Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

When I first saw the paint colour I thought, no, but as it was painted on the walls with the grey of the toile wallpaper, I thought it's growing on me. Teamed with the right accents it could look stunning. I await the room's progress.

The yellow looks so good in the room. I like how it makes the furniture and wall hangings stand out in your inspiration picture. I think people forget sometimes that the wall color is a frame for the room dressings, especially when the room is empty. I look forward to seeing the final outcome.

Ooh, I love, love, love that yellow! You chose well! We have bright yellow on our front door and it's so welcoming. The little entranceway in our home into which the door opens, is a beautiful turquoise colour so they compliment each other so well. There's even a yellow wooden 'hello' on the wall as you enter as well. 💛 I loved watching the tree guys. What a skill they have! 🌲🌳 Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand

Take a look at the color the The Pethricks painted their new guest room. The color is similar to the one you picked. The intensity or value of color you chose, IMHO, is too strong. The Pethricks intensity of color may be more suited for the intensity of the wallpaper that is in the same room. The intensity of the paint and the wallpaper should be the same. Thank you for hearing me out 😊

Thanks for sharing this bold color…..I love color as well, however, as a wholistic RN and someone who has worked with the batik artists of Bali, the intensity of this yellow is suited to aid the digestion in a kitchen or dining room…..bedroom would not be first choice however. Young children would see the opposite on the color spectrum, but adults would have a hard time sleeping. To my eye it drowns out the delicate toile. If you went with a lighter (like the sacred butter color that French use in the cooking & baking) it would ease the gut impact. Each room in the Feng Shui circle presents a certain frequency, vibration & color which can stimulate or calm for a satisfying & healing sensation. (Actually a great idea for a workshop at your Chateau). Finding out where ‘north’ is located with the position of your Chateau building is a good start.

I had a very dark coffee shop painted in this colour. I hated the colour all the time, but when we sold it, the next owners painted it in the burgundy range of colours. Then I really understood how the sunny colour enhanced the shop. The only thing when it was 40 degrees celsius outside we felt extremely hot inside. Amazing how colours can affect a vibe in a room. I think it's a good choice. A Borletti!! I sit in South Africa and inherited my grand ma's sewing machine. Also a beige Borletti with ALL the many patterns. The rolls Royce of all sewing machines even of today. Mine just need to get rid of old oil. Over 200 patterns. The oil of these days are so bad in South Africa for sewing machines. Mine pack up often if I don't sew regularly. This is never ending machines. Enjoy!! Please show us what you will be sewing on the machine.

The colour does lighten and give the room some punch; which with only one window could feel dreary. I'm not sure with the grey toile, but as a graphic designer extraordinaire and artist Stephen knows his colours. I once painted an ugly, awkward shaped Victorian farmhouse kitchen semi-gloss Avocado green with black trim. Everyone howled NO! until the room was completed. Sometimes leaping out of a house's period is the perfect choice! I eagerly await your full vision to be realized, and you should have it as you like it!!

16:49 to 16:54 & 17:01 to 17:13 reminds me of the saying: if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there does it make a sound. I remember the 1st time I heard that and it fascinated me. While I'll wait for the entire room to be done my personal feeling is that it wouldn't be my choice of color. Although I really like the color in the photo. However, it's your chateau and you see the color up front, and we only can see thru the camera and TV/laptop/phone and if makes you happy that is the only thing that matters.

It would have been nice to make a bird feeder out of the large horse chestnut stump. I saw them make one on the Moon's channel. Looks like the school buses I used to drive...chromium yellow. Bad with that wall paper, lots of white all over the room would help. Check out the yellow that Michael Pethrick painted in a chateau bedroom last week. I painted my kitchen yellow last summer and it also was a strong yellow but the white cabinets and my blue and white porcelain collection helped to improve the look. I've grown to like it. That yellow colour is not too bad or brownish on my screen (an Apple monitor, maybe it translates the colours better?). It should be good in the bedroom, and I'll be interested to see how all the pieces come together. One thing I learned though, is to not paint your dining room yellow if you have silver serving pieces (like a legumier, soupier, coffee/tea set, etc.). It constantly looked tarnished no matter how much I made sure things were fully polished! That yellow reflects on the silver and gives it just enough yellow to look like the beginning stages of tarnish! LOL Sad about those big trees, hopefully you won't have to lose any other large ones! You looked like you had a great time at LaLande. Always good to get away!

I love the colour! I actually think you should do the ceiling too, or maybe parts of it? Would a yellow border around the edge look good? I don't know, but it needs something I think. So great to see the trees being taken care of too! 😊❤

The shot where the big floor lamp was in front of the door, the walls looked orange. 😅

Hi Sara and Steve, it's always nice to see everyone get together. I really like the yellow, it's sometimes hard to tell on a computer screen exactly if some colors are nice or not. You can't go wrong with a Nick around, so welcome Gavin and Ben. They really make a difference in the landscape. I am curious to see what you do with the wedding dress. Nice video. Love from N.Y.

Given its spring in Toronto and it’s bloody snowing I say you can’t have enough sunshiny yellow. Wonderful to see an arborist on site to care for your tree issues.

I'm surprised/amazed at the number of British tradesmen in France. Guess it goes hand in hand with the British/Canadian/American Chateau and land acquisitions. Do French citizens not recognize/realize the missed opportunities? Good on you Brits/Canadiens (and my fellow Americans) for recognizing and seizing the opportunities(Carpe Diem and all that.....)...😊

This is a long answer about capitalism v socialism and different priorities (how one values one's time). We do use French trades where possible, but, par exemple, we have been waiting on our electrician to show or provide an appointment date for 2 months now. That's normal.

@@ManorandMaker It's the same here in Wales 😢 Too few tradesmen/women! Though building friendships within the community helps.
