I'm so happy they decided to push back bvs. It was probably to fit their overall vision, putting it close to SS... maybe working out a joker cameo in bvs etc. I've LOVED everything I've seen already... their confidence in the movie only puts a cherry on top.

I agree. I'm glad to wait if they needed it to ensure the movie will be great. I do think that the funny thing is that people bring up the fact that WB wouldn't say it's bad, which is true, but this wasn't a way for them to promote the movie early(at least how I see it). If they were just trying to get good press they would've "leaked" the news about the screening to more outlets. Of course they wouldn't crap on the movie, but if they were giving undeserved praise, then they could've done a better job.
@definingmoments79 жыл бұрын
SJCookiEzZ No, the screening for fans are a week before the movie drops. No one but WB people will see it before them. Maybe critics/press will see it weeks before release, but not soon.

DaveShmave This wasn't something WB came out and said. It was leaked from someone. What if they actually said something like "RESHOOTS NOW" Then people would be worried, rightfully so. But for them to give a standing O, push back Affleck's other movies to make room for a batman solo... They're not just confident in the movie, they're confident PEOPLE, and the audience will love it too.

john I think the magic of Marvel comics and the MCU isn't the fact there is someone out there with super cool powers. It's the fact that there are many people out there with super cool powers and we get to see how they interact with each other. The relationship between Iron Man and Captain America is way more amazing and interesting than the powers that they have. Being the only fish in a pond full of tadpoles is cool, but what happens when your no longer the biggest fish in the pond... that's when it gets interesting.

Man of Steel has a vivid following who considers it a great movie and I put it on par with Iron Man 2 and Thor 2. I really believe that Marvel Studios movies range from decent to great. No...X-Men can stay because Fox for the most part is doin a good job with them, plus there's no room for X-Men right now in MCU anyway. F4, don't really care for those heroes but getting their rights means Marvel gets their villains too. Doom, Galactus, Kang, etc. So that alone is worth obtaining
@dadarkknight363109 жыл бұрын
Yeah but the problem with that would be how marvel does with villains. That's their issue.
@CustomFitted9 жыл бұрын
dadarkknight36310 yea they've definitely not done a particularly good job with villains. While I do think the issue is overblown, does need to be fixed. Its mostly in the writing department. They usually nail the looks, and the voice, acting, etc. Its just the lack of screen-time, repetitive motivations, and being generic...all problems pertaining to the pen. So yea getting these villains back wouldn't necessarily fix the problem, because the problem is with Marvel itself not the villains they have. They just need to write the villains better period, and they need more screentime. No matter who it is
@DarkEpyon1239 жыл бұрын
dadarkknight36310 I think Marvel's issue is that they are stuck with some of the more lack luster villains. John as much as I respect your opinion Spider-Man and the other superheroes are still special and if you say Spider-Man is special just because of his powers then you missed the whole point of Spider-Man and other superheroes. Hulk is special because Bruce Banner knows if he looses his temper or if he doesn't keep his heartbeat in check he wil loose control of his powers. Captain America is special because if he will fight corruption and if there is a opinion he doesn't agree with wether it's popular or not he will fight it. Finally Spider-Man is special because he is a teenager who is poor to begin with lives only with his aunt who gets bullied a school who deals with a boss that doesn't appreciate him all while being superhero where the people who he is protecting doesn't appreciate him.....and yet he still fights for them if you really think that super powers are what make superheroes special..then Superman is the most special one

Fox and Marvel have each their own hits and misses. Some characters simply do not have the same stand alone potential as an Ironman or a Wolverine or a Captain America or a Spiderman. The characters I didnt mention rely on Avengers or X-Men titles to bring light to their secondary significance, meaning they only matter because they're all in one movie together while the bigger names do all the heavy lifting. Still, we;re fortunate enough to get 3 to 6 comic book movies a year because they are split between Fox and Marvel or Sony or DC or Vertigo or Marvel Knights, which is great for us comic book fans. In the case of Marvel, we cant expect them to carry the weight of the entire Marvel universe, cause what we'd get is quantity over quality. We'd get more Marvel characters spread thin into one movie studio that doesnt know what to do with them. I think although Fox failed with their FF attempt, it doesnt make Marvel studios a better alternative. They simply cannot squeeze in outside titles to their already crowded universe, and doing so would just put them out of place. In a perfect world we'd get to see Wolverine, Ironman, Spiderman, Silver Surfer, fighting along side each other in Infinity War, but it's not. We can just be thankful that these studios have brought us some of the best hits, even with their misses. Thank you anyway.

What hurts me the most about the Fantastic Four situation is that there is so much potential. The source material they are basing this version on is awesome imo and the cast is great. From what I'm hearing, this was just another case of when studios didn't know when not to interfere.

