One of the best things I have done after receiving light concerning personal scripture study, studying with you, or receiving answers to questions from Heavenly Father is, instead of allowing the content feelings and satisfaction of having learned something new through revelation, which I had often times done, I ask, is there more. One will learn how eager Father is to enlighten your understanding. I've found this experience directly correlates to the heed and diligence I've given to previous instruction and knowledge.

@@irokruok Wow! What good insight and counsel!
@xrpreacher6000Ай бұрын
Absolutely! I 100% agree. This has been happening to me in the same exact way of late. There is an extremely direct correlation with how much additional light and knowledge I receive to what I am willing to do with the last bit of light received. I've noticed that nearly every time I learn something new through personal revelation, I'm given a test to use it properly. The more focused and eager I am in looking forward to those tests/trials and then having the faith and wisdom to simply use the revealed light and knowledge almost always leads me to more personal revelation. The hardest part for me is to remain humble in knowing for certain that I'm receiving truth in ways that are specific and personal to me and my understanding. I feel so blessed to know that Heavenly Father is speaking to me directly that I tend to forget that it's His intention for me to bless the lives of others, and neither brag about it (out loud or silently), or keep it to myself and think "I've got enough". I also notice that I ALWAYS lose connection to Heavenly Father if I forget or neglect the test and glory in myself about it. Difficult, but I'm working on it. 🙌🏼

Brother Halverson - just recently I went to Las Vegas to see a Donny Osmond concert, yes you read it right. That is my story, the Osmonds brought the gospel into my life and I will forever be thankful to them. Anyway, as my friend and I were walking through Cesars Palace to get to the Harras casino, it suddenly hit me. This was just like the great and spacious building. In my mind, the great and spacious building is something so beautiful (like Cesars Palace) that it entices people to go to it. I don't believe it is dark and ugly. It has to be something that really pulls people away from the Gospel of Christ in a subtle and enticing way. Anyway, it made sense to me then . . . it gave me a different perspective. I love your lessons, thank you for your inspired insight.

Just a thought I had this morning. We know that Nephi knelt in prayer hoping the sign would come to pass, but based upon my experience in church leadership positions and my wife's support I am confident Nephi's wife prayed just as earnestly as did Nephi . In some instances, I found my wife's prayers were more poignant than my own.

What I love about 3 Nephi 6:14 is the phrase describing some of the Lamanites, that: "they were firm, and steadfast, and immovable, willing with all diligence to keep the commandments of the Lord." because this is exactly what Father Lehi said to Lemuel in 1st Nephi 2:10 "And he also spake unto Lemuel: O that thou mightest be like unto this valley, firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord!" Father Lehi's blessing of Laman and Lemuel's children that they would not just automatically be cut off because of the unrighteousness of their parents extended through so many generations!

I think it’s interesting that in the old world, Jerusalem, the sign of Christ’s birth was the new star, but in the new world where the Nephites were, the sign was at night with no darkness, so each sign unique but also similar as they both added light, while The Light of the World was born.

I had this thought around 1:04 when you're talking about "hemming them in" and the people being of deprived of things: a couple weeks ago my mom reminded me of a speculation President Joseph F. Smith spoke about years ago regarding the church possibly having sufficient for their needs and not asking for donations anymore. When she said it the thought of it made me cringe...it made me realize I haven't had enough time to be a consistent obedient tithe payer..it made me want to be better, I expressed my hope & prayer that having the FREEDOM and ability to Pay Tithing WON'T be taken away from me anytime soon. Listening just now it made me think.. What if for some reason, b/c of political changes, we are DEPRIVED of the FREEDOM of paying tithing or worse yet.. attending the temple, or even going to church (as we saw happen not to long ago)? The thought makes me shiver. If this happened it would be a HUGE trial to many peoples faith and would 100% have us relying on the Holy Ghost. Thank you for your insight Brother Halverson.. thanks for helping me think outside the box, expand my understanding and search my heart (and the scriptures) to increase my faith.

We must be so careful not to be dependent upon the media for our source of truth about our current events, rather we must be close to the Spirit for discernment, because they would love nothing more than for us to be "servants unto them," dependant upon them "to teach us the word, and keep us in ignorance... all the days of our lives!"

Some years ago I realised that it would probably have been Pesach (Passover), or maybe Rosh Hashannah (the head of their year, or New Year), or such a predictable date that the unbelievers chose as the time to exterminate the believers because they would gather to celebrate. I spent two years teaching at a Jewish school and came to love their love of their festivals. A lot of the significant events mentioned, such as this, would surely have coincided with the Nephites being gathered for Passover. The Romans would probably have arranged the census at the time of the Passover, appropriate for the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. The crucifixion occurred during the Passover, and the Saviour appearing to the Nephites would probably have occurred while they were gathered for their celebration of Passover. Samuel the Lamanite could well have been teaching while people were gathered for Passover, making it five years to this significant Passover. Jesus was declared that He was born on 6 April, so that would then have been Pesach. The Nephites would have gathered to celebrate the Angel of death passing over and this morning I realised that the unbelievers wanted to play as angels of death themselves, but then the believers would see another pass-over taking place such that the threats of death would not be carried out... In the Passover, the Jews remember their deliverance from Egypt - the angel of death visited those homes that did not have the blood daubed on the door posts, and slew the firstborn in each household, including Pharoah's son. The Nephites were threatened that they would be killed if the sign did not come that would signify that Jesus had been born in Jerusalem across the sea. The Nephites would gather to honour Pesach. This would be a convenient time for the unbelieving bullies to simply kill all who gathered without having to search them out 🤔 So, the Nephites would be saved from the bullies who wanted to kill them, symbolic of the children of Israel being saved from the angel of death.
@suebrown3194Ай бұрын
I've always thought it ironic that Giddianhi invites the Nephites to come to his side to enjoy the "prosperity" of the robbers when everything they have has been stolen from the Nephites. Lachoneus and Gidgiddoni don't get enough acknowledgment and praise in general by Latter-day Saints IMHO.

The part in the video where you’re talking about Christs birth potentially being moved up because in the americas the people will be put to death but in Jerusalem they are doing okay. That's definitely got context for the second coming. But the tables will be flipped. We will be fine in one sense, possibly lulled by carnal security, while those in Jerusalem will have an army at their gates and the city's defenses will have fallen. That's just fascinating how accurate the scriptures are.

Thanks you for addressing 3 Nephi 2: 14-15 which many scholars on KZbin skip over. I get why they would, because it is a controversial scripture. I think you explained the distinctiveness between the curse and the skin colour, not unlike what happened to Cain. He too was cursed (spiritual separation from God) as was the land for his sake (Genesis 4: 11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.). The Lord placed a mark on him for his protection, Genesis 4: 15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him). So it is with the Lamanites (2 Nephi 5:21). There is a curse which is spiritual separation from God and a mark to distinguish them from the believers. Of course, as the Lamanites were converted throughout the BoM, the curse is lifted from them, and apparently, in this case (whether figuratively or not), their skin became white.
@ruthcapell691Ай бұрын
I would like to suggest an alternative to the “darkened skin” scriptures. In my life I have people who have distanced themselves from the gospel. As they have, they seem darker. I think it is the “light of Christ” is no longer with them.
