"Cognitohazard" is Foundation terminology for a classically Lovecraftian threat - an SCP that has a hazardous effect if you see, hear, or otherwise cogitate its nature. For example, the Anti-Life Equation from the DC Universe - any human-level intelligence who sees or hears the Anti-Life Equation immediately has their free will obliterated. This is the reason for the hesitancy - they're trained to deal with supernatural phenomenon where simply LOOKING at something will kill you, brainwash you, or have some other crippling effect. Moving slowly means that if the member in front becomes a casualty, they KNOW that there is something anomalous there. This is also why all of their exploitation is on-site. If they simply bagged everything and delivered it to the nearest Foundation site, there would be a high risk of introducing an uncontained anomoly in a location where numerous OTHER anomalies are already stored and being studied, which could possibly lead to a Multiple Containment Breach (which will almost ALWAYS be a mass casualty event). This task force MUST gather all of their information on site, and report it back to the researchers so they can determine an effective method of containment.

This sums it all up very well. A lot of the things the Foundation deals with can't easily be quantified even when they have a good idea of what it can do; and during initial contact it's especially dangerous because they won't have any idea what they're dealing with beyond what are often odd rumors. Reading through a lot of SCPs, there seem to be the very broad categories of MTFs: 1) The scout/intel groups like this one, who are generalists in terms of how the Foundation works. They seem to be the ones that know enough to enter an unknown situation, get enough intelligence to develop further action plans, and ideally protect themselves in case things go south. 2) Hazard-specific MTFs, who deal with certain broad classes of SCPs that share common traits even if they are specifically different. When they mentioned cognitohazards, there may be MTFs whose sole purpose is to assess the threats and limits of anomalies that alter their environment or people just by interacting with them; and by extension they'll have training and equipment to assist with that. 3) Anomaly-specific MTFs whose sole purpose is to support containment or neutralization of certain SCPs. Usually this means keeping people away from it, responding with appropriate force if the SCP is becoming dangerous to the world at large, or just carrying out certain maintenance of the SCP beyond standard research The guys in category 1 probably have the riskiest business because until they get enough intel for Foundation research to determine what's going on, they don't know if they're dealing with something benign but odd, a predatory entity, reality-bending forces, or worse.

My head cannon is that Tactic in overlord was better because they were expecting some human resistance. But here they clearly evacuated whole street, and know there is something wrong with the house, so they send recon. It's probably cognitohazard(unnatural things that sometimes can kill you just by looking at it) so they move slowly so if first in formation die they know danger is probably close.

I understand it was for the cinematic shot but tactically it was shocking to see it in at least 5 different scenes. Even worse when you walk close to each other in an open field when the woods are just right next to you. The reason they don't do it off site is because you don't know was "contaminated" for lack of a better word. SCPs don't adhere to any logic other than their own and thus something as simple as a pencil can cause reality warping effects and make the situation worse. This team's job was to investigate the area, figure out what the hell is going on and see if they can secure and contain the SCP or if more specialized Task Forces are required.

The thing is that a lot of what you're criticizing doesn't really apply because of two facts: They are not military, you could consider them pseudo-military or private military contractors; but they are specifically not part of any country's military (anymore, they likely were before they were recruited for this) and thus are not beholden to rules and gear requirements of any country's military. Secondly, they are not expecting to fight *people* - at least not directly. One guy mentioned he thought that the situation was a cognitohazard they were getting into, which means attacks or effects that kill or debilitate through ideas or concepts. Like reading a word or seeing an image that instantly cause an aneurysm in the viewer. Or a song that makes your body mutate into a tree when you listen to it. The fact that they aren't sure what exactly is waiting for them in this house is also why they don't have a proper plan and are playing it by ear. This is all, after all, set in a universe where you have a chance to literally just have your body dissolved and you die instantly because an angry monster looked at you wrong. There is a real chance that the second they enter that house they will be moved to another reality and hunted for sport by a slug monster that is impervious to bullets. Normal tactics do not always apply in the SCP universe. The shit these people have the fight is honestly terrifying.

