Hi Scott, thats one cool boat, it's better to be safe than sorry.

It will take some work, but I think it will be worth it. Thanks for watching.

Make a post that mounts in the rudder gundeons high enough to place the mast at an angle to pin mast bottom to the mast step. Do shrouds first, can be left attached. Take the halyard forward to the pulpit and tie mast in position. Attach headstay and release halyard. Post for holding mast while trailering can be made adjustable for stepping the mast. Check out another mast step that locks mast base into the step.

Probably would have been better to attach the side stays and then come from the stern with the mast. That way you could bolt the mast before you raised it. You then could just lift it and then attach the fore stay. Still a bit tricky with just one person, but at least the mast would have been bolted dow.

We're in the same boat as you, seriously! Just got an old CP16 that we will have to re-foam and replace the stringers; maybe even the mast step since the previous owner modified it in a way that compromised the seal over the hatch. Looking forward to using your channel a lot..!

Its taking some time. I'm going to separate the deck from the hull in November and begin the hard work. Keep in touch. Thanks for watching.

As fascinating as watching your progress is, I find myself asking at several different points, "wouldn't it be easier to just buy a new boat...?" 🤪 KIDDING!! (well, maybe not totally...) I salute your patience, amigo!!

Much quicker to buy a better boat but I like bringing old boats back to life. Thanks for watching.

10 times easier lifting from the stern with the bolt already in place.

As the owner of a Com-Pac 16, I'm always looking for ways to make it easier to raise the mast. This is NOT one of them! Seriously? Over the bow? Attaching the forestay outside of the pulpit at first? Bodily lifting the entire mast while standing on the foredeck? Somehow leaving the mast standing unsupported, then attaching the shrouds? I admire your persistence, but this was painful to watch!

Hi Larry, it was a comical attempt. I have since gotten ride of the Compac and picked up a new project to start in the fall. Thanks for watching.

I’m sure you’ve already got this comment, but you’re totally wrong in stepping the mast. First off do not detach the side stays, then move the mast toward the stern of the boat and attach the mast to the mast seat. With the forestay unattached, lift the mast into position by walking forward on the boat. Lastly, secure the forestay into the connection point on the bow.
