Enjoyed your video. As a suggestion for future content, I'd like to see a video of your return to dock/retrieval and loading when it's windy like it was in today's video. That's the hardest part of the process for me and maybe you've got some tips.

Thanks for the suggestion I launched in a fairly protected area this trip so wind wasn’t an issue But the shallow ramp was! I had to get wet to launch and retrieve the boat and the water was cold I usually launch at a steeper ramp but it was closed that day Thanks for watching!

Ditto.

@@theboatnik1328which ramp did you use that was shallower? And why do you like the steeper ramps better? We're newbies and info like this would be helpful for our learning.
@theboatnik13288 ай бұрын
@ScrappyTam you have to back further in to launch at a shallower angle ramp to get back to deep enough water A steeper ramp usually means deeper water sooner so the boat can float off the trailer without backing in so far
@theboatnik13288 ай бұрын
Seaforth is shallower angle than vista point

Nice boat handling! I've been out in Jordan in a blow on my compac. Wish I had another reef point and roller furling jib would be ideal. The compac would be then be happy in a blow!

A second reef point would be nice even if rarely needed Thanks for watching

I wanted to see you with three jib up in 26 mph winds. How many reefs did you put in the main? She is a cutie for sure.

Single reefed main I sailed for a while with the jib up but the gusts were a bit too much with the water being so cold Thanks for watching

Nice little sail with some brisk conditions!!! Still have ice in some areas up here. She seemed to hold up well.

I didn’t push it as the water is very cold here still Thankfully we rarely have ice and it was a mild sunny day It was fun

Love the program. How would you make the hatch water proof?
@theboatnik13282 ай бұрын
It is pretty much waterproof as designed and built As long as fasteners, etc still are bedded good

Enjoyed this, great job! Question: Do you have a video on how you have your job downhaul rigged? It looks like it worked well in those winds.
@theboatnik13289 ай бұрын
I don’t think so but it is just a small line (1/8 or 3/16) tied off to head of sail, then run loose down the luff alternating to either side of hanks. This helps it kind of flake the sail. I have a small turning block at base to direct the line aft to where I can cleat it off on cabin top or wherever is convenient This is a cheap and very good simple way to stay off the foredeck I like hank on sails because I have 3 different headsails so it is easy to swap out I do use a stopper just above the turnbuckle on the forestay to keep the bottom hank from jamming up on the swage fitting This can be just a plastic bottle cap with a hole drilled center, then split it 1/2 way to get over forestay Thanks for watching

Which reef point did you use? I have similar wind conditions just down the road in the Pamlico, and am a fellow Compac 16 owner.
@theboatnik13285 ай бұрын
I only have one reef in the main on that boat so 1st reef I sail a lot on the lower Neuse river below New Bern down around Oriental Love sailing down that way

Would you use a furling jib if you had it in thise conditions?
@theboatnik13285 ай бұрын
Yes It would give you more options I have a small furler that would work on my Com-Pac 16 but I haven’t decided yet if I want to mod the jib sail to fit it Also a second reef in the main would be nice for sailing in stronger winds I have been out in 20 knots with higher gusts with jib and reefed main with no issues Even with full main and jib Consistent wind speed and direction really helps to get more comfortable with it

Downhaul on the jib?

Yes Cheap and works really well

I heard the ComPac 16 gets bow heavy with the jib up in windy conditions. How does it handle under main alone?
@theboatnik13283 ай бұрын
It handles fine with just main in strong wind Jib up/ bow heavy is not a problem I have encountered and I have sailed in 30 knots with jib only I could maybe see this happening if you were overloaded in the bow Ideally i would have a double reef main and a storm jib for over 25 or so Sometimes it is easy to forget that this is a very small boat
