Brother Halvorson, your lessons are my Sunday specials. As an old person, I am up early, so can usually listen to the first episode, then after church, I get in the second one. The lessons of late on Paul's letters have really opened my mind to the important scriptures for our time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your gift of teaching.

Our good Brother Jared….once again From your gifted teachings ….I now feel that know Paul in a much more personal way. In fact he has become a new hero in the faith to me. Fearing nothing, and loving all….with his example of faith and works….I am blessed again with a renewed desire to do good today. The scriptures have become so treasured to me now…as my understanding has been enlarged in your Unshaken classroom. Thank you Jared…my prayers are with you and your family always😇❤️. David

We love your insights and beautiful testifying. I need to amuse myself because after 7 years of French ( 60 years ago) and never getting to use it anymore, Jacob’s “adieu” really means to me “God be with you ‘til we meet again” or at least that what Joseph meant it to convey 200 years ago. “Dieu” is still “God” in French, but I think “ adieu” is passé. In any case I think “adieu” was a lovely choice for Jacob’s farewell and certainly Paul’s “My love be with you in Christ Jesus” is likewise beautiful.

Read a quote today from J Ruben Clark that I found comforting. It said his personal belief is we will receive the fullest reward possible within the law for every good deed we have done. And for ever evil act he believes we will receive the least consequence possible taking into account the law of grace and mercy. That helps me to know that the judgement will be add merciful and charitable as the Savior can possibly make it for each of us.

On Sunday we lost a loved one only middle aged in a freak accident, it has been tough, but this video has been so well timed. I know the Lord is there! And that He loves us all. I pray for you and your family Bro Hal, these videos are saving many from being deceived. I cannot thank you enough for your sacrifice, you truly exemplify a servant of the Lord and you are a great example to me personally. May the Lord be with you and bless. Death has walked with me through out my life and when he has seemed close enough to touch he has pulled away and many times to my disappointment. When he finally comes he will be welcomed as a friend that has come not to take life but as one here to give rest. Every person that I know that has passed with one exception has found rest in death and at the final stages begged for it. With the hope we posses this is a sad event because of missing moments with the person but what a glorious hope awaits that we can see each other again and share our stories with them. Live a life worthy of the telling.

Not knowing what the prevailing Corinthian view was on reincarnation, I wonder if Paul’s comment was to combat the idea of reincarnation when he talked about seeds, and each one getting its own body.

Re: baptisms for the dead. To me that just represents another instance of the plain and precious truths of the gospel that were removed from scriptures by ignorant and/or wicked men. And as for questioning the resurrection, what about all the religions of Africa and elsewhere in which they call on the spirits of their ancestors for assistance in this world? That speaks to a belief in life beyond the grave. Of course, it's very likely that the saints in Corinth had little or no knowledge of those beliefs.

I don't believe in the (a) resurection at all, yet I have no fear for death whatsoever. It's a part of life that will come to us all. I accept that as is, without reservation. It is exactly this knowledge that motivates me to give my best, to do all I can, to make this world a better place exactly BECAUSE there is no 2nd chances or alternatives, no redoing nore fixing later. This is it! Better make it count! Instead of imagining how scary your life would be without an after life (an useless excersise to me), imaging how wonderful and joyful your life would be getting up every morning, exactly BECAUSE it could be your last!

Brother/Sister Professor Palkas, it is easy to, from the comfort of a non-war torn society of relative social peace and economic stability and filled with an abundance of creature comforts to declare this and that philosophy, however, at the end of the day, such philosophies don't answer the great questions of life or explain the so-called tragedies and injustices of life and will only sustain you in so-called good times and so-called just times. We are eternal spirits on a journey of eternal progression that chose to follow Christ to experience hard things to facilitate further growth. We recognize that as eternal spirits in a mortal shell that every second we are allowed to continue in this realm is a blessing and we strive to make it count. Each second is a precious opportunity for us to abide in Christ to continue in our eternal progression and to help a few if not many do the same. Doing so provides true joy in this life and prepares us to continue in our eternal progression for true joy in the life to come. Further, this understanding and perspective helps to see that all circumstances of this life allow for true joy. No injustice, no war, no poverty, no abuse, no disease, no tragedy, etc of any kind can keep us from the true joy, the abundant life, that Christ offers us. Not even death. As we strive to follow Christ through the covenant path, all things will work for our ultimate good and growth and joy and allow us to help others come to discover the same.