Good point, but let's be honest some people like to watch others die in short films am I wrong or right? First, Let's be rational it's not about the personnel it's about the safety of humanity and to just fling guns and body armor into a dangerous area is just foolish it doesn't matter if it can read minds that's what it can do if SCP cared they would've done something involving fewer people and less equipment. They would possibly have to recover if the "mobile taskforce" failed their mission and the gear is still present but this was probably cause this SCP can kill anyone it presumes unworthy that is our first issue at hand, not the risk of "reading the wrong bible" and they shouldn't be staying inside the house for too long anyway. Finally, hell they should've just thrown in a D-class and called it a night.

Basic info is that there are very few HUMAN enemies they deal with. Mostly entities that are either straight up non human or humanoid in nature. The weapons and tactics that they use can only do so much. It's only when they use special MTF (mobile task force) units that things go kinda ok for the foundation.

Yeah, if there's anomalous nonsense that's also protected by armed cultists and other conventional threats, they'll either send in a task force specialized for more conventional warfare or let it slip to the GOC if they don't find it to be worth the trouble, which is the UN-backed sledgehammer to the Foundation's scalpel.

Things you can confer about the anomaly which some people don't pick up on - 20:05 when the team first enters the anomalous extension of the house, there is seemingly a glitchy tv announcement talking about a raid on a house. This is clearly referring to our MTF team raiding THIS house. The 'previous attackers two days ago' was likely a previous team or maybe a regular police or SWAT raid on the house, since the voice emphasizes how this team doesn't seem to have a connection to the previous team. Once our team starts getting taken out and attacked and they meet another spooky computer/ghost conversation at 23:40, they mention "I heard there was a gas leak", giving away that the anomaly was able to eavesdrop on the team back in the van at the start of the video, where THEY talk about using a gas leak as a coverup. It then has the gall to say that "Everything is fine, There is nobody here", suggesting that it could be aware of what our team is attempting to do, and is not fazed by them at all.

A lot of these comments have been really specific. The goal of this is to more broadly inform. As the SCP foundation primarily focuses on the containment and research of paranormal. The only thing the group is certain of it that it is not just a person. This is a complete different situation. This crew is specifically hand picked to seek quick intelligence gathering to inform later securement crews. On the base level, this crew is designed to deal with everything from a man with a futuristic gun, to reporting basic info on a being of God like powers. The possibilities are endless and they are unable to prepare for everything. The group first secures it for more obvious or basic facts, then goes to data collection. They sweep for documents in closets and cabinets as well as working on computers. The rest is mainly self evident, but it explains the major goal of the group.

It's abnormal for a psychiatrist to have a profile of somebody living with him in his house that isn't on record. As for the tactical problems, SCP Mobile Task Forces are a mishmash: sometimes they're elite military special forces, and sometimes they're whoever the Foundation can get together quick enough to matter. In this case, at least one of the soldiers was apparently CIA instead of military, so it's entirely possible that only one or two are actually soldiers, and the rest come from a diverse set of fields to better handle an unknown phenomenon, where abstract thinking might be more useful than tactical ability. As for why they're dressed like spooky spec-ops soldiers, it's probably better to look like some secret military unit conducting a raid than a SWAT team people might actually expect an answer about.

26:50 First time I think I can say this for one of your videos but I completely disagree! As they mentioned taking anomalous things like that off-site could have major implications, especially if its reality warping like it appeared to be. There have been SCPs in the past where its much more feasable and safe to just build an entire facility *around* the anomaly rather than risk trying to move it and mess things up further. Like for any real world thing you'd be right but for SCP stuff they would legitimately rather lose a team like this doing on-site recon than move something and have it be harder to contain.

