Thanks! Western Colorado is very different that the middle portion of the state. The western slope has all of these magnificent mesas and is much drier.

So so beautiful around here Anita as you drove. The views were amazing along Rim Rock Drive and its great that you can just stop off and see the different views at various points. The colour and formations of the rocks were truly beautiful. I agree, the visitor centre did look like it was perched on the edge though hehe but looked really interesting inside. Another super weather day for a drive if not a tad hot. First thing that struck was how well the road is maintained throughout. Being from the UK I'm used to see many, many potholes and imperfections. The monuments and viewpoints along the way were not only great to see they no doubt provided opportunity to stretch the legs. How's the view? I thought he had just come back from having a pee 😂My favourite formations were the coke ovens and the balancing rock 👍

LOL. You are too funny. Well he didn't just come back from that, but he did a quick hike down to a lower vantage point for some views of the canyon. But apparently it was basically the same view. The road was really well maintained and had so many nice pullouts along the way. It was a bit on the hot side however. I really liked that formation of the coke ovens as well, since it is so unusual. Thanks!

I love the Fourth of July tradition you mentioned on Independence Monument. That is a cool story from the history here. But, of course, what is truly amazing about this place is the view. Everywhere you pointed your camera was a gorgeous sight to behold. Thanks for sharing it all with us!

We have driven past here so many times and it is just a few miles off the interstate. Definitely worth the stop if you have a few hours for the drive or even longer if you want to do some hiking. I was glad we finally made a point of stopping here this past summer. Anita.
