Exactly. If you don't have to take casualties fighting, why do it?

Napoleon was a great Artillery commander. So getting 3 hits makes sense.

Move Calvary to take the north west city then after concentrating in front of Wellington, you can swing Calvary to Wellingtons rear while forward attacking with the less than Grand Arm’e

Excellent rolling, Matt! An impressive knock out blow! Take Ghent immediately and force the British to have to win the game actively, rather than sitting on their hands on the ground of their choosing and forcing you to try and beat them.

This has been fascinating to watch. Thank you. The only change I would suggest is to allow the Allies to discuss strategy during the night turn without the French player able to hear, and to have the opponents not see the actual move of the blocks, ie. the opposite side turn your back while they are moved so it it is a little less obvious when the cavalry move. You could even have a GM keep some moves secret. ie. infantry only sees what is adjacent and the better scouting cavalry sees movement two moves away. That would take a second map or a little note keeping with the GM. If you do hidden movement then British and Prussian movement should also be hidden from each other. This game system would also be cool for the Gettysburg campaign.

A glorious role!!! The dice were cast and the were cast well. The good thing is that the game remains open with this result and anything is possible.

In my assessment, the best option is to do what Wellington least wants, and I surmise the Duke seeks to defend on ground of his choosing. A grand strategic flanking manoeuvre to Ghent will play to the French strength (speed) and force the British to react in an impromptu fashion.

A battle is very random, the wise thing is to dash around with cavalry. If you can win without fighting, that will always be the right answer

Take Ghent, the British will have to divert troops to protect Ghent. The remainder of the army should gather to apply pressure on Brussles to hold as many British there as possible. To win the Campign by manoeuvre rather than Battle is the aim, just like at Ulm in 1805.

Clearly the answer is taking Ghent and forcing Wellington off his bum!

I say both - concentrate to threaten the British and send a cav unit or 2 towards ghent - I think you've got 6 moves left so it should be doable. Oh and roll more 1's (that's rarely sound advice but for this game it is!). Good Luck and viva la france!

Also, I agree. Take Ghent to force Wellington's hand.

Strike where the enemy is weakest. In this case, Ghent. For there is no enemy there. And you have the advantage in mobility. But as of now it appears that Napoleon is of more of a mind to crush Wellington at Waterloo. It will make for quite a spectacle. But I fear that it will maul the French army to such an extent that it may not be able to complete its objectives.

As fun as it would be to watch, the best decision is to emulate Napolean and make it a campaign of maneuver. Dash to Ghent and force the British to make a decision, fall back to a battleground not of their choosing, or have them advance from their defensive position to engage Napoleon

Ghent even with some cavalry. Force Wellington to chase and split his forces. Can draw off hus cav and the Emperor may be able to exploit his jnfantry

I feel Ben's pain, perhaps he should have listened to the British advice. As to the French next move Flank and onwards to Ghent.

Enjoying everything about this (especially the strategic moves) but the actual battles with miniatures is a bit unsatisfying. Not saying big crunchy rules are needed but at least something with more depth the a couple moves and a couple rolls. Regardless I’m enjoying this series. Keep up the good work.

I don't think it necessarily needs more depth, but the fact that a unit is destroyed if it loses *one* dice roll is not my taste. It means the player can't be as flexible or really react.

Wellington did best when defending on ground of his chooing. Taking Ghent would force him to attack on ground Napoleon can choose.

I believe the Alllies players here were not aggressive enough and allowed their forces to become far too dispersed. Concentration of force would have been better in my opinion. But great game nonetheless!

Disappointingly the British were far to passive, offered no support to the Prussians or threat to the French.