You've already been told a lot of stuff, so I'll try to say something different: •SCPs don't have any limit on them, even the sun is an SCP. They can be humanoids, lovecraftian, white line appliances, celestial bodies, a piece of paper, an abstract thought. •Most people that deal with SCPs are considered expendable, be it because they're privately contracted paramilitary elements (like in this movie), or just D-class people hired as lemmings. •Both these points justify these elements not having set-in-stone tactics or even deep knowledge of what to do or look for. •Given the nature of these threats, they're fought in complete silence, almost every SCP Op is a black op. •If for some reason some normal random person caught them, they have amnesics to delete their memory, kinda like men in black. •Given the recon nature of this squad, and points 1, 3 and 4, they sometimes aren't even told specifically what they're doing. In this case they were probably told they were going to an empty house to locate SCP related intel.

The overdubbing is probably just because they didn't have good equipment for capturing sound and didn't have control over sound in the area they were filming (so people could still drive by the house). Once they get inside the house I think it works pretty well with everyone in darkness, especially since they have a good sound designer that's keeping the atmosphere appropriately spooky. Obviously having your entire cast wearing masks helps since you don't have to lip sync.

As you said, they have to adapt tactics to the situation. They go in quietly because A) it's a rural neighborhood with civilians around and they don't want to disturb anyone to keep it a secret and B) the very nature of the anomaly is unknown, possibly something that can harm simply by perceiving it, so they don't want to disturb whatever's around and if they make contact to hopefully minimize exposure. They don't take the intel off site because the intel itself could be the anomaly, and moving it could spread its effects or otherwise cause an unpredictable reaction. So they partially evacuate as a team stays behind to conduct potentially dangerous business while taking precautions such as extracting the data in a hopefully safe manner. As we see, the computer is related to the anomaly, and when the guy shuts it down, presumably something bad happens to him. So of course, when you have no way to predict the consequences, extreme caution is generally the recommended approach, especially when dealing with potentially, or likely confirmed in this case, dangerous anomalies.

1) They have amnestics, to erase the memories of people who see too much, so them going in with full gear isn't really an issue. 2) You are thinking of their tactics as though their threats were human. The windows aren't really a concern, as they aren't worried about taking gunfire (which is a vanishingly uncommon cause of death for an SCP agent); similarly, flooding into an area is often a way to just die, as there are many SCPs where running into an area is absolutely lethal, and there is nothing that can be surprised anyway (eg. if you run into an area with The Flesh That Hates, you're just dead). 3) Most of the time, the MTF agents aren't dealing with a concrete "enemy." There are warps in reality, cursed objects, things that can drive you insane by simply seeing them, machines that will kill people who threaten them in horrible ways, and invisible threats. There are specific teams to go after human threats, like cults and other societies, and then there are teams like this that serve a more exploratory role. At the beginning, they aren't covering because they aren't expecting a corporeal threat like a human assailant trying to kill them--they think that the two people living there are civilians. 4) When the MTF team says that they want to head out, the researchers will listen in most cases. They have thousands of "disposable" D-Class personnel, mostly convicted murderers and rapists who were sent away for life or "executed" on paper. They get sent into this type of situation with a camera, a light, and possibly a gun or some supplies, while a MTF waits outside. If they D-class dies, they just adjust using the livestream, then send in the next D-class. Then, when they think they know what the threat is, they send in the MTF. Finally, the masks are kinda necessary because there are A LOT of things that you really don't want to see your face.

3:47 360 security is always a necessary but so is secrecy of the Foundation. Speed is the name of the game in this opening breach for several reasons in universe. To be unseen by possible passerby’s which was hinted at with the gas leak cover, unknown world alternating effects is also possible so to have the least amount of exposure they do have to be quick. There is an SCP of a cube that left inside a room or a house will spawn a copy of the interior of the building in almost exact mirror copy within the external dimensions of the building. Essentially doubling the size of the building without actually constructing anything. This SCP will continue to do this every hour. So the retrieval of this SCP took several months and thousands of personnel searching for it and even then they found it by accident when someone fell through several floors of mile line cordons and connecting rooms. Hundreds were lost and never to be seen again.