@@DaremoDaremo You lost me here. Your whole text reads like one big paradox (well done), where you might not even realize it. It's exactly in times of peace and abundance that you can contemplate the meaning of life and all that. If you have to flee from your home, if you are wondering what you will be eating this evening, if abuse is your daily fate, the last thing on your mind is the meaning of life and afterlife. It's finding shelter, an escape and food, not what you're saying. Furthermore, why should there be "justice"? Because you feel there should be? Because you can't imagine without? Because you don't want it to be otherwise? You can't change reality to your own preferences. You CAN ignore facts and reality and accept an alternative reality, just to appease you. No, really, imagine there is no justice at all after this? Wouldn't it be all the more motivation to leave this a better place? In fact, when there would be a "just" afterlife, why bother with justice at all while here on earth right? I mean, there's always the next one. Life is short here on earth, I think we can both agree on that. And while here on earth, you try to find meaning and some higher purpose of life, where I just accept as-is and try to live a purposeful life. Now I ask you, who's life would be more fulfilling?
@DaremoDaremo

@@professorpalkas4007 Brother/Sister Professor Palkas, my point is that your proposed paradigm doesn’t work in all circumstances while the paradigm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does. Whether focusing on just this life or also including the next life. The covenant path with Christ provides true joy in all circumstances in this life and prepares for a continuation thereof in the next. In your paradigm, we are just several octillion atoms among the 10 to the 82nd atoms in the known universe of 2 trillion galaxies. The universe might decide to scratch an itch and we will all be less than an afterthought, in your paradigm that is. Therefore, there would be no motivation to do anything. Live, don’t live. All the same. The physical universe is dispassionate about such things. However, in the paradigm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, come what may. It doesn’t matter. We are all still eternal beings on a path of true joy with Christ. In your paradigm, there is only a tentative purpose as long as the universe doesn’t scratch an itch and only if someone else’s purpose doesn’t take your purpose away. In the paradigm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints there is purpose no matter what, and in every second of the day, and in every circumstance, even in poverty, even in sickness, even in unfair situations. No one can ever take that purpose away from you. No matter what man or universe does, the purpose is still there.

Professor and bro Daremo, it seems you both have found reason to truly enjoy life as you understand it, though your understanding varies dramatically. You need not believe in God (which I do) to accept the idea that "men are that they might have joy." You both seem to have found that. Good for you both :-)

Doesn't mainstream Christianity believe we will be resurrected and rewarded according to our choice to either believe in Christ or not? So if our choices play a role, then a believer who lives unrighteously must be rewarded differently than one who lives righteously, no? It is inconsistent to believe the choice to choose Christ cancels out all choices thereafter! And this doesn't even take into consideration all the unbelievers who live righteously, and those who've never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Clearly, God will deal with each of us based on our individual circumstances and understandings and choices. Thus, a universal resurrection with varying degrees of glory! The only other options are either to save none of us or to save all of us regardless of these things.

Brother Halverson, what is the possibility of you connecting with my kid's dad who has given up all belief in the church? I'm wondering if you could email to each other and maybe help him through his faith crisis. He was raised in the church, went on a mission, we were married in the temple, and then divorced. He has turned anti Mormon?
@disciplesofjesuschrist2026
@disciplesofjesuschrist2026 Жыл бұрын
although your pronouncement is taken, there is no such thing as "anti Mormon", unless they are against the man Mormon or his writings, but rather they are anti truth, for those who deny the doctrine of Christ as revealed in these last days run contrary to truth. You will notice that these same individuals would find difficulty in opposition to some of biblical teachings as taught by Christ for it is confusing unto them. Pray and fast for them that the Spirit will bring them further light where they are veiled in darkness. Judge not but continue in compassion in the hope that the former Light will rekindle. Your prayers will be as smoke ascending into Heaven, and the Appointed Ones will act on the minds of others unbeknownst to you to act upon your prayers of faith and humility

Are you not aware that there is no growth in the grave? (Joseph Smith) Are you not aware that we pick up the exact same body that was laid in the grave? Are not aware that the young are resurrected young? The older flesh is resurrected in the older flesh? Even down to our scars? This is a major issue in the church. Restored to its perfect frame EVENTUALLY.
@DaremoDaremo
@DaremoDaremo Жыл бұрын
Sister LaRae Parry, I believe the full quote by President Joseph Fielding Smith is: “There is no reason for any person to be concerned as to the appearance of individuals in the resurrection. Death is a purifying process as far as the body is concerned. We have reason to believe that the appearance of old age will disappear and the body will be restored with the full vigor of manhood and womanhood. Children will arise as children, for there is no growth in the grave. Children will continue to grow until they reach the full stature of their spirits. Anything contrary to this would be inconsistent. When our bodies are restored, they will appear to be in the full vigor of manhood and womanhood, for the condition of physical weakness will all be left behind in the grave” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, Vol.4, p.185).

That is my understanding as well, but not an official doctrine, per se. We are resurrected and then MADE perfect. We don't have an exact time-line of how that happens in every case. But, as always, I could be wrong.
