Hey Jeff, if you were rated you'd know that IAS has nothing to do with the current wind (17:20), it's all about air pressure, which at FL400 is extremely low. Great vid nonetheless. Cheers from EDDM

Nice video. Colorado One is a -700 though, so it doesn't have trim air or the AOA indicator on the PFD. It looks like you're using generic Boeing procedures. SWA normally uses the compact mode for the DUs so the N2's are on the upper DU for engine start. Start switches would go to Left continuous before taxi. The autothrottles wouldn't be armed at the gate, the Capt arms them after FA "Ding" and throttle burst before takeoff. LAX PDX in a 700 would almost certainly be a Flaps 1 takeoff. Also there's a 2 minute warm up time after rollback on the EGT (5 mins if it's the first start of the day) The retractable lights generally come up after final flap retraction. In the real airplane you wouldn't have the green VOR/LOC on the FMA until you were actually captured on the localizer and you NEVER descend on a GS signal if you're not on the LOC. It's nice to see people so enthusiastic about aviation!

I have Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002.. If you try to land the Boeing 737 or the 747 with the air breaks on, the plane will crash every time.. If I use the air breaks at all, it's just to slow up on approach while I still have good altitude... I like flying the B-737 best of all and I usually fly IFR in conjunction with the VOR at around 1,000 feet, when I turn off the auto pilot to line up with the localizer which is very narrow and semi accurate on most runways, however you get a feel for when to cut the throttles and pull the nose up to land after a few trys. I found the localizer very hard to line up with if you are not flying IFR or you are not familiar with the air port. I don't think Microsoft has ever up graded their flight sim since 2002, but it's not too far from what you see Jeff flying on his videos here of late. I use a Logitech twist grip joystick, the twist I use for rudder and of course forward moves the nose of the plane down, back is up, etc... I use a combination of the keyboard and the buttons on the joy stick. Flight Sim came on 3 CD's which is nice to have, and once they are loaded you don't need them anymore. Even if you uninstall the game, Flight Simulator will remember your last flight and yoke or joy stick settings which saves you a lot of set up time. If you don't want those things in there, before uninstalling the game (unless you have a new computer) you have to go into the game manually and remove all your settings, then uninstall the game. Nice thing about having games on CD's or USB ports are, they are less prone to getting a bug during up loading and installation, but what ever bugs are in the game you are stuck with and you don't need the internet to use them. At the time I think Microsoft did a pretty good design of flight sim 2002 which is still fun to fly all over the world today yet. Only thing really lacking is more big airports. You also can select float plane, and several types of Cessna small planes which fly well and a two engine Beechcraft which is fairly fun to fly too. The only down side to the game is the GPS shows you where you are at, takes a lot of zoom to see runway numbers, and you have to switch to the would screen to get the Nav frequencies and VOR frequencies, but once you are used to it, it's not too bad, however it does pay to have a pencil and paper handy to write down way points, and your frequencies and a rough sketch of your air port runway (such as New York International) where there are a lot of runways so you line up with the correct runway and line up with the runways localizer. Flight Simulator 2002 also has the latest designed Boeing Jet the 777, however, the plane seems overly big for the size of the taxi ways and looks as if it was added on last minute before the game was released. The 777 is a larger air plane than the 747 but shares a similar cock-pit / dash board of the 747. In flight sim 2002 I also found crabbing to be hard to eliminate even in slack wind settings, so when you land you better be lined up fairly straight which is much easier said than done even with full rudder controls or if you use the mixed function as I did before I got the twist grip joy stick by Logitech. So that is my assessment between a much older flight simulator than the newer version that Jeff is using, plus I think he has a better selection of planes like Air Buss and some of the newer companies out there that were not there in 2002.........The other feature of Flight Simulator 2002, you don't need a big set up like Jeff has. I've flown it on Windows Vista, then Windows 7 and now Windows 10 with no more than 4 gig of memory, and you can use a lap-top which is nice if you want to sit and watch TV and play flight Simulator at the same time in your lounge chair and still get a pretty decent challenge.. I just got a new HP lap-top with 8 gig of memory and what is supposed to be their best card via Intel. Bestbuy had lap-tops there for over $1,000.00 but I'm not sure what made them so expensive or special.... My lap-top was $575.00 but until I purchased the card so windows excell and word would work that added $85.00 on to the price, but what