TOC not asking questions about "Possibly KIA" wouldn't necessarily be out of the ordinary due to the nature of the foundation's work. Reading some of the SCP files and watching the vids would make it seem like "Possibly KIA" would be a regular occurrence. Team member sucked into a book, collapsed and suddenly shiny, frozen for any number of reasons, growing roots into the floor. The lore makes it seem like the foundation is pretty callous regarding the loss of any of their personnel below foundation leadership, however they would also likely be ready to take a MTF member's word for it until debrief, so them not asking questions didn't feel too out of the ordinary. Have you seen the short film 096? Also a good SCP short film.

There is also alternative universe of SCP foundation working together with RNF Foundation. That universe is kinda interesting because RNF and SCP foundation found dead researcher's Backroom files and SCP and RNF somehow developed inter dimensional door to go inside Backroom and that was really terrible mistake. I read the files and even watched Korean guy animated it. Very Very creepy you can ever imagine. There is reason why Mobile Task Forces are so expensive. SCP and RNF only hires ex-military who can handle unidentifiable fears alost possible to break you down emotionally. They don't look for best fighters, They hire ex-military or special force who won’t panic and able to do communication with Mission control or HQ or something... Also someone that is smart and has sense how to think when they standoff against creepy unidentified entities. So most of Mobile task force units can speak more than 3 languages. There are also known South Korean dude who was ex-special force 707 division? Using hacking device and so smart could even speaks Russian and English perfectly. And Some scientist are from Japan and German. Those guys are super expensive. So whenever the scientist get in trouble, they sacrifice whole division units to save one scientist. And MTF units are ready to die for saving one scientist. Sorry for my bad English this is best I can write in English. The reason why Im writting this down, too many Vets are complaining of MTF's behaving actions and way use comms. But once you read the protocal of SCP foundation, Vets might understand why they behaved so irresponsible. MTF is not being irresponsibility just being cautious not to be absorbed by unknown evemy force. There were Ex-special force Vets reaction getting so upset why leaving digitised KIA member? In SCP foundation, when someone gets infected or absorbed like that, never touch or try to rescue until they get confirmations from HQ or Mission control. I know this well becuase Im a nerd xD I dont like playing video games but I love reading files of SCP Foundation. It might be seems to be imbecile to regular people but they are making embecile choice for the greater picture. First time when I was reading SCP foundation files, I was upset as well. WTF are they doing???? why????? and later when I finished reading files and instructions I understood. They only deal kind of those entities so most of the cases, even though SCP got lot of research data and informations of unidentified entities , they always not ready. Because each SCP-entity got different psysics of law applies totally different law of this universe that is why securing and containing is so important job to keep civilians safe. Basic steps are would be intel > recon > report > return to HQ> scientists make plans > send higher level MTF forces > dont do anything with personal judgments (most important rule) > over commuicate with HQ > Neutralize threats > scure the entity> report and wait for confirmations from High table from HQ. There are varying protocols even difficult for me to memorise. Even Scientist personnels cant memorise them all. I might be the one of the few nerd in South Korea knowing details of SCP universe becuase there no files written in Korean. However I read those file in Russian. Anyhow even though MTF are special secret forces but I would like to believe even regular? SWAT officers or marines can also be brave and will know what to do if they are in that situation. Becuase SWAT officers and VETS marines these people and you are not civilain. You guys are trained. Nerd like me can not be compared with people like you. So what Im trying to say is, Even none MTF military people like you can also handle that horror with remaing calm and communication with HQ. If regular nerds like me, radio chatter would be like screaming and repeating words over and over not giving clarify informations at all. Just like rookie officer shots fired!!! and not telling his 10-20 (location). If there is SCP foundation, you can also work for them. They will welcome people like you who servered. SO precious to them. And Valuable. Im sure you heard about Half life black mesa. Those facility hiring only ex-military as security officers. Very expensive as well. Each one of them has combat experienced thanks for reading this even though its gibberish english.

