Whether you like Reg or not (and I fucking love his stuff) this podcast is interrogating, insightful and so openly honest. What kind of Bellend thumbs down this?

I had looked forward to seeing Reginald in Glasgow march 2017, sadly he hadn't written a set yet. The support act was excellent, then Reg began his set by admitting it was unfinished and blamed family changes-note this was not a cheap ticket, one of the dearer shows at this comedy fest. We got about 20min of stuff that needed lots of work mixed in with 20min of his older material-while he drank a significant amount of brown liquid. Despite being disappointed my gf was very keen for a photo. We waited at stage door for about 30min to give him the presents we had brought him, which he was happy to take(chocolate and prepared for use 'oregano'). We asked for a pic and he said "No, ive had a bad day and I don't want any reminders". She said the pic wouldn't be posted online, just kept for herself, but he said "No, I don't want anyone having a reminder of how I look today...it doesn't matter that its dark". Then he got into the waiting car. I agree comedians aren't in any way required to do pics, the ticket=show and nothing more, but to take the two gifts and not do a pic is plain selfish, no two ways about it. He could have refused the gifts and said he was in a rush. Ive given things many other comedians (James Acaster got box of orange matchmakers from me at his book reading in Nov) and the unspoken deal is obvious. Reg was being a selfish ass that night, not just to me, he owed the whole audience an apology for the awful set.

I'm going to come to Reg's defence in one regard here, which is to say that comics often feel obliged to take gifts when presented with them. If I were to give a comic something post-show as a fan I certainly wouldn't expect that the comic then owed me a picture or any of their time. There is no unspoken deal; a gift is either freely given, or it's an attempt to indebt the comic in some way.

ComComPod I see where you are coming from but only the chocolates were intended a gift, Reg asked if I had oregano(I look the type) and I obliged him, I wasn't clear on that in first message, I think it mates a difference to my friend asking him for a pic. Also he still did a poor, barely written show while consuming lots of brown liquid,that's not what we paid for. I'll take your point into account in general at future shows,thanks for taking the time to share your view and thanks for doing the podcast in general.

that was sound logic he told you. he was doing YOU a favor by making sure you dont remember him as a great comedian on that bad day while looking like shit. It may have been selfish and self absorbed but your lack of empathy here is also just as wrong.