You make a point about the MCU being over-crowded, but I think the fanboys and the general movie going audience are spoiled by what Kevin Feige and the rest of the Marvel Studios crew have done. It's all about shared universes. It's all the craze.
@smlshin9 жыл бұрын
Not as good? 74% sure, but it's the MCU's second highest grossing film to date. I wouldn't call dub that as "didn't do as good." But to Age of Ultron's defense, once the first Avengers film was made, the novelty wasn't going to be there anymore. We've been spoiled by their success so much so that other film studios are trying to create a shared universe modeled after them. Fox with the supposed X-Men & F4 crossovers, Universal with monster films, Sony(before they formed a partnership) with their Aunt May and Black Cat movie. But to each their own.

Eric Peterson Well you could call the movie Doom or whatever. You can market the movie as a fantasy type movie like Harry Potter or LotR. You can show how complex a man Victor is. You can show how he became an egotistical man driven by passion, his love of his mother and him trying to free her soul from Hell. The movie can show him learning magic and his knowledge of science and him hanging out with the gypsies and him getting his face disfigured. Plus we will learn how he became ruler of Latveria. Just my two cents.

However, I would like to see Fantastic Four go back to Marvel. Fox has demonstrated three times that they have no idea how to handle those characters appropriately (and I feel like Marvel Studios, based on their track record, could handle those characters well and handle a simultaneously light, yet dark, tone for the film as well). I also feel like the characters in the Fantastic Four universe could suit and add to the MCU exceptionally well, especially adding Dr. Doom as a major villain.

ColliderVideos Yepp, knowledge is power and I have the knowledge. Sony still owns a licence for the Spiderman movies, I don't disagree with you about that, The official statement was just meant to make Sony look great like your own Jon Schnepp said on your show. Sony will distribute the movie, I don't disagree with you about that either. Amy pascal and Kevin Feige are co-producing, I don't disagree with you about that. However, here's where you're wrong, The Movie is basically produced by Marvel Studios while Sony is financing and distributing the movie. The movie will be produced and developped by Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios. According to the list of Sony Movies that has just been announced, the new Spiderman movie is called ''Marvel' Spiderman''. Any way, here's the link that proves that I'm right: www.superherohype.com/news/344911-exclusive-kevin-feige-on-the-marvel-sony-spider-man-connectionDuring our far-too-short interview, Feige talked about how that partnership with Sony has been going.“We’re producing that movie for Sony and in partnership with Amy Pascal, so it’s been going through the same process of any other Marvel film would, and it’s been great. Tom Rothman at Sony has been very supportive in the decisions and obviously the two big ones we announced this week.”
@ROArecords29 жыл бұрын
David D. Yeah, that's my understanding too. Sony of course owns it, will distribute it and has final say when it comes to what happens in the movie, but it's pretty much being made by Marvel and Feige (with Amy Pascal). Sony probably isn't going to second guess them but they could if they don't like the end result. I'm betting that Sony will give them the benefit of the doubt for at least one movie.

@blackmanwithcomputer9 жыл бұрын
People keep saying that the F4 rights should go back to Marvel, because then they get to use the awesome villains. You people act as if the MCU has done great things with any villain outside of Loki. Look at how memorable Red Skull, "Mandarin", Ultron, Makeleth, and Ronan are. FOX likes to give their comicbook movies a serious tone, and that's the tone Doctor Doom should be portrayed in. You want to see him making jokes like Ultron? If FOX can just get a director like Vaughn, or another director with comparable clout, and creativity, then the should be able to revive this corpse of a franchise. It's gonna take another reboot, most likely, but most importantly corporate suits staying the fuck out of the way post pre-production.
@top10sntributes209 жыл бұрын
blackmanwithcomputer Dr. Doom would not make jokes like Ultron, Ultron had a twisted version of Tony Stark's personality and a lot of Marvel's villains, such as Malekith, Red Skull and Whiplash didn't make jokes. Yes, Marvel has not had the best track record with their villains, but their worst villain in Whiplash is arguably better than all of Fox's versions of Dr. Doom. Besides, this is Dr. Doom were talking about, arguably the best villain Marvel would have, they would aim to do him very well at least.
@usernameusername24649 жыл бұрын
Watch. They'll probably kill doom off in a f4 reboot.
@doomed20639 жыл бұрын
I think its pretty safe to say that Marvel would handle Doctor Doom appropriately as he wouldn't be used as a throw away single film bad guy, but instead a villain that reoccurs during the course of several films. The reason the villains in the MCU haven't been that great is because Marvel has chosen to use the screen time to focus on and develop the heroes at the expense of the villains. So its Obvious that Marvel knows how to develop characters, they've simply chose to focus on developing the heroes up to this point. Doctor Doom would be Loki all over again and eventually Marvel would get to Galactus and Silver Surfer and fanboys across the world would cream In their pants when it one day gets announced.
@doomed20639 жыл бұрын

I get your point about no one being special, but I think that's outweighed by how much fun it is to have all these characters in 1 universe. Now whenever we watch a Marvel movie any character can show up at any time (Falcon in Antman), which means the Fantastic 4 can show up a bunch without getting a standalone. A Guardians of the Galaxy/Fantastic 4 crossover done right would be amazing.

