team can beat a mid tier team that beat a top tier team, but that doesn't mean the low tier team can beat the top tier team. The analogy I used in the past is that UNT could upset Texas Tech who could upset Texas, but UNT wouldn't have a chance in hell of beating Texas. This year, Abilene Christian lost by just 1 to Texas Tech, but doesn't mean they could be competitive against teams Tech beat like Arizona State or Iowa State.

The defending champions MIchigan are 5-5 with their lone out of conference loss coming against the #3 ranked Texas Longhorns. Big 12 doesn't want that kind of smoke.

About 3 weeks ago, I might of been upset, but honestly, the Big 12 has no one to blame but themselves. The same issue as last season and a lot of seasons for that matter. THE CONFERENCE AS WHOLE, NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONSISTENTLY GET EARLY NON-CONFERENCE WINS. The whole ASU/KSU comment, let's be real. Who outside of the fans of this conference is going to care about two 2 loss Big 12 teams. You have KU right now is running through the top teams in the conference. KU lost to UNLV (G5) and Illinois (Big Ten). You have CU that still has a chance to make it into the Big 12 Championship game. CU lost to Nebraska (Big Ten). Seems like most years, we have a team that losses a non-conference game they should win and then find their way into the conference championship mix. Last season it was Oklahoma State making it into the Conference Championship, with a loss to South Alabama. That is not a good look. We now have no dominant teams in the conference. The Conference Championship is going to between two 2 loss teams. We can keep whining about it all we want, but the fact is, respect is earned, not given. Whoever represents the Big 12 in the playoff, if our conference even gets anyone in, better work hard and be prepared, because if they are one and done, the Big 12 certainly will get no respect next season.

Programs are not inherently good or bad. As the head coach goes, so goes the program. Look at Indiana. They're good now. Desmond's Michigan is definitely not. If you live in glass houses...

That's not true at all. Michigan is having a down year but Michigan is the winningest program in college football history with 1009 wins. Their winning percentage of .732 is 3rd best, just behind Ohio State (.735) and Alabama (.734). That's the definition of a top tier program. By contrast, Indiana has 516 wins and 713 losses.

@jesses5463 All programs that you mentioned have had great coaches in the past. And it does tend to build on itself and make getting great coaches in the future easier. And yes the positive cycle is also reflected in donor support and infrastructure improvement and building a fanbase. But any one of those programs mentioned with the wrong head coach can easily fall from Grace. There is nothing inherently awesome about a program where they are due their wins or they are owed their wins or their wins will magically happen.

ESPN and ABC have tied to the SEC cart and since then they have gained the CBS success and 17 of the Top 20 highest viewed college football games have been SEC. You really think they care about alienating a conference that doesn't play it's top me members in their conference. No Miami/Clemson, no Penn State vs Oregon, or Michigan. Indiana plays Ohio State which is a rarity in the Big 10. You got it backwards and The SEC will eventually leave the NCAA/CFP and form their own league with a 4 team sec playoff with a Dr Pepper National SEC Championship game. I'm a diehard SEC fan, but just rehashing SEC matchups can't possibly compete with matching SEC teams with the high profile teams in B1G. Also, NIL is a net positive for major B1G programs and will be a negative for some historic SEC powerhouses like Alabama, so it's not even clear what the competitive landscape will look like going forward.

Yormark needs to organize a conference pact between all teams not SEC or B1G and secede from the NCAA. Let them have their college football playoff sponsored by ESPN. You want the Big 12 to go into irrelevancy ala Division 1-AA. or the group of 5. Sure, go for it. Why would you want to get the money and exposure from playing top teams? I'm sure recruits will love it too. Take your ball and go home. See how that works out.

This is the golden age of college football. What desmond said was hilarious, I dont understand why that was so triggering. Ultimately that game does not matter that was the point just like how many pointless small time conferences play games to get into the big dance those dont matter either because they are out in the first round.

The Big 12 is 10-11 against the SEC and 6-7 against the Big 10 over the past 5 years. One win away from being .500 against "the best conferences" is some how not competitive. You all just have blue blood bias and half the time the teams are overrated just like in 2022 when TCU beat Michigan to go to the national title game.

1) It will never be irrelevent as long as they have a spot in the playoffs and 2) You don't have to stick with the Big 12.

@@jesses5463 1) If the SEC and BIG10 decide to do their own playoff or something like that, there won't be other conferences. 2) I'm a die hard Iowa State fan so I only care if my team has a chance to be a part of it. I'm not watching either of those two conferences if they kill the rest of college football

What playoff ramification did the Kansas State-Arizona State have? It’s not like either team is going to make it to the CFP. BYU and Colorado appear to be the two teams that will play for conference title. BYU needs only beat Arizona State and UH, and Colorado needs only beat Kansas and Oklahoma State to get to the title game. The point Desmond Howard was making is that a game like Tennessee-Georgia and other games on the Nov. 16 schedule were bigger games to talk about than the Kansas State/Arizona State ball game.
