Volition really jumped the shark with sr3 and then WAY over did it with sr4. It sucks that it seems like it's going the same way with the new game coming out. It sucks that they probably (keyword probably) won't be able to bring it back to what they had with sr2. It was such the perfect middle ground of massive customization and having it still somewhat grounded in reality. Like take the 3 rival gangs for example. The Robin Japanese gang, the brotherhood gang, and the sons of samedi. They were unique in their own ways, but still being in the the realm of reality. Then with sr3, you had pro wrestlers, hacker nerds, and whatever the other gang was.

I played SR3 when it came out and was overall disappointed in the end. I enjoyed it when I was playing through but when I got to the end and realized there wasn't much fun to be had afterwards that's when everything fell apart. The open world was bland compared to the diverse map in SR2 and the npc's were boring whereas the npc's in the second game had as many actions and reactions as the player did. In SR2 you could just stand there and witness crazy moments unfold without getting involved just because the npc's actually had a variety of different ways they can react to different scenarios. Saints Row The Third felt like it should've been a linear game, the open world just brought it down.

What'd I say is that ridiculous things are more appealing in an environment that feels more real. While by today's standards, SR2 is far from that. But the balance makes those over the top moments more appealing, especially in a more relatable world. Saints Row 3 is still fun as fuck, but feels too much like a shameless movie. This may not be comparable but as someone who reviewed Mafia 2 (shout out to trasknari for bringing that to my attention) compared it to jumping into a Norman Rockwell painting and shooting all of the people in it. There is a balance.

I loved SR2/3. 4 had some good ideas, but lost a lot of what made the first 3 so fun by making you a superhero. Half the fun of the previous games was customizing and tuning your vehicles into badass road warriors. Giving you super speed and borderline flight powers really ruined that whole aspect.

However with the recently released Switch port of The Third, and the confirmation of a movie being developed I'm so excited. Hoping there will be something Saints Row related at E3.

Honestly I liked the setting of the game The near future things like S.T.A.G, their vtols, the more unusual gangs, the vehicles etc. They should keep this setting. Also liked that fact that the gang gets derelict by themself not because some new gang got more power. (I know it's happens but the Saints are already the shadow of themselves) It's just feel lile something that surely happens after taking over a city. I just hope they manage to combine all the things on SRTT and SR2 (without aliens and powers,) in a potential sequel

IMO saints row 2 will always be the best in the series, not just in story and gameplay, but also in content and tone, especially the latter. I'm not a big fan of being silly just for being silly, this game to me felt more like a parody than an actual sequel and when I learned that saints row IV had super powers, at that point I was done with the series.

I really liked SR3. I started the series with 2 and at the end, it's still my favorite but SR3 holds a special place in my memories. Especially taking that penthouse while Power plays. By the way, I never liked how they handled Loren. I think you should've destroyed the gangs first and kill Loren last. Him killing Johnny gives the player great motivation to get him yet he dies before any of the smaller gang leaders and doesn't even get a face to face confrontation or final dialogue.

Correction for those who don't know Hitman and chop shop aren't gone from saints row 3 they're actually in the saints book tab of your phone along with challenges so if you're thinking of a way to spend burn some time is about 150 things for you to do in that section of the phone I'm not sure on the exact number

SR3 was the turning point where SR wasn't only a GTA clone. I actually liked more SR3 over GTA4 (although I played few years after). SR4 was almost better... But you know... The ending and the slap to the face called Gat out of Hell just killed the series.

If you level the boss to the max you arr nearly invincible. You can't die through fire, explosions, bullets, fall damage, being hit by cars and so on. One of the very few ways to die then is to be run over by a tank while you are in a car.

The reason they killed johnny is because THQ wanted a character to die, the head writer steve jaros said in one of the recent voliton stream on twitch they had the story all planned out and johnny was gonna be kidnapped by the syndicate but THQ wanted johnny to die and it was done off screen so it wouldn't be so sad. That decision really is upsetting to me i grew up playing sr1 when i was 6 back in 2006.

The PC port got an update that fixed it recently. it use to be a complete mess. Even worse you use to need a third party installer just to set it up on a 64-bit OS, cause the setup/installer utility was 16 bit. It also fixed various other things.

I'm rather conflicted towards this game. I've read about it on Game Informer and I was pretty intrigued by it. While I didn't like it as much as the second game, it does have its fun moments (such as jumping out of a plane and partaking in a gunfight while free falling) and I liked Viola Dewytner's outfit (I have a thing for leather miniskirts and boots).

I played this before Saints Row 2, and I loved 2 a lot more. Recently I came to the conclusion that Saints Row 2 feels like a beta for a sequel for Saints Row: The Third. EDIT: Thinking about it, finishing the game shows how much you care about it: I beat SR3, because I wasn't as interested in the game as a whole, I didn't beat 2 because I was entertained enough by it that I ended up just playing the open world. 4 I also didn't finish because the open world gameplay is fun enough as well, but in a different way.

The Third was my first Saints Row cause of the very high amount silliness of gameplay and story. I was kinda hoping they put the serious tone from the Saints Row 2 tho cause it differs a lot from GTA itself. For the sake of the future of Saints Row balance it out with the humors from the Third. Definitely enhance the version of choices you make for the story gives you replayabilty a couple of times over.

It might be because SRTT is what introduced me to the series (& Saints Row IV is my favourite of the bunch), but I can just NOT get on with 1 or 2, no matter how hard I try.

SR3 was my first too. I loved it a lot and still play it from time to time. I tried SR2 but just couldn't get into it, I liked the beginning but the activities for me were meh. I haven't revisited it since then so maybe I need to try again. SR4 is a pretty good game but it isn't all that repayable for me. I recently finished it and loved it but that's because I had like a 2 year gap in between my last playthrough. If a SR5 is made I'd love for it to be an alternate story to what happens after 3.

Me too, I keep revisiting the game again and again but i just cant find any enjoyment in it

Maybe because it didn't run that good,so maybe I'll revisit when the patch releases
