the ice plat lure was not orginally done that way btw, it was much more sophisticated. it was done via drop parties, yes, but it was done in a way where people would get teled all over, to catherby, fishing guild etc, and they would be told to hop worlds.. the final world would be a german world, where all writing was in german, then the final teleport would be ice plat, and the original version of the lure, there was no warning sign to say "teleport to deep wilderness" you just accepted the teleport but 99% of people didnt know you were being tpd to ice plat because the writing would be in german.

Swiftswitch and Swiftkit were peak runescape. The built in IRC client was revolutionary for the time. Clans spamming other clans, people going into rshelp and asking for advice, and the clever bots able to track xp gains and prices were amazing. And also, the ability to chat with others in real time without text limitations was fantastic. Keep in mind this is back when dial up was still popular and you couldn't just jump in voice chat. I really miss those days of runescape and have such fond nostalgia of nights spent gaming and chatting with friends.

All of those potential rumored events were completely possible. Duriel proved the first one can happen, and it could easily happen again. Jagex has spawned boss NPCs in the world occasionally and has also showed the possibility of disguising themselves as various NPCs including Jad. Duriel returning isn't likely, but considering the possibility of being pked in a safe zone, people might wonder.

I remember in like 05 or 06 I was at seers bank trying to buy my first whip and a guy told me he knew where to buy one for cheaper than the 2.6m street value and brought me to relleka slayer cave and told me to attack the cave crawlers at the beginning of the cave to get a key to get to the place we needed to go. I attacked, got poisoned and panicked and ran. Couldn’t make it to the bank and lost my 3m cash stack full rune and to top it off my glory that had full charges that I could have used to Tele to edgeville bank and save my stuff. I quite until about three years ago. My heart hasn’t pounded so hard since.

There was a lure I found out in german worlds all by myself way back in the day. I don't know why, but a cash stack of 100K in a german world would show up as 100T, so you could convince players that was 100 trill and not 100K. Just would type buying all items and if the total was over 100K you made profit, aslong as the other player didn't have a 100k cash stack and recognize the shade that was going on ! Would buy full rune (g) sets for 100k playing it off as 100 trill XD (if you were really smart you would realize in the final trade screen where it actually showed the amount as 100,000gp but half of us as kids didnt pick up on that)

I was too noob. I was around a year in the game and fresh to members when Fally Mass happened. I missed it by an hour or so but people were still scared when I logged in. " "Eggs" everywhere telling me to bank all valuables. I was just trying to mine coal. I loathed the egg people for some reason. I was pretty much filling my ignore list with them. Probably still have "eggs" on my ignore. I remember being a lil more into the game when this event happened. I had fallen for my first and only scam by then. It was some guy selling tortoise shells, at Seers, for 25k and another guy half a screen away, toward Cammy, "buying" tortoise shells for 50k. I bought 2 shells with my spare coins. 1 of which became my "placeholder" before placeholders, and still on my RS3. For this one I remember getting home from work and not being allowed to log in. Checked the forums and all hell was breaking out. I was an adult. So I was kinda chill about the whole thing. I had a valid fear of The Web at that point and knew what not to do. Like never pay for antivirus and don't click on anything stupid or if you are horny. "If it's too good to be true, it ain't" I would rather not lose the lottery, by not playing it, than wasted attempt to win. I attempted to log in and it wouldn't let me. I'm not sure but I think I had the "you have not logged out" message? I went to forums saw people freaking out and came back hours later. Everything was fine. The was no Kalphite King if fally. Heard the rumor ingame not to accept tele other. In all my years I don't believe I ever let anyone teleother me in RS. Idk maybe I let it happen once to a known safe location. Icr.

Jojos lure was also way more indepth a lot of social engineering involved as well as viewing their inventory and he dropped the coins behind a tree so they couldn't tele grab if they did somehow bring runes

I fell for this exact method as a kid but they told us to switch to german servers for the next phat giveaway, they told everyone on the 2nd event to bring their most expensive items to trade them and whoever won would win. Shit was genius. The 11 year old me figured the interface would be the same I just couldn't read a thing. Next thing I know I'm in ice plateau running for my life along dozens of other meatballs who fell for it while my heart is pounding wearing my black plateskirt(g). I actually survived that experience, but's it's only because looking back I looked like a wet sock.

I was part of the first group of friends to find this, my personal biggest kill was 100m cash 50k cannon balls a Santa a mask set and a few other things. We didn’t say anything to anyone just run into fally and cast the tele and people would just tele there. Most of the gp came from bots they always accepted. There was around 7-8 of us at the time and we made around 400m each

Bro try to dig into some info on the corp beast unlim g maul spec bug and the no dmg and into the barb assult smuggle and how long it was going un detected andbthe nmz 1 hada been a insane amount of gp made from them all and try to dig into the dupes that were going on like last year or half a year ago and if they happend before and what all went un detected because some of the times the game was not rolled back ,and times they didint even know what was happening so they didint known to even roll back and try to look into last man standing smuggles when it was first added all the items in there was worth the same value as the item outside lms but then they changed it so they are worth a few gp

I'm really curious as to how back then there were constant "oversights" like this? The Jmods absolutely had to know about luring and how any updated they did could easily lead to it. The telegroup to ice plateau spell had clear, easy ways to be used in luring. How could they thus fail to constantly take these factors into account? The only reason I can think of is they just chose to ignore it and let stuff like this happen for...reasons??? I would honestly love to know, though, how nobody at the time saw this as a bad idea.

5:25 whoever thought that spell was a good idea should've have been fired on the spot. There's no use for that spell besides luring players. (Not so much a problem in the version of the game I play but still back in the day it got me once [technically more than once but I saw it coming and banked my items before it happened so all my death meant was wasted runes])

That's a very good question. How and why did it get added? Without proper safety checks and care taken to ensure it doesn't get turned into a luring taxi spell. The jmods at the time had to have known luring was a problem for players. So how come they put it in? And why? Just so many questions that it opens. The overall impression and memory I get from this era of RuneScape is that the Jmods back then just really enjoyed watching all havoc break loose, and weren't too worried about a little chaos being induced by their actions. Even if it led to luring and feeding the growing RWT problem. Kinda bit them in the backside in that regard to put in chaos updates like telegroup to deep wilderness spells. Even the ancient magic spells took forever to get a safety "are you sure?" screen if you accidentally clicked one to teleport into the wilderness. Which seems like a deliberate "shrug ah well it's the player's own responsibility to not miss click and lose all their items" sort of mentality pretty common at the time - and to this day somewhat.