I have is a middle of the road Lap-Top computer... My HP lap-top came with 8 gig of memory, (more can be added later if needed) and is twice was fast as my last HP Pravillion LapTop, but the featureds outside very much look the same. The only real thing I hate is you can not disable shutting the screen or closing up the computer without turning it off, it goes into sleep mode right away and there is no way to turn that feature off. So if you are watching TV using a HCMI cable even if you use the TV as your main screen out of a selection of 4 ways to use HCMI, you must leave the lid open, which means if you fall asleep watching a movie powered by your computer on your tv, the cat can lay or walk on the keyboard. Why they dreamed that up is beyond me.. My old HP laptop once you had it set up and plugged into the TV you could close the lid and it would keep running all night or as long as you wanted. My old lap-top ran over 8 years not stop, I almost never turned it off, so I can't complain that it didn't give me good life... I only hope this new HP lap-top is as durable and long lasting as my old lap-top. Other than the case color, the location of the HCMI and usb ports there is very little visual difference between either of the lap-tops, the new one however does feel a bit thinner and lighter, and will handle 90% of all my needs for what I feel was a good price.. When you add up the purchase of a Joy stick, Thrust Master Steering Wheel TMX, and a Hero 10 camera it does not take long to spend well over $1,000.00 on the middle of the road lap-top... Since I'm not in my Den that often, I find a lap-top is a great choice for me vs a desk model and big screens like Jeff has... The only game I doubt I can play on this lap-top and maybe even the one they had there that was over $1,000.00 is GTA5. You need a pretty big computer with lots of memory and great graphic cards to play that game as it's a real memory hog (totally a large game) while I play American Truck Simulator with a Thrust Master steering wheel brake and gas petal on my old 4 meg memory computer or this new one without any problem, however I found the Thrust Master Steering wheel difficult to set up as my old and this new lap-top did not recognize it and I had to go onto Thrust Master's web sight and down load the drivers etc for my wheel out of selections for 25 or more wheels...I was all day getting it to work, and had to delete my ATS totally as the back-up's I had save via USP flash sticks and Steams back up's simply crashed the game, so I had to totally start ATS over again after having a cool truck and all my garages filled with a few million dollars profit, but that also is the down side of changing to a newer computer. So when you back up your Documents folder and American Truck Simulator is listed there, it may run again on your old computer if you are lucky but it will certainly will not run on your new commuter correctly. However ATS has a good side, it takes very little to run the game, 4 gig covers you easy and it does not take up much room on your hard-drive & Steam will leave you down load it as many times as you need to. So I hope this long comment helps some people out there trying to make decisions or setting up a new computer or if you have some old games, most of them will play fine in my opinion on the latest lap-top Bestbuy sells. If you have your heart set on playing GTA5 I think I'd urge you to keep your middle of the road computer and invest in an X-box. What I like about this desk top since I do accounting on it too, excel works good on it, it has a number pad, and a 13" screen, so it's a larger lap-top, but in it's case or your back pack is not bad to carry around if you want the bigger screen for playing games once in awhile or you need a PC if your in the hospital for awhile. I also keep my phone fairly bare boned so I don't chew up expensive minutes or have an on going expensive plan since I have to have internet at home anyway and I can take my lap-top just about anywhere I go if I'm staying some where else any length of time, as long as they have internet.

Nice Flight! FYI Indicated airspeed is not affected by wind as you described, the reason your indicated is lower is because you are at 40,000 feet and the air is thinner. Indicated Air speed is based on pressure altitude that is why real pilots have to make the calculations to True airspeed and why your systems change to MACH number which takes into account the difference in air pressure at altitude. Air speed is airspeed and ground speed is ground speed. Example if you are flying 400kts with a tail wind of 50 kts your ground speed will be 450 kts, if you are flying 400kts with 50 kt head wind your airspeed is still 400kts, but ground speed will be 350kts. Just for your info, keep the the great video's
@ahmedsmart11205 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. Indicated airspeed is calibrated to sea level. The higher you fly the lower the static air pressure gets. Therefore also the density gets lower which is important for dynamic pressure. The pitot pipes measure the total pressure. Total pressure= static pressure+ dynamic pressure. The indicated airspeed is related to the dynamic pressure. Headwind or tailwind has effect on GS groundspeed.
