Colour graded "S LOG 2" footage. Using FCPX with no LUTS.

This is a bit different for most of my regular viewers...but for those who shoot in "S- Log" , it will be very familiar!
For my "Railway Friends" ........
S-Log is a "Gamma" or colour setting, that allows the sensor to capture a wider range of the spectrum, which , after grading in post, allows for sharper blacks and more detailed highlights. My "new" Sony FS-5 has 3 "S-log" curves, so this is my first posted video of colour graded footage, after much practice! The footage out of the camera is almost grey , with all the the blacks and whites in the image, but this allows the user to "edit" or grade the shots to give the desired results.
For those in the know, I'd love some feedback and any suggestions you may have.

Ooh, colour grading! I'm usually lazy when taking reference photos and just use my phone, but it sucks at dealing with colours, so I eventually decided to frag out my old Canon Ae-1 again and now shoot Fujichrome Provia 100f when I need colour reproduction. I also missed a couple of really good deals on Ebay for an old Devry 35mm Cine camera, so I'm on the hunt for one of those. Those are pretty good results though for digital, considering the effect of youtube compression and monitor colour reproduction (too often, lack thereof)!

YesI cut my teeth on film, back in the 80's , and still have my Nikon FE with motor drive, Metz Flash and Lead acid battery on a strap! , Shooting film really teaches you discipline and patience. I am surprised who good this looks at H264 and YT compression , as you say! The lens gets very good reviews and it's definitely worth the price, and for a zoom , gets excellent results. I was curious, but can rock and mud slides occur along any length of mountain overshadowing railroad tracks or do they only occur in specific places? I ask because if the former is true, then shouldn't the entire length of track adjacent to mountain cliffs be protected by shedding? Cheers, Joe.

Thanks Joe! I often wonder that myself! We don't have the mountains down here to have rock sheds, but we do have a few with wire mesh holding rocks back. Gregg 🙂

Thanks very much Ross , and nice to hear from you! Yes I still use the NX3 for all my rail fanning videos, but this was shot with my "new" SONY FS-5 and the sony 18-121 lens. I got it last year and it's in new condition with about 50 hrs on it.The lens is new and is a beautiful bit of glass. I plan to use it more when I move to Stirling and will have more time to shoot "Docco" style videos. I still see your clips pop up and hasn't time flown? Cheers Gregg
