Missed opportunity to have continued with the Line 18 up to Bahnhof Mülheim. The section from Zoo/Flora to Wiener Platz is your prototypical 70s Stadbahn, with dedicated track in the middle of a wide road. There's also an insanely tight and steep curve going up onto the Mülheimer Brücke, which is a suspension bridge offering great views of the city centre. Lastly, Bahnhof Mülheim, which is good for trainspotting. All the freight and passenger services to the Ruhrgebiet pass through, and as an added bonus the approach to Cologne Bonn Airport goes right ahead, so there's frequent low-flying aircraft to spot.

Quite noisy with a lot of flange squeal compared to the Crossrail trains. Maybe if you shoot a video of that on the same camera, you can make a video comparing the two systems?

Crossrail is an S Bahn network which uses trains, not suitable for street running. This is a stadtbahn which uses LRVs, capable of navigating tight corners e.g. at a T junction. That can get rather squeaky...

That's due to the tunnels between heumarkt and friesenplatz being built as literal underground trams in the 60s. Therefore the tracks follow quite sharp turns which was not a problem for the old trams having single axle wheelsets. The modern trains however have two axis per wheelset wich in combination with tight turns create a horrible squeaking noise, the intensity of which isn't even fully brought across in this video.