The only thing I've always wondered about is why they didn't disable the street lamps closest to the dismount point in the beginning? I'm sure the Foundation has agents embedded with the company that forsees maintanence on those lights. They could have disabled them during the day and so when they launch this raid at night, its already taken care of. It would provide better cover and well, no one is going to think too much of a non functioning street lamp in a US suburb. One going out as a van pulls up on the other hand, would raise some eyebrows.

I feel like some of you people are getting a little upset that he's critiquing at all. Which I get, we all have a series or universe which we're massive fans over, and we can often act like fan boys when someone starts to unravel it and point things out that are obvious plotholes or redundancies. Thats not the point of this channel though. The point of the channel is not to go "oh look how stupid and inconsistent this is, the SCP universe sucks!" The point of the channel is to 1) provide a new perspective from a military officer who has been engaged in combat operations before and 2) provide thoughtful commentary and create a thinkpiece to set up new avenues of conversation. This is not one of those channels where they "react" to videos and provide no input or thoughtful commentary but rather just occasionally make stupid faces and over-exaggerated reactions to things in the video, then at the end tell you how "cRaZy and CoOl" it was. If you want a reaction channel that just strokes off the universe and fanboys over how "cool" it is, there are already plenty of those on YT. Just be a little more open to lines of thought other than your own, like the Warhammer 40k Fandom was when he first started this channel. We didn't give a damn he was critiquing things in a universe we love, we already know how absurd 40k is, but his willingness to want to learn more allowed us to do something we love, teach him about and share our hobby.

One flaw of the "take it off site" idea is that there is no telling what could go sideways the moment they try and remove that laptop from the house. It's liable to make things even worse. This is an anomaly they're dealing with. Anything is on the table, standard procedure is VERY much to play it as safe as possible and only engage or disturb when attacked or engaged first.

They're thing is that they have to get in, get as much information as possible, and contain whatever it is, because they don't know WHAT it is. Congruent to that, if someone is even potentially KIA, there is no thought to confirming if they're alive or dead, rescuing them, or even recovering the body. If they're going into an area, the thing they're going after is more important than all of their lives.

They deal with a wider varriety of situations in the scp universe, more than likely this target does not require a quick and agressive containment, so they would have already secured the block before sending in the "red shirts" the van is probably only to make the transportation to the site less supsicius. they might have gotten a hint that this will not be something agressive, but they are being sloppy, the site could have civilians atleast. That being said they are pretty much required to do on site research as entering a site pretty much makes you a contamination risk so as much work will have to be done each shift.

When an area that has an scp that effect a certain vicinity they always if not evacuate the area of any civilians, with some sort of excuses to get them to leave. Most likely the area has zero people in this neighborhood , after the foundations got info of this Cognitohazard. Allowing the MTF team to move in open area with out the need of someone seeing them. A side note depending on the MTF unit each one are different, some that are made to deal with specific type of scp and other dealing with local police, military, navy and even wild life, one example MTF Beta-4 deal with local fauna-based anomalies. Some MTF units deal with humanoid scp, other deal with more of the lovecraft scp that brake are laws of reality, even Cognitohazard that are more of the sound base. Don’t know if it’s part of the lore, don’t really fallow, but mostly I don’t think any containment unit is rather “valuable”. I think most of the soldiers act like mercenary contractors, but are contracted with the foundation, therefore hush hush, if you leave you may be a liability. So I guess most of these squads are literally expendable. The intel they have might elevate that but mostly they send these soldiers, who might be experienced military, but basically are not the most valuable in a stretch, to their deaths on any mission. I could be wrong and anyone please correct me on this, but I think most of these dishes are trained by experience when it comes to handling SCPs and that’s about the extent when it comes to who’s the better squad, which happens to be the one who has survived more containment jobs but are just as likely to be left behind or eliminated and covered up later.
