My son is 6 and watched with me for 20 minutes because he didn't want to go to bed, after a while he asked what the thumbs up and thumbs down were. We gave you a like. Then H. says Mom, why did people give him a thumbs down? "I don't know I" I said. And he says "Maybe they don't believe in Jesus. I like this video I wish we could give it 3 thumbs up."

Brother Halverson, I know finally understand the discrepancy of what the Lord was commanding at Independence and what the saints were doing. The Lord would protect those that "became temples unto themselves" rather than fear the "guns that were pointed at them to get out". Talk about courage and faith and totally trusting in the Lord. This is the real test of discipleship! Thank you for your insight, it is very much appreciated.

You are the most amazing gospel teacher I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Thank you so much for all the time you spend to give all of us inspiration. You have given me so much perspective that it amazes me. I will never be the same person again. Please CONTINUE to teach and inspire all of us. You are doing so much good, and I am so very grateful. I refer back to your previous lessons to remind me again and to recapture the feelings I had. You are giving me such a priceless treasure and I can never thank you enough. I have also been thinking that it would be wonderful if you could eventually find time to teach us 1st & 2nd Nephi. Then, we could have the whole Book of Mormon? 💝🙏😇. May God continue to bless and keep you.

I went from reading a chapter of Hugh Nibley’s ‘Approaching Zion’ to listening to this, and I just have to pause the video at times, and just take it all in. I just have to bow my head and repent for choosing to walk in telestial starlight when I could be walking in noon-day sunlight, if I would just listen and follow and act. Thank you for all you put into your study and preparation to help us be taught by the Spirit.

How fun to find a kindred spirit reading Approaching Zion! I've been reading since April, it's so meaty, I have to take a little at a time but what a meal! It has opened my eyes to how we are condemned as a whole people to our adapting the Mahan School of Economics into our society. We will have to be willing to sacrifice all that we have for Zion. It has helped me prepare. You too?

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Although I can’t watch it all in one sitting, I really appreciate how thorough you are. I have to tell you, I’ve been known to speed. Sometimes it’s just because I’m paying more attention to other things than my speedometer, but one day as I was speeding along, I was thinking about the articles of faith. I suddenly realized that believing in obeying the law of the land didn’t just mean the laws I thought were important. It also meant obeying the speed limit - even when I could get away with it. My character is made by my choices even when no one is looking. It totally changed how I viewed speed limits after that. It also changed my motivation as to why I try not to speed now.

Some of the temple analogies (bodies vs buildings) got me to thinking. Imagine having done well materially and living in a really nice home with all the trimmings. Suppose you are invited by some long lost friends to come by their new home. You make the trip and when you get there, you see a really old run down two room cabin and they are just giddy with enthusiasm about it. Turns out they have not been anywhere else in decades and just would not know what a really nice house looks like. So, sometimes we think we are doing well, but when we arrogantly ask God to take a look at our 'house', we might be disappointed if He does not see something to get excited about. It is easy to neglect some aspects of our physical/spiritual/mental growth. Taking care of this 'temple' of the soul is very precision oriented chain of events, especially when being guided by the Spirit. When Nephi calls the great and spacious building 'strange', maybe its because he sees a people who don't know what beautiful looks like. To them its a party, and because their eyes are accustomed to darkness, they are not even aware of how different their world could be.

Once again, another wonderful discussion and revelation of the scriptures. Thank you, Brother Halverson!!! I love learning from your insights, perspective and inspiration. Thank you a bazillion times over for sharing!!! It's so much fun to watch the wheels turn in your head!!! God bless you and your family! On a more serious note...I know you try not to be too serious but there is a time and place... do you know how hard it is to feel like you are ever good enough or can be good enough, when you know you can't be? ...except through our Savior's sacrifice... When your heart has been broken and your spirit has become contrite, you realize with a brutal clarity that you never can be good enough; no amount of effort or sacrifice you can give will ever be enough. This crystal clarity is what submits the heart to Him. This profound comprehension creates that humility and meekness that turn us to Him. I am so profoundly aware of how much I need Him. I love our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is my Savior and friend. I love Him with all that I am and ever have hope to become! Thank you for being such an amazing teacher for Him!

As you said, "Fasting and mourning" I realized that so many of them, and so many of us, and so many people in the world--EVERYONE at some point mourns the loss of someone to death and yearns to be with them again. The TEMPLE was to provide the peace and answers that they were seeking in their heartbreaking prayers and fasting and it was GRIEVING God that He couldn't provide those answers because they wouldn't build the dang temple!!! Just as the temple stands as a beacon of healing and help for us if we'll just go and meekly ask Him.

