This is the first I think I've seen of the Presidential Brigade, but these guys performed a near flawless assault. Very impressive considering the amount of challenges present in this defense.

For an army to go and assault a multilayered defences, with thousands upon thousands of mines everywhere, without an air support, makes it 100 times more difficult, and those individuals asking dumb questions like: "wheres the counter offensive" in my opinion are simply stupid.

That's why I try to see the "counter offensive" as a summer campaign that will extend untill the autumn rain. It's not like WW2, where an offensive on a similar area as Bakhmut could be done by a million soldiers with a thousands of tanks/SPGs/halftracks/trucks.

You nailed it. People don't seem to understand that each tree line is another assault to prepare, recon, assess, plan, execute... They're not going randomly towards Russian positions, they need to pause, do all the above, fill the ranks with replacement for WIA/KIA, and then do it again. Can the same unit do it every single day? I seriously doubt it. They would become reckless or exhausted and fail. So it needs to be step by step, with rotations, their having to use many more units, and of course it's slow.
@BzhToine
@BzhToine Жыл бұрын
@@liberteus And instead of wasting entire units of new soldiers they can incorporate recruits alongside veterans to learn and share experience to have the entire army more and more trained and experimented. And when we see this kinf of videos, you can be sure that is just a montage of many point of views that are used to debrief and finely analyse their assault in order to improve their tactics and coordination. Material that may be also used to teach the new brigades to improve their survivability and efficiency when they'll be send to the frontline. It's also needed to taken in account that fog of war at strategic level is nearly inexistant. As an analyst I did hear on a podcast said, if OSINT sources are able to have a pretty good idea of the order of battle of the two sides, military intelligence on both sides should be able to have a report on each unit breakfeasts. It's nearly impossible to gather troops and material close enougth to the frontline to achieve some sort of strategic surpise to attack in force and achieve a breakthrough. It would only result on massive artillery/missile strikes leading to a desorganisation of this unit. They would be at this point, unable to perform efficiently offensive tasks. Or the defender would simply have time to move it's reserve to match the ones of tha attacker.

So many things in one video. First its the first time, for me at least, where I see how well the drone operator directs the guys in real time. He saw exactly where the enemy was. Second the tactic was very different from previous videos. They basically walked in to contact, closed in, suppressed and had another team actually assault from another direction. Where as previously we saw a lot of vehicle dismount at one edge and then do a linear trench clearing. The NCO was constantly on top. Also first time I saw contact line reporting and objective reporting. And at the end the one surviving soldier was treated incredibly humanely and even friendly. After that amount of violence that shift of emotions was incredible to see. Very pro guys.

@@realshompa You say as if Donetsk and Luhansk regions are separate countries that Ukraine attacked. No matter what Russia says, it was Russian soldiers who attacked the eastern territory of Ukraine, it was known from the very beginning. Ukraine only defended its territories. Ukrainians did not fight with civilians, they fought with Russian soldiers on this territory. Why is Zelensky here? At the time when Russia attacked Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea, there was no president in Ukraine, because the previous president, the Russian puppet Yanukovych, fled to Russia. Then President Poroshenko tried to freeze the conflict at the Minsk negotiations. Then President Zelenskyi did everything to resolve the conflict peacefully. There was a large exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. The hostilities have almost completely stopped. But such peaceful initiatives of Zelenskyi were regarded by Russia as weakness. Therefore, they started the war in full force. Now that Ukraine is already winning, Russia wants peace talks, but on the condition that Ukraine gives up its territories

@@realshompaLuhansk and Donetsk were invaded by russia in 2014. Immediately new pro russian government was established in both regions, russian military forces with local separatists were given task to “defend” Donbas (basically eastern Ukraine) from Ukraine, NATO and USA. At the same time Crimea was annexed with the same procedure. Ukraine did not bomb its own cities and people, that’s bullsh*t. @@joshsmithward8848 Yeah, I have wondered about that myself. The Ukrainian and Polish media give some of the best coverage to the war, and, a while ago, I saw a Ukrainian interview with soldiers on the Eastern front, where a 25 year old said he was the youngest in his battlion. One of them said he thought 35 might be the ideal age to recruit, due to maturity and processing capabilities. He felt a 20 year old didn't have as good a chance of survival. There was a 61 year old man loading artillvery shells. (I should be so lucky). Some of this is because, when Russia invaded they had to spin up an army and a good number of these had been fighting since the 2014/5 incursions. But, also these guys were definitely true believers giving it their all to protect their families, their land and their country. Like you, I don't see as many of these timeless old iron men any more in interviews, and they did say they had lost a few comrades. It may be however, that, some have simply cycled out of service. Per general Petraeus, it is certainly true that Ukraine has excelled at spinning up and training an army. As they bring in new, young recruits the number of old iron horses gets watered down. I hope that's they main reason we dont see them as much. I've also heard more than one soldier say thatcvery large numbers of men, often young, not all trained, gave their lives to push the Russians away from Kyiv. When people came ridiculously close to take out a tank with a javelin, get a home- sourced drone going, it was one of them. The main thing is that this man's presence there is coaching them, tuning their instincts, helping them build their decision tree. My guess is that, psychologically, he has a role similar to a Sergeant. If you've ever had the experience of having to fight your own bodily fear, you know these guys are brave. They are able to grit their teeth, bring it over the line, and snap into "go" mode.

