It's sad how delusional she is that she thinks he would just blindly accept a jar from a woman who is a suspect in a current murder he's investigating. She is also the widow of a man he put behind bars for murder. The same husband died behind bars and he knows that she was seeing a doctor for her mental well-being. Of course, he's gonna turn around and take it to the boys down at the lab.

I like the window on the 70s that some of these provide. Good eg is the ransom for a dead man, featuring Lee Grant, where Colombo asked “how do you do it. Work for a woman.? Columbo’s pretty enlightened but it’s interesting how abnormal this situation seemed to screenwriters at the time😂 And there’s a pretty unsavoury episode the “nightlife” one where the perp is clearly in a very abusive relationship, accidentally kills her partner and gets no allowances at all from the system. And this one was early 90s! However on the whole falk’s genius shines through in _every_ episode that’s why I love it. And the first one was a Spielberg direction I think.

Poisoning has been a woman's choice of murdering going back to the 19th century and before. They were not strong enough to kill a man outright using brute force, but they could slip poison into his food. Columbo already knew or at least strongly suspected she intended to kill himself and his wife, so he had the marmalade tested for poison at the police lab as soon as she gave it to him. So she basically incriminated herself, even if she had never spoken a single word to Columbo.

That part with the psychiatrist who can't tell Columbo anything is fascinating. The Tarasoff case that established the Duty to Warn if a mental health provider believes their client to be an acute danger to someone didn't happen until 1976; this episode was shot in the early 70's, which was before the ability/duty to talk to the police and potential victim was legally established.

The last seasons of Columbo were not very good. It was obvious that instead of big name villains like Ray Milland, John Cassavetes, Vera Miles, Janet Leigh or Leonard Nimoy etc., the producers started using small name villains, they were cheaper, you see. They cut corners elsewhere almost making the programs boring and unwatchable. My favorite episode is the one where Donald Pleasence, wine conoisseur, kills to stop his company from being sold from underneath him. Second favorite, John Cassavetes, orchestra conductor, loses a lapel flower during the murder. Episode also featured Myrna Loy. Last couple of years, cheap cheap cheap.......

The shows went for 60 minutes but they had to condense them to under 10 minutes by taking out unnecessary and repetitive content because the old TVs couldn’t hold anything over 10 minutes. The mondo Columbus shows are very short always less than 10 minutes because of the primitive mondo TVs they had back then. The old old old TVs could not hold more than 10 minutes of show even without nipnagel or shnibuts rhetoric as they used CRT Catholic Ray Tubs technology Motorola involvement and non Dylan Mulvaney CLT or Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. Crackhead Barney oversees the southerly wing of the flies we fight as fly fighters. Caitin Clark scores best against them. The fly fighters tried Dylan Mulvaney to shorten the shows advertising and tried to produce a non racist TV set with Motorola involvement with flypaper control and Dylan Mulvaney CEO. The historically correct Crackhead Barney and a prominent associate of Dylan Mulvaney declined comment at that time but was very involved. So was Cat Clark on our side. Transgander influencer Dylan Mulvaney abandoned by Bud Lights and faced too much bullying and transphobia. Crackhead Barney is her team member in Chicago. The proof is in the pudding. It’s all part of the non racist Al Qawama discovering process