I love what you said about being good neighbors, and the kinds of people others would want to live with. Sometimes I wonder if that is enough in our world today. So many people dislike Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of the hard stand on marriage between a man and a woman. It seems to me that in recent years this has become a non-negotiable issue for many people. We can be as kind and decent as possible, but commitment to certain principles of the gospel is viewed as a crime against secular society.

Since these sections deal with the temple so much, I wanted to comment on a video, which is on KZbin, of a presentation given by Bruce Hafen and his wife at the Sep 2020 Interpreter Foundation Conference. According to Bro Hafen, years ago a friend asked him (I'm paraphrasing) "Jesus is the center of the Gospel and the Church, Jesus is the center of the temple, so what is all this stuff about Adam and Eve in the Temple Endowment?" Bro Hafen didn't know either, but in this presentation he discussed how he came to understand over time that the story of Jesus is the story of GIVING the atonement; the temple endowment is about RECEIVING the atonement and exaltation thru it. Gave me a new insight into the temple that I hadn't thought about before. If the Unshaken family isn't taking advantage of Interpreter Foundation, BOM Central, Evidence Central and related websites I would recommend visiting them as part of your study (if you have time after listening to Bro Halverson's great lessons). BTW Bro Halverson, I have learned and pondered more about doctrine since finding your channel than I ever have before. Keep up the great work.

Love your labor here. On "this is the place," I wonder after having read so many Pioneer journals if they finally weren't "the people." and were given a place to succor them. In studying the ascension/descension of Prophet and People in Isaiah I often "theorize" where we are on that pendulum now. The Church corporation was dissolved by the Edmunds Act in 1877 and we didn't incorporate til 1912 again. Operating in a telestial sphere can have some limitations, hence why the Kingdom is so important. I actually loved it a few weeks ago when Holland pointed to dropping accreditation at BYU. Operating in a babel system is limiting. But I understand we have to be in it but not of it. Your thoughts on these principles and theories moving forward will be appreciated. Thanks Brother Halverson. We can obviously influence the world by our symbiotic people to temple and people to prophet and people to the Lord equation. If Joseph would have lived I think it was 4 more years then Zion would have been place and people.(that is my recollection...I don't readily remember the chapter verse now.)

When you talk about the axe being laid at the root, you are using it in a passive tone, as if it is just sitting there waiting, but I believe it is a more active tone. When the scriptures use the word lay, it is active = Lay hold of every good thing, lay the foundation, I lay down my life, lay up fruit to the season. And when you think about the symbolism of trees, the Lord prunes, which strengthens or propagates a good tree. If you cut it down, there is still a stump to cumber the land and allow for inferior succors to grow, but if you lay the axe to the tree below the crown, at the root, then you destroy the tree completely and make room on the ground for something else to grow.

Brother Halverson, your videos (right word?) are pure joy. Please don’t humbly speak of opportunity costs about listening to them. They help me to think clearly and bring up lots of holy and precious ideas, which in the last analysis are far more precious that gold or silver. In trying to help, I may add some constructive thoughts. Like the somewhat odd reality that our modern Temples are not built of cedar and gold, so your analogy about building up one’s life based on that idea falls short. You do jump to grasp at a burst of insight and sometimes get a little bit shaky on some analogies in this way. But, we all are imperfect still. Your scholarship, insight, and humor are glorious. I’d almost say hold onto your weaknesses, as there is a danger you might get translated if you don’t. Thank you so much.

The final judgement is not at death. I do think no one in the Telestial Kingdom will be running around looking for the stuff not in their bags. The ones who care, will be doing that before and will be given the ability to understand how to correct the problem. I don't think anyone wants to feel short changed. I don't think they will... Yes, yes, I know the arguments.... I just want to say that perhaps we should be more careful with our words so we don't guilt trip mothers. They need to know that their children who care where they end up will have every chance to set things right before the final judgment. And everyone of us will be happy, settled with the out come.
@Unshaken
@Unshaken 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. And I'm so sorry if my words made anyone feel guilty or less-than, especially mothers! It's hard to think of any group of people who does more to sew up the bags of those they love, in hopes of helping them get as much joy out of life as possible. Thank you for that reminder.

Why is it harder for lgbt to keep the law of chastity ? Am I missing something here ?
@PainH8er
@PainH8er 2 жыл бұрын
Because it's much easier for a heterosexual to keep the law of chastity because they can have sex in marriage. According to the church's current teachings, gay marriage isn't allowed, so LGBTQ in the church cannot have sex unless they are violating the church's teachings. It's much easier to keep the law of chastity if you can do so while having sexual relations. It's much harder to if you cannot have sexual relations