I'm curious about something: you think that we'll get regular spider man movies because they're in Sony's control and not Marvels, but if they got control of FF they wouldn't have time to make the movies. But the next Spider Man movie was inserted into an already-claimed MCU slot. If Marvel got control of FF, why don't you think they would make adjustments to their schedule and space out the movies even more. As much as I enjoy my favorite comic characters in the theaters, I'd rather there were less movies per year if they were going to be good movies, rather than a bunch but some suck.

I have a counter argument Mr.Campea. How can Ironman, Captain America, Thor, Ant-man, how can all of these properties work without the existence of Shield and the Avengers. Marvel has decades of story material that the sense of being overcrowded won't be as much of an issue if they maintain fresh and entertaining storylines that work in cinema. You can get away with maybe a Dark Horse standalone film but DC and Marvel characters are meant to intermingle, don't believe me, wait till they run out of ideas for X-men standalone films.
@doomed20639 жыл бұрын
It'll never get overcrowded as I think after Phase 3, many of the Phase 1 characters (Iron Man, Cap & Thor in particular) will transition into background players as Marvel turns their attention to the new characters they've introduced and focus on them and their corner of the MCU.

The only reason I would want Marvel to get back the film rights to FF is because I would KILL to see The Thing face off against the Hulk. I would even not mind seeing Fox and Marvel have a similar deal for FF like they do with Sony with Spidey. Make it happen.

Getting too crowded??? Why are you making a problem that hasn't come up yet? Marvel hasn't had problems with too many heroes in their universe so don't assume it won't work. We need heroes globally and that works better with more heroes in the MCU
@SovietHampsterLord9 жыл бұрын
Brandon Avery They pretty much destroyed scarlet witch and quicksilver because it was too crowded. Not to mention Ultron had barely any buildup to his character. Do you really think AoU would have been any better if they crammed more xmen and the fantastic 4 in there?
@Tigerfist849 жыл бұрын
Michael Lee I wouldn't say they destroyed those two but it could've been better. Wasn't eh directors fault. 50 mins of movie was left on the floor. It was the studios fault. They need as many heroes on earth as possible for Kang the Conquer, Galactus, Kree Skrull war (if they get those rights back too).

I want Fantastic Four back with Marvel so that Marvel can have the Skrulls and Dr. Doom in the mix. As far as I'm concerned, they can cancel FF. I would keep Reed Richards just for his genius, creating the gateway to the Negative Zone, and working with Tony Starks and others.

I literally just said what you did about the rights on your Fantastic 4 Spoiler review. "I don't think any other rights should go to Marvel their films have too many characters in as it is, why would you want more?" X-Men films are the best imo and they should stay but should only make more if they can keep the same cast.

The Fantastic Four rights aren't Fox's to sell. They still belong to Constantin (who made the 1994 Corman film) and Fox just has distribution/creative rights, it's kind of leased to them from Constantin. So they can't make a Sony-type deal AFAIK
@plypayj39 жыл бұрын
I think Marvel should try and buy back a certain few key characters not all of them, just some like Galactus and the Skrulls because Fox will probably never got all cosmic again in there movies, and I know this won't be a popular opinion but I kind of like having the mutants separate from the superheroes in the MCU, expect Wolverine he should jump universes and join the Avengers

The X-Men actually work better without the other Marvel heroes because then the whole humans vs mutants issue becomes so much stronger. If you have gods, radioactive supermen, etc running around the mutants don't seem quite as special as a threat to humanity. I'd absolutely love it if Marvel got the rights to the Fantastic Four back though. I don't really care that much about the heroes in that property, but the villains would be awesome to see done in the MCU way. Not least Dr Doom who has been through character torture with Fox.

I want Fox to sell the rights for Fantastic Four to Marvel, but I 100% do not want Marvel Studios getting the rights to X-Men. If Marvel owned X-Men, we wouldn't have got a great films like the first one, X2, First Class, and we definitely would've have got an amazing film like the recent Days Of Future Past. That movie was dark, tense, and had a lot of emotion. Marvel wouldn't have made a movie like that. They would have made it too cartoony and too overly funny. It also would've had any real emotion, and it would have been to formulaic like a lot of there films are. Fox has fucked up X-Men movies before, but the last three movies (adding the wolverine) were good. I have no complaints right now.