I'm afraid the fact that there are so many older soldiers does not bode well for the ability of Ukraine to field new forces to backfill their dead and wounded. Historically, when a nation is placing older men into direct battle it means they are running out of men. Look at the German army in the last 6 months of WW2 as an example.

So this is not the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade we see taking back Bahkmut. This is another expert, seasoned assault group. This looks like it might be an assault on the Southern front, given the terrain, which would explain the reference to Crimea. That means they're taking established positions, though some of the defenders may not be quite as experienced as the Russians around Bahkmut or Kremmina. This looks like an action that's moving from windbreak (row of trees) to windbreak, which would be similar to the flanking assaults they used recently to come around from the east to take Urozhaine. That would explain the reference to not wanting to assault across 800 meters. So this is really different than piling out of a troop carrier like we saw/see taking back the perimeter around Bahkmut. These guys appear to be night walking up and digging a trench nearby, essentially in enemy territory. That sounds like a mad scramble to get dug in. Better than trying to walk across an open field, but wow, that sounds like tough duty. How fast can a platoon dig and hide a trench? There's often about a 5-day cycle to each new advance, and these types of preparations -and planning - might explain that. I think the AFU artillery pre-barrage they briefly mention is also key. We see that in assaults around Bakhmut as well. They mention the surprise advantage of swinging around from the back, but I'll bet it also protects them from a lot of mines. Russians in the south are dug in and not expecting to advance. Mines all over, especially in front of the trenches. In fact I'm wondering if the trench with stairs wasnt part of the Russian defense. No mess in that one though. This is nearing the first line of dug in lines. When they finally chip through the other two they'll be able to swing around and use that same effect to pin the Russians up against their own mine fields and trenches. I think it's important to realize this truly is what modern warfare is. The use of small store bought drones has changed the battlefield forever. It changed recon capabilities which creates a cascade effect throughout the different areas of warfare. Makes targeting with artillery easier. You can drop bombs from them. You don't need air superiority to run recon flights, they're even using these drones to detect landmines. They use drones with thermal because when the sun I up it heats up the hull of a landmine so when the sun goes down, they sparkle like stars against the cold ground. It's crazy. America needs swarms of these drones with a way to data link them.
@jessehachey2732
@jessehachey2732 Жыл бұрын
Yea, drone detection of mines like this is heavily limited by weather, season, depth they’ve been buried and method (Russians are known to stack multiple mines, making them very difficult to detect). Not saying it isn’t a cool use of technology, but mines buried under snow won’t absorb heat from the sun and be detected that way….

From what I observe, before the war, this brigade was an elite formation protecting the president (generally the capital, official buildings, but it was part of the army, not the national guard), but practically from the beginning of a full-scale war, it has been fighting on the most difficult sections of the front, although not on the most "popular" ones. It is one of the most elite Ukrainian brigades, but it is rarely exposed in the media

From Finnish normal conscript standpoint of view this was interesting to see and there's something I 100% expected. The counter offensive of Ukraine troops, it's easy to see the good morale of taking back what's yours. Worth noting that Russian surrendered. Odds from motherland defensive side for that is quite much different, like you hear from the older man talking. Also saying Ukranian taking counter offensive it's crucial to remember how large that area is and even more what you see in the video multiple times. So much plain fields where it's easy to get shelled or go into landmine filled locations. Then cause of the strongpoints here and there, which make flanking likely quite easy, it must be really hard to proceed without causing massive casualties or unnecessary risks. Shit this was very stressful to even watch remembering simultaneusly my training from back in the days to assault trenched fortifications. What I was bit surprised to see was lack of smoke covering from any side. Obviously impossible to determine wind direction, but there likely could've been one side shield. Also tear gas could've made wonders there closing in. I can only imagine what stress it could cause when attacker is very close and suddenly between everything you need to put mask on to increase fatigue dramatically, let alone decrease your vision, while thinking that attackers are likely rushing towards you already equipped and prepared 😬 I salute you Ukranian soldiers. You're truly bad asses 🤝

Yes they will.. this is the first war using modern technology you can buy at a local store to fight wars. Some of them even build their own drones and bombs! This is modern warfare mixed with the old fashioned trench warfare that brutalized both sides in WW1 and WW2. Imagine fighting in these trenches with no drones or radars?! 24:55. "Tolia", who you can hear says that he is from the Altai Mountains in Mongolia, is likely to be a man of limited means and opportunities, often perceived as someone "from the wrong side of the tracks". He may have chosen the nickname “Tolia," short for Anatoli, to downplay his Mongolian roots. Undoubtedly, he has experienced significant oppression and encountered racist attitudes. Prejudice in connection with places like Mongolia is a significant issue when it comes to former Soviets, their sympathizers, and those they empowered. Between 1924 and 1992, Mongolia was officially governed by a regime aligned with the Eastern Bloc. It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that “Tolia” volunteered to help the Ukranians by telling them everything he knew. Soviet ideas about collectivization caused major problems with agriculture in Mongolia. The Soviets also confiscated huge numbers of Mongolian horses, including for military use such as in World War 2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_People%27s_Republic

Interestingly enough, "минус" (minus) has nothing to do with comms confirmation. It's kinda similar to the English "down" (as in, "enemy down"). The same goes for "200". "300" means "wounded"; "500" means "deserter". That's why you might hear them say "двохсотий" ("200") or "трьохсотий" ("300"). Слава Україні!