ColliderVideos Love the vid John, thank you for definitely shedding light on a few topics yet still don't get how MOS was a masterpiece but that's just me I guess, but to me the best example that you could've given was the standing ovation that Green Lantern got a few years prior that's why I was very put back by the story myself. To me, it kinda put a bad light on Gal Gadot and Henry Cavil because they aren't getting trilogies yet Affleck is and hell Cavil who I will agree is a good Superman doesn't even have his own solo movie yet.

A year ago I would plead for Fox to give the rights back to Marvel. But given how much they're screwing Spider-Man up....I'd prefer for the FF and the X-Men to stay with Fox. Hopefully Fox learns from Fant4stic.

First, I really appreciate the mail bag show. Thank you for doing them. Second, I really disagree with John's notion that if Fantastic Four should not be with Marvel. The notion that the characters lose what makes them special because there are so many of them is...odd. I mean, I've read comics and never thought, "well, that's a cool comic, but with so many heroes in this Universe, what makes this character special?" What makes them special is the story being told. Marvel Studios made Guardians of the Galaxy special. They made Ant-Man special. Come on, they could make a great FF movie and they would stay plenty special. I mean, differences of opinion and all that, I just think Marvel would do just fine if they added FF to their cinematic universe. I'm not worried one bit.Fox has more than proven they don't know what to do with the property.

At this point I honestly don't care what happens to the Fantastic Four or who has the rights. All I want is a good FF film and that's it. As for X-men and Deadpool, Fox can keep the rights to them. Most of The X-men movies have been great and Deadpool looks promising. If Marvel/Disney were the ones doing, then they'd probably make it PG-13...
@thekingofbelize9339 жыл бұрын
It really comes down to who can do the Fantastic Four some real justice. And personally for me, it's Marvel Studios. Let Fox concentrate and invest their money in their "mutant" universe. Let them expand and create movies/tv shows for Cable. X-Force, X-Factor, etc. Just my 2 cents.
@jadedragon2169 жыл бұрын
Folks do realize that whether it stays with Fox or goes to Marvel, there's not going to be FF movie happening anytime soon. Most likely around eight years with Fox when the rights deadline pops up or Marvel Phase 4 which would be about 5 years away, and even then, I'm not sure Marvel would have any desire to do FF after the recent reboot. They got to air out the stink for a while and/or rehabilitate the characters to general audiences in other movies before that attempt can even happen. Although I did hear a rumor that another issue with the whole X-Men/FF crossover that Marvel would actually need to give approval for that to happen, so we might not be seeing these characters for awhile.

"There is nothing special anymore" To me one of the most special things about comics is seeing what a character represents. Sure it's cool to see someone lift a car but if you can't identify with that person, it's not interesting. Spider-Man is special because he's the classic underdog story. He's some down on his luck nerd (that is basically an orphan) teenager that no one expects to be this great hero, yet he is. He also adds another dynamic by seeing a teenager deal with these huge burdens a superhero has, and not a man dealing with them. Hulk is special because he represents the duality of man. He is a symbol of what a person can become without control. Daredevil is special because he is a guy that finds redemption in tragedy. The Avengers are special because you see these various superheroes use their differentiating powers and ideologies to get to achieve a common goal. The special doesn't always have to come from the fact that a hero has powers.

I think Fantastic Four needs to revert back to Marvel for reasons beyond the four members. Marvel would be wise to get back the rights because if Marvel gets back Fantastic Four they get back Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, Galactus, Kang the Conqueror, Annihilus, The Watcher, Super Skrull (maybe even The Skrulls themselves), Blastaar, Molecule Man and many more. The Fantastic Four is rich with characters and Fox has barely scratched at it's surface for the past 20 years. They just need to admit that they just can't turn this franchise into a viable franchice and give it back to Marvel for a price. Fox wants to make an X-Men TV show and they need Marvel's consent to do it. Maybe if Fox gave back Fantastic Four movie rights , which is a completely unprofitable franchise for them, in exchange for the live-action TV rights to X-Men.
@kevinducharme70479 жыл бұрын
there would be nothing special about the x-men if they were in the marvel cinematic universe because they would be among thousands of super heroes? the whole idea of the mutants in the x-men is that there are more and more of them coming out from hiding but they are everywhere. super heroes are special because of the stories they tell, not because they have powers and are stronger than normal people.

I think what Fox should do is this. They should partner with marvel in a similar way to how Sony down the line. So after Infinity War is done, Marvel can gear up for some other universe changing event, like Secret Wars, and in the aftermath of Secret Wars they can combine continuities with the X-men. So Initially the Avengers and the X-men can be pitted against each other as each of their worlds come to an end, only to later unite against a common foe (like the Beyonder) and then when it's over a new universe gets created that combines were both continuities exist in some form.